Two years into their marriage, Jennie and Lisa had built a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. They had overcome initial challenges and grown closer with each passing day. Jennie often found herself marveling at how far they had come since their unconventional wedding day.

Yet, like any couple, they faced their own set of trials. And on a particularly stressful morning, tensions boiled over.

It started like any other day. Jennie was rushing to get ready for an important meeting at her firm. She glanced at the clock and realized she was running late. Panic set in as she searched for her notes.

“Lisa! Where’s my presentation folder? I’m already late!” Jennie called out, her voice tinged with frustration.

Lisa, who was in the kitchen preparing breakfast, replied, “It’s on the dining table, where you left it last night.”

Jennie stormed into the dining room but couldn’t find the folder. Her irritation grew as she rifled through papers. “No, it’s not here! Why didn’t you put it in my bag like I asked?”

Lisa walked into the room, her brow furrowed. “I’m sure I saw it there, Jennie. Did you check under the newspapers?”

Jennie found the folder buried under a stack of mail and newspapers. She huffed, clutching it tightly. “I’m going to be late because of this!”

Lisa’s patience was wearing thin. “Jennie, I can’t keep track of everything for you. You need to take some responsibility.”

The argument escalated quickly, with Jennie feeling the pressure of her upcoming meeting and Lisa feeling unappreciated. Voices rose, and hurtful words were exchanged.

“You used to work for me! Why can’t you do this simple thing?” Jennie snapped, immediately regretting the words as they left her mouth.

Lisa’s face fell, hurt flashing in her eyes. “Is that how you really see me? As your employee? I thought we were equals, partners.”

Realizing the gravity of her words, Jennie’s anger dissipated, replaced by guilt and sorrow. “Lisa, I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just stressed. I’m sorry.”

But the damage was done. Lisa turned away, her voice breaking. “I’ve tried so hard to be more than just your butler, Jennie. To be your wife, your partner. But it seems like you still see me as the help.”

Tears filled Jennie’s eyes as she reached out to Lisa. “No, Lisa. That’s not true. You mean everything to me. Please, believe me. I was just overwhelmed.”

Lisa shook her head, pain evident on her face. “I need some time, Jennie. Time to think.”

Jennie watched helplessly as Lisa walked out of the room, the weight of her words hanging heavily in the air. She felt a deep ache in her chest, knowing she had hurt the person she loved most.

The rest of the day passed in a blur for Jennie. She managed to get through her meeting, but her mind kept drifting back to the argument. She couldn’t shake the image of Lisa’s hurt expression and the sound of her breaking voice.

When she returned home that evening, the house was quiet. Lisa was in their bedroom, her back turned as she stared out the window. Jennie approached slowly, her heart pounding.

“Lisa,” she began softly. “Can we talk?”
