Elowen's POV:
I sit on the park bench, wanting to get a fresh breath of air. My hand runs through my hair.
Chatter and giggles of children are heard all over the park. I can't help but smile, thinking I was also a child at this park not too long ago.
My thoughts are interrupted as I hear Mrs. Brown. A kind, lovely woman and a mother of a little two-year-old boy named Timothy, who I babysit.
Mrs. Brown says, "Hi Wenny! How are you?"
I gasp in surprise. "Hello, Mrs. Brown, I'm great. How are you?"
Mrs. Brown says, "Well, I'm glad. I'm great too; I was just wondering if you could watch Tim while I run to the bathroom."
I think for a moment. Well, the bathroom is just across the street; why not?
"Of course I can!" I say smiling.
Mrs. Brown pulls Timothy near me, in front of my legs, as she says, "Thank you so much, Wenny; I'll be right back."
I smile as she speed runs to the bathroom.
"Hi Timmy," I say.
Timothy is a wonderful boy; he's just a very hyper kid. That's why I wasn't sure about watching him.
All of a sudden, Timothy starts sprinting.
I already regret agreeing to watch him.
I start to chase him. As I run, I wonder how a two-year-old could run so fast. "Maybe I'm just out of shape." I think before slamming into what feels like a brick wall.
Before I can fall, the wall catches me.
Wait.
I look up, and I soon see that I didn't run into a wall; I ran into a man. A tall, handsome, fit man.
He stares down at me, a straight face plastered on.
I instantly get butterflies when I look into his eyes.
He has black hair and beautiful eyes. His right eye is green, and his left eye is brown. What is that called? Heterochromia?
I could stare at his face all day. No Elowen. That's weird, plus he's a stranger.
"I'm—I'm so sorry," I say as I genuinely feel bad. That had to hurt. At least a little.
The man grumbles and says, "Watch where you're going."
Wow, he ruined it by opening his mouth.
"Hey, no need to be rude; it was just an accident." I say. I mean, who does this guy think he is?
If men only had one thing in this world, it would be the audacity.
Before he can reply, I remember Timmy and I move around the man as I ran towards him. He's sitting in the grass, playing with his fingers.
I sit next to him. "Timmy, you can't just run off like that; I was worried about you," I say. Timmy giggles before handing me a pile of grass he ripped out from the ground.
I shake my head before laughing with him.
Me and Timmy go to the playground and play for a while.
I think to myself, children are the most genuine and pure human beings on this planet; we do not deserve them.
I love little humans—well, most of them anyway.
That's why I babysit the majority of the children in my neighbourhood. They deserve someone who cares about them, and I care.
Soon after, Mrs. Brown comes up to us and thanks me for watching her son.
Mrs. Brown explains that it took a bit longer than she expected it would because there was a line for the woman's bathroom.
"Was he a good boy?" Mrs. Brown asks as she looks down at Timothy and picks him up.
I come to the conclusion that I won't tell Mrs. Brown about Timothy giving me a hard time today.
I nod and smile. "He was great; have a great rest of your day!" I exclaim.
"Thank you again, Wenny; I'll be calling you soon for a babysitting gig." She says, smiling.
I nod and smile back at her. Timothy is a hand full and a bit of a challenge, but I can handle that.
I decide to go home. As I'm walking, I can't help but think about the man I ran into this afternoon.
Lennox's POV:
I walk into a park, trying to clear my thoughts.
Today I have a day off from work, yet I wish I didn't.
When I'm not working, I'm thinking about things I wish I could just forget.
Work is where I leave all my past decisions and thoughts behind.
The only place other than work that helps me keep a peace of mind is nature.
Not like there's much nature in this park anyway; there's a couple trees, but it's mainly just man-made things.
I turn the corner, and all of a sudden a girl starts running at me; she's quite tiny, but I still brace for impact.
She goes to fall to the ground, but I wrap my arms around her waist and catch her.
She looks up at me.
Woah. She is beautiful.
Her hair is very long and a fiery red, while her brown eyes are big like saucers.
She speaks. My eyes trail down to her plump lips.
Dirty thoughts instantly flood my mind, but I try and brush them off.
"I'm so sorry," she says.
I need to say something fast before this gets really awkward.
"Watch where you're going." Is the thing I spit out?
Fuck. That was harsh. I did not mean that at all.
"Hey, no need to be rude; it was just an accident." The woman says.
I go to apologize, but she starts to run again. I look behind me, and I see she's running after a child.
She looks too young to have a kid, but nowadays I'm not too shocked by the things this generation does.
I hum as I continue my walk the opposite way, minding my own business and trying to forget about the woman that bumped into me.
