Night fell quickly, and the female looked up at the sun that was starting to go beyond the horizon, only leaving traces of its presence with the different shades of orange before it settled to a dark red hue that blotched the now darkened sky. Looking at the fire that she had miraculously lit up, she pondered on whether to douse it or not. Well, putting it out would mean that she would be in total darkness and she didn't like the idea. But leaving it on would also give away her location to other people — if there were any — here.

She looked up and hurriedly decided to put out the flame. Now that she was enshrouded in the dark, she couldn't see anything if not for the remaining hint of flame that was still burning up that gave her little vision. The female decided that she couldn't sleep on the grass, and as she didn't know where she was, she didn't want to put herself in danger.

Climbing up the tree was not too much of a hard task, as her muscles remembered how she would agilely move her body up the tree. It felt as though she had done the action before, but she struggled to put the thought aside. While her mind was still struggling, a shattered memory of a young girl climbing up a tree skimmed through her mind's eye making her lose concentration. She fell a reasonable height with a thud and her body ached from her little mistake. She cursed at herself and the gods before she dusted off her body and began to climb again.

Just immediately she was seated comfortably on a branch, she heard the ruffles of tall grasses from a distance. Bracing herself, she kept her breathing shallow and sank into herself as a reflex action, she waited for what she might see. A group of men, whom she had counted to be five, came with torches from behind the tree she had been scouting. Her eyes widened in shock that there were people here also with her, and wanting to call out to them she opened her mouth.

“Someone had been here,” One of them said in a gruff tone, as another man bent low and stuck two fingers into the doused fire — now ash — before he rubbed them together. “And it looks like the person hadn't left not long ago”. He had said.

The remaining three walked around the premises until one of them stopped at a creature's skin. He raised the skin and hollered to the man who bent low before the put-out fire. The two walked up to the man who found the animal's skin and said with a drawl; “Looks like our guest had a pretty nice meal~”. He said, another meaning hidden in his words.

The man who was bent over the ash, supposedly the leader of the group, spread his left arm out as he commanded; “Spread out! Looks like our prey might be around the corner!”.

The female who wanted to shout out to them paused at their strange behavior. She furrowed her brows when she heard what the man had said, and her heart palpitated in fear. She then grew eerily still and folded her legs, when one of them passed by the tree she was benching on. Her pupils shook when the others scouted the area, trying to find her but to no avail.

She felt nauseous from the rapid beating of her chest, and she folded her palms in prayer to whatever gods were listening.

Funny how we curse at the Heavens when things aren't going our way, but pray to them when we need help.
