Chapter 6: Welcome to Heaven

When the hotel shook, Jack jumped up from where she'd been sitting at her desk, racing down the stairs, staff in hand. She looked around, sure they were under attack, until she saw Angel with his friend, Cherri Bomb.
"Angie, ya witch!" Cherri exclaimed. "You been texting me depressin' crud all day! Figured we could tear up crud like old times. It's been freaking forever!" Charlie came walking up behind her and Cherri turned, handing her one of her bombs. "Here, hold this."
Charlie immediately started freaking out, playing hot potato with the bomb. "Ah! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" She continued to toss the bomb back and forth in her hands until Vaggie took it from her.
"Nope, gimme that." She said, tossing the bomb out of the already present hole in the wall. Jack saw the hole and hissed to herself. Alastor was not going to be thrilled with that. The guy had decided to leave the hotel for another one of his excursions that he never told anyone about. Charlie and Vaggie had been preparing all morning for the incoming visit to Heaven.
Angel groaned. "I love seein' ya Cherri, but I'm too tired. I need to pass out." He tried to fall onto the couch, but Cherri caught him and pulled him back up.
"You can sleep when you're double dead! Come on, what you really nee is a recharge! A reinvigoration, a re-"
"Responsible night on the town!" Charlie cut in. "That is a great idea! Hi!" She shook Cherri's hand. "Charlie! That's my wall that you just blew up. It's so nice to meet one of Angel's friends! Agh! He never brings anyone around."
Cherri snorted. "Wonder why."
Charlie, meanwhile, was oblivious to the meaning of Cherri's words. "Yeah, me too. Anyway, Angel and everyone else have been working hard. I think they deserve to have a little fun."
"W-w-wait, they?" Cherri stammered.
Charlie grabbed Jack's arm, pulling her over to Husk and Niffty. Husk looked uncaring, but Niffty was shaking incredibly fast. Zen and Magny looked at Jack from where they were sitting at the bar. "Yeah! Hi, everyone! Angel and his friend are taking you all out for a night of fun and relaxation!"
"Wait, I'm only here for Ange-" Cherri started to object until Charlie handed her a large stack of cash. "Ooh! Never mind! Let's go!"
"Actually, I have things I have to do right now." Jack said. "And places like that aren't really my thing."
"Aw come on, Jack!" Charlie exclaimed. "It'll be fun!" She looked at Cherri. "Make sure they have the best time tonight! Anyway, the portal to Heaven should be opening right about..." A brightly colored portal appeared in front of her, causing Charlie to scream with delight. "Now!" She grabbed Vaggie and threw her into the portal. As she stepped through, she looked back at everyone, waving to them. "Bye!" She then stepped fully through the portal.
"This is not my idea of fun." Jack said, her ears laying flat against her head. Zen put a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, Magny and I will be there too." Zen said. "Just give it a chance. Worse case, you can just leave early."
Magny climbed up onto Jack's head. "Yeah! We'll be there for you!"
Jack gave a small smile and pulled Magny off her head and held her close. "I appreciate that, sweetheart."
That was when Pentious walked by, sipping a drink, which he promptly spit out when he saw Cherri. "Well, if it isn't my arch-nemesis! Have you come to meet your fate in battle, Cherri Bomb?" As he spoke, he wasn't paying attention to what was around him and tripped over Charlie's discarded luggage. Cherri, though, didn't seem too concerned about him.
"Apparently, I'm going out with Angel and I gotta drag your sorry butts along." Cherri said, taking out a piece of gum out and chewing it. Pentious was suddenly very flustered by the suggestion.
"Oh, oh, you and me are going out like for fun? I... I didn't think this would ever happen." Jack could see the panic clear on his face and snickered quietly. Pentious continued to freak out. "What-what do I do? What-what do I wear?"
He grabbed Cherri's shoulder, but it was clear she didn't care for it. She grabbed his claw tightly, almost like she was going to crush it. "Don't freaking touch me." Cherri snapped, walking away, leaving a flustered Pentious blushing red behind her. "Let's get moving, everyone!" Cherri yelled. Jack, Zen, and Husk shared looks as they followed Cherri, Angel, Niffty, Magny and Pentious out the door.
Cherri ended up taking them to one of the loudest clubs in the city and Jack's unease grew even more as Zen and Magny each grabbed a hand. Jack took a deep breath and released their hands as they followed everyone inside.
"Woo!" Cherri cheered. "Isn't this place the freaking best?"
"I'll admit, "Consent" is a good name for this place." Husk said. Jack's red eyes locked on Niffty, who was scuttling around, Pentious also watching her.
"Niffty, dear, what are you doing?" He asked.
"I'm sweeping!" She answered matter of factly, like it was the normal response. "Ugh, look how icky it is in here!"
"That's because we're at a club, dear." Pentious said.
