At last. The chapter where it all goes downhill from now. This one is relatively shorter, because I wanted to bring the main problem here as quick as I can, because now with college I'm gonna be very inconsistent. So the last chapter being fluff and here being boom.
I took the back seat in the speeder while Tech drove as Hunter crossed his arms behind his back, Omega beside me after a long pleading for him to take her.
"How far away is your home?" Omega asked.
"You mean the Temple or the planet?"
"Your planet."
"A four or five day journey through hyperspace."
"Then we can come visit you any time we want! Right, Hunter?"
I did not hear his response as I contemplated between telling her or not about my relatives.
"You're both second years, right?" I asked, the silence unsettling me.
"Correct," Tech nodded. "We're in the military section."
"Excuse me?"
"The military faculty. Are you aware of our career faculties?"
"Umm...no."
"Ah, yes. When you enter second year, you are given a wide range of choices for careers. We have military, sciences and politics majors, and you choose your optional subjects likewise. You also get sent on missions in your third year on a monthly basis, as practical implementations of what you've learned. Those count in your grade."
"Oh. Does it, like, speed up your process of getting a job?"
"I wouldn't put it like that. It only gives you the experience needed to go into your field of choice, but at the end of third year, you get to sit an examination apart from the college examinations. If you clear those, then you can secure yourself a spot in the field of your choice. The higher the grade, the higher the post."
"Can we choose more than one faculties?"
"Why would you want to?" This time it was Hunter who asked.
"I don't know. Curious, I guess."
"Yes you can, technically, but it will increase your workload drastically." Tech beat his brother to answering me.
"And, what if I don't want any of the careers? What if I want to practice something else, like a sports professional or teaching, or I don't want a job at all?"
"Then you join some other college or institution."
"OK, thank you."
"Can I ask you something?" Omega asked me.
"Yeah of course."
"Do you like sports?"
"Uh, not exactly. I like only one, and it's one from where I come."
"What's its name?"
"Cricket."
"Why'd you name it after a bug?" She wrinkled her nose.
I shrugged. "It's very much similar to Strikeshot. When I come back, I'll teach it to you."
"Then what do you like?"
"I like arts, reading and writing stories. I also like learning."
"Learning what, precisely?"
"Anything I find myself interested in. Languages, history, cultures, currently Coruscant."
