At my mom's instructions, I came home after two hours, but I went back there in the morning, with Honey by my side.
Emerie was sitting beside Omega, in the waiting room. I waved to them, and Omega immediately leapt at me with a hug.
"Any updates?" I quietly asked Emerie, to which she shook her head.
"At midnight they allowed me to see them, and..." she shuddered. "Echo's spine took the damage, so he needs to go under surgery, and Hunter and Crosshair...last night, you couldn't even tell they look the same, they were burned so bad. I think the only benefit they all have is that thanks to the armour they wore underneath, no internal organ damage took place. At this point, I don't even know what to do."
"As for the match," Omega quietly added, while I let Emerie collapse onto my shoulder and sob quietly, "the teams have two days to either get back in the match or send a backup team, otherwise they're out of the tournament."
"What? How can they expect burned patients to just...get up and play?" Honey asked indignantly.
"Dunno. The doctors said they might have to stay in here for a week or a day more. They got the medical attention immediately, so it didn't get any worse."
Tech volunteered to stay in Emerie's place and let her know if any other news come, while I took Emerie, Omega and Wrecker to their place on my speeder, Honora driving the speeder.
On the way we crossed the college, and to my immense shock, it was open. I whirled to see my surprise mirrored in Emerie's face.
"Well, we're too late anyways to go there. Let's go home," she sighed, rubbing her eyes. "Would you like to have breakfast with us?"
"No, thank you, we better get back," I said, feeling my headache return. Nodding in understanding, she thanked us as she got off the speeder, helping Omega out of it while Wrecker jumped out.
"Your breakfast is due on us," Wrecker told me, a tired smile on his face.
"And so is a speeder ride," Omega piped before Emerie pulled her inside.
As soon as we returned to the temple, I headed back to my room and fell under the blankets as Honey went to meet Mom for training.
I regretted taking a day off as I felt bored, finding nothing else to do, until it clicked me. Emerie and her siblings must be so tired, and they might not have something to eat at the moment. And if even she got the food somewhere, someone needed to send it to Tech. I busied myself in making the lunch, enjoying the task for the first time ever since I learned cooking, with my Spotify playlist playing in my ears.
As soon as I popped the muffins into the oven, I called Emerie. Omega picked it up.
"Omega Fett speaking," she said in a serious tone, no doubt picking it from her siblings, evidently not recognizing me.
"Hey kid, Zoya here."
"HI ZOYA!"
"Omega, I need you to tell me something honestly. Do you have something to eat at home?"
Omega's embarrassed silence gave me my answer. "Don't worry kid. Just don't tell Emerie I called you, OK?"
"OK." And she cut off the connection.
One of the benefits of being a droid's master's daughter is that you can also command it around. "Hey, C-9DZ, I need a ride. Can you take me to this given address?" I showed my scribbled handwriting on a sheet of paper.
"Why, yes, Miss."
To cut to the chase, Emerie did not make giving the food an easy task. Out of self-honour, she kept politely thanking and denying the food until I asked her to accept it if she considers me her friend. My ride to the hospital was cut short as Tech came in from the inside, having heard Emerie argue with someone at the door.