"Oh! I though the hotel looked different!" Niffty exclaimed, giggling.
Jack put her hands over her ears as Pentious went to talk to Cherri. A minute later, she tightened her grip on her ears as the club broke out in cheers at something Pentious had said. A drink was shoved in her hands and she looked up to find Angel in front of her.
"Loosen up there, Jackie." He said, walking back over to Cherri.
Jack held the drink in one hand, her grip on her staff tightening. "I'm just going to go sit over here." She said, sitting on one of the chairs at the bar.
As the night progressed, Angel had managed to convince Jack to have a few more drinks. The ones he gave her were more alcoholic then she was used to but she didn't want to bring everyone's fun down. Zen and Magny stayed close to her, though Jack encouraged them to have fun and not worry about her.
Eventually, the alcohol started getting to her and Jack could feel her ears ringing. As another round was brought over, Niffty, who was clearly drunk, reached for another, only for Angel to take it away from her. "I think you're done, tiny." He said.
"No! Gimme gimme gimme!" Niffty exclaimed.
"Oh, come on!" Cherri groaned. "She can handle a little more!"
"She's like ten pounds soaking wet and- oh crud, where'd she go?" Angel started looking around for the one eyed demon. Jack looked around the room for her, spotting her at another patron's table, which Jack wordlessly pointed out to Angel. Once Angel had scrambled over there, Jack leaned on the bar, putting her hands over her eyes as Magny sat on her lap. Zen put his hands over her ears when said ears flattened against her head.
"How was I convinced this was a good idea?" Jack moaned.
"Charlie can be very convincing." Zen said. Both he and Magny had drunk more then their boss but they also didn't mind going out like this. Jack wasn't necessarily a light weight, she just preferred to not drink the strong stuff too often as it tended to give her a headache.
"Lucky Alastor avoided this." Jack mumbled. That was when all three heard a commotion and saw Angel getting into it with Valentino. Though she wasn't feeling too great, Jack's eyes blazed in fury at the sight of Valentino and she jumped off the chair, letting Zen steady her as she walked over just as Angel started arguing with Valentino.
"You forget who you're talking to?" Valentino said. "I own you, witch,"
Angel groaned as his contract chain appeared on his wrist. "Yeah, you do, in the studio. And you can do whatever you want to me there, just like our deal says. But out here, I get to do what I want. So once again, Back. OFF!"
At the last word, Valentino smacked Angel hard, causing blood to drip from his lip. "Enjoy the rest of your night, witch." Valentino said. "Because I'm going to enjoy making you pay for it tomorrow."
"Freaking jerk." Cherri said. Angel stood up and walked back over to his friends, both he and Jack shooting Valentino furious glares as they walked away.
"Screw it." Angel said. "It was worth it."
Husk put a hand on Angel's back, smiling. "Way to go, kid." Jack heard a yell of pain from Valentino and looked down just as Niffty scuttled past, a piece of Valentino's fur in her hands.
"Good job, Niff." Jack said as Zen grabbed her upper arm when Jack swayed a little. He led Jack back to their group, sitting her down on a chair as Magny climbed into her lap. Cherri grinned up at Angel.
"Did you just call these guys your friends? Thought that was my job." She said.
"There's room for everyone, and ya know... you could come crash with us too." Angel said.
"Okay, look, Angie, I'm glad this hotel is working for you, but you know me. I'm doing just fine! But if you need me, you know where to find me, yeah?" She walked off, finding a guy and leading him away, much to the disappointment of Pentious, who Zen later told Jack had been attempting to get busy with Cherri since they had gotten to the club.
Everyone ended up deciding to go back to the hotel after that. Once they got there, Magny went and grabbed some ice for Jack while all of them sat in the living room. "Good job with Valentino, Angel." Jack said, smiling at Angel, who smiled back.
"Thanks, Jackie." Angel said. "Though I'm definitely going to be paying for it tomorrow."
Suddenly, the portal Charlie and Vaggie had gone through earlier and said girls were flung through, rolling to a stop. As they sat up, Jack spoke. "So, how'd it go?"
"It could've gone better." Vaggie said.
"Better?" Charlie snapped, jumping to her feet. "The extermination is still going to happen, the freaking angels apparently have no idea how a soul gets to Heaven nor do they believe it should happen and on top of that, you are an angel yourself!"
Everyone looked over at Vaggie, who clasped her hands together, looking at her feet. Tears sprung to Charlie's ears as she stormed past everyone, going up to her and Vaggie's room.
At that moment, Alastor appeared, looking around at everyone. "My, my, what sullen faces. What in Hell has occurred here?"
"It's a long story, Al." Jack said, looking over at Vaggie. "Better tell us everything." Vaggie took a deep breath in and began telling about what had happened while she and Charlie were in Heaven.
