❝ Huh?! ❞ As I walked past the vacant park, my ear twitched slightly at the sound of a familiar cry and various laughter. I came to a stop, realizing that I couldn't ignore it. I peeked around, trying to figure out where it was coming from. As I got closer, the cries became louder, and that's when I found it.
Well them.
It was a group of 4 boys around my age or perhaps a little older than me, tossing pebbles and other items at a scared kitten. It angered me that such cruelty was a source of entertainment for them. My hands quickly formed fists, though my feet were stuck to the ground. Confrontation was not something that was easy for me to do, but deep down I knew that I had to stop them.
I bit my lip, taking off my backpack and gripping tightly onto the straps as I stomped over to them. I was lucky their backs were facing my direction meaning they would not see me coming. Thankfully, my backpack was loaded up with textbooks. I knew then that I would whack them hard for doing such things.
I swung the bag hard, hitting the two boys who had their hands full of pebbles. They were the main ones that were doing those awful things to that kitten. You know it's a critical hit when they just stumble down to the ground.
The two I didn't touch became startled, snapping their heads in my direction. As for the other two, they rolled around, hands on their backs and groaning in pain.
❝ What is the... ❞ They didn't even get to finish their sentence since I cut them off.
❝ Are you idiots so bored that you have to torture a defenseless animal? ❞ I ask, glaring at them. I was still holding tightly onto the backpack in case one of these morons decided to size me up for a fight. I was ready...
Scared but ready.
Because of the commotion, the kitten managed to run and hide somewhere in the playground, making me sigh in relief. At least now it was out of harm's way. One of the boys who I did not get to hit just lets out a scoff, a malignant grin on his face.
❝ Well... how about we have fun with you instead? ❞ He asked, walking closer to me as I took a step back. I swallowed nervously, keeping my eye contact with him. This was bad. The boys who were on the ground were now getting up and fuming in anger. They want payback for what I did. When he did get too close, I once again swung the backpack with a good amount of force, but this time he caught it and violently yanked it off my hands making me gasp.
Well, now I really am defenseless.
They opened my bag, poured out all my stuff, went through it, and found my wallet. The boys snickered as they opened it and discovered a good amount of money inside.
❝ Apart from that, you all are thieves...? Pathetic. ❞ I mutter the last part, but they are not deaf. They obviously heard what I said. The guy in front of me harshly pushed me down to the ground.
❝ Who's pathetic now? ❞ My heart raced as I felt the sharp sting of fear, causing me to bite the inside of my cheek. I refused to let him see how scared I was. Desperately, I reached for a handful of sand from the playground and flung it directly at his face. He recoiled, bringing his hand up to rub his eyes, letting out a deep growl of anger.
