You were already up before the crack of dawn, wasting no time for preparations on your new journey ahead. You stood outside the porch of one of the abandoned houses, mumbling to yourself as you went over everything you'll need. Given your shortage of supplies, there wasn't really much to pack.
The environment around you had not much to offer and you found yourself practically shoving random items you found and whatever you had left into a small makeshift sack. You frowned upon seeing that the sack wasn't even half full.
With no other weapon left, you resorted to carrying a dull blade you found from the chest last night. It wasn't enough for the journey but it'll have to do.
You run your hand through your hair, a new hobby that began to grow on you, as you leaned against the wall. With this much anxiety taking control of you, you barely slept a wink last night. Shutting down any intruding thoughts before bed felt almost impossible to do. What was meant to be your last hours of rest for your body and mind had turned into stressful hours of second guessing and doubting yourself.
The truth was, you were terrified. When you first stepped into these islands, you at least had an idea of what to be afraid of. You were given a clear picture on what dangers were to be expected. But this time, everything just seemed so uncertain, like being tossed into the open sea and being unaware of the dangers lurking beneath its waves.
You had lost so much already in just a short amount of time and you were willing to lose what little sanity you had left all for some stupid dream.
Your heart silently ached in your chest, longing to just abandon it it all and go back to living a normal life. But you knew you could never go back to normal. No, that option was far long gone. What you needed now was answers. An explanation. Understanding. And that's what you were going to get.
You walked over to sit on an empty porch, taking together with you two thin pieces of paper, an empty bottle, a quill and an ink pot.
You began writing everything you could remember about the domain down on paper, just in case. Your brows furrowed in concentration as you tried to recall all the details you could remember from the dream. It would serve as a guide for you. Some kind of map for you to follow.
But you weren't done yet.
You grabbed the next sheet of paper, laying it out flat on your lap and began scribbling down random words you could think up.
It just didn't feel right to embark on a journey without the moral support of your loved ones. Well, at least the thought of their moral support.
You knew the chances of this ever reaching your family was low. It'd probably be drenched and soggy by the time it could even reach them, the message indecipherable. Or worse, it might never even reach them and would be picked up by some random passerby.
Whatever the case may be, you were just glad it was able to give you a sense of comfort before your travel.
Writing to them in a way made you feel as if you were actually talking to them in person. It was like you were in an alternate universe where they were never sent to prison and living their normal happy lives. You described your adventure to them on paper, writing it as if it were a heroic fairytale you just came up with. Still, you were careful to leave out the more important details. Seeing there was still a lot of space left, you decided to settle for adding poetic and symbolic verses. Surely it would be enough to keep them entertained.
