"i remember it all too well"

under the streetlights, the quiet of the small town wrapped around walker like a blanket. he walked slowly along the narrow sidewalk, lost in thought. the echoes of his own footsteps were the only company he had on the path, a path he knew all too well.

months had passed since he had last seen her. the memories of their time together still lingered, floating just out of reach. they had shared so much, their lives intertwined in a dance of laughter and affection. despite the sweetness of their shared moments, something had gone wrong, and now he found himself walking alone, with the emptiness she left behind.

y/n's presence had been like a shining star in his life, illuminating even in the darkest corners. they had met at school, he was the the new kid and y/n was asked to be his guide, they clicked right away; their friendship evolved into something more profound. they were inseparable, their bond deepening with every shared sunrise and whispered secret. they dreamed of a future together. they spoke of adventures yet to be had, of a house filled with laughter and love. each promise they made to each other seemed unbreakable.

but life, as it often does, had other plans. it started with small things—subtle changes in y/n's behavior that walker chose to ignore. she was distracted, her smile would occasionally fade into something more contemplative. at first, he attributed it to stress from work or school. but as time went on, the small cracks in their perfect world began to widen.

——
one evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the sky turned a deep blue, y/n had sat him down. her eyes, usually so full of warmth, were now clouded with an unspoken sorrow. she told him that she needed space, that she was struggling with something she couldn't quite explain. walker had felt his heart drop into his stomach, the weight of her words sinking him into a sea of confusion and fear.

she had tried to be kind, explaining that it wasn't about him, that she still cared deeply. But walker couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal. How could she say she still cared while pulling away? the more he tried to understand, the more distant she seemed.

eventually, she left. the echoes of her laughter, the warmth of her touch, all became memories that haunted him. each place was a reminder of what once was. the café where they had spent countless mornings, the park where they had watched the stars, all felt like cruel reminders of a happiness that had slipped through his fingers.

his friends tried to console him, but their words fell flat. they couldn't understand the depth of his pain, the way his heart felt like it was breaking into a million pieces. he had lost not just a partner but a part of himself. the person he had envisioned spending his life with was now a ghost in his past.

walker carried on with his life, wearing a mask of normality that barely hid within him. he found new routines, new places to go, and even new people to talk to. beneath it all, there was a ache, a sense of something missing. he kept waiting for the day when the memories of y/n would fade, but they remained as vivid as ever.

on this particular evening, walker walked the streets of their old town, a sense of nostalgia mingling in the air. the streetlights flickered overhead, casting long shadows that seemed to stretch endlessly. as he approached a familiar corner, he saw a figure standing there, a woman.

for a moment, his heart leaped with hope, but as he drew closer, he realized it wasn't her. it was a stranger, and yet, there was something familiar about her. she looked up as he got closer, their eyes meeting for a brief moment. walker felt a pang of longing, the kind that comes with recognizing the echoes of a lost love in someone else's face.

he continued walking, his footsteps growing heavier with each step. the world had moved on, and so had he, in a sense. but the ache in his chest was a constant reminder of the love he had lost. as he reached the end of the street, he paused and looked back one last time. the town, now covered in darkness, seemed to hold all his memories within its quiet, unchanging embrace.

walker turned and walked away, the weight of his unspoken regrets and unfulfilled dreams pressing down on him. he knew that some loves are not meant to last forever, that sometimes the stars align only to show us what we can lose. and as he ventured further into the night, he carried with him the bittersweet knowledge that while some things may be gone, they never truly leave us. they linger, like echoes in the dark, reminding us of the beauty and the pain of what once was.
