The days following Taehyung’s unexpected visit passed in a haze of emotions for Jennie and Lisa. They had both said the right words, agreed to work through their issues together, but the underlying tension remained, like a wound that hadn’t quite healed. They moved around each other cautiously, each afraid of reopening old scars.

One evening, a week after Taehyung’s visit, Jennie and Lisa found themselves in the living room, the silence between them thick and uncomfortable. Jennie sat on the couch, absently flipping through a magazine, while Lisa leaned against the kitchen counter, sipping tea and staring into the distance.

The stillness of the night only amplified the unspoken distance between them. Jennie finally set the magazine down, unable to focus, and looked over at Lisa, who seemed lost in her thoughts.

“Lisa,” Jennie began hesitantly, breaking the silence. “We need to talk. Really talk.”

Lisa glanced at her, her expression guarded, but she nodded and walked over to the couch, sitting down beside Jennie. They were close, but not touching, an invisible barrier between them.

“I know things have been tense since... since Taehyung showed up,” Jennie said, struggling to find the right words. “And I know it brought up a lot of old pain, for both of us. But I want to be honest with you, Lisa. I don’t want us to keep walking on eggshells around each other.”

Lisa looked down at her hands, her fingers nervously tracing the rim of her teacup. “I guess I’ve been trying to figure out where we stand, Jennie. I love you, and I want to move forward, but I can’t pretend that everything’s fine when it’s not.”

Jennie nodded, her heart aching at the truth in Lisa’s words. “You’re right. Things aren’t fine. But I want to make them right, Lisa. I want to rebuild what we had—no, I want to make it even stronger.”

Lisa looked up at her, a flicker of hope in her eyes. “How, Jennie? How do we do that when there’s so much we haven’t dealt with? The hurt from our argument, the way you’ve been feeling overwhelmed and stressed, and now... Taehyung.”

Jennie took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. “I think we need to start by being completely open with each other. No more hiding our feelings, no more brushing things under the rug. We need to be honest, even when it’s hard.”

Lisa nodded slowly, her eyes never leaving Jennie’s. “Okay. Then I’ll start. Jennie, I’ve felt like I’ve been losing you bit by bit, and it scares me. I’ve been trying to be strong, to support you, but sometimes I feel like I’m just a convenience in your life—someone who’s there to help you, but not someone you truly see as your equal.”

Jennie’s heart broke at Lisa’s confession. “Lisa, I’m so sorry you’ve felt that way. I never wanted you to feel like you were less important than anything else in my life. You’re my partner, the person I want to share everything with. But I’ve been so caught up in my work and my own stress that I lost sight of what really matters—you.”

Lisa’s eyes softened, but there was still a lingering sadness in them. “And Taehyung?”

Jennie sighed, running a hand through her hair. “Taehyung was a part of my past, a painful one. When he left me, it shattered something inside me, and I think part of me has been afraid of getting hurt like that again. But you’re not him, Lisa. You’ve always been there for me, and I’ve been blind to how much I’ve hurt you by not letting go of my past fully.”

Lisa reached out, taking Jennie’s hand in hers. “I’m not him, Jennie. And I won’t leave you. But I need you to meet me halfway. We need to work on this together.”

Jennie squeezed Lisa’s hand, feeling a surge of determination. “I’m with you, Lisa. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make this work. I want to prioritize us, our relationship, because you’re the most important person in my life.”

Lisa smiled for the first time in days, a small, tentative smile, but it was genuine. “I want that too, Jennie. I want to be with you, to build a future together, but we need to communicate better, to trust each other.”

Jennie nodded, feeling a sense of hope she hadn’t felt in a long time. “Let’s start fresh, Lisa. Let’s make a promise to each other to always be honest, even when it’s hard, and to never let our love get lost in the chaos of life.”

Lisa leaned in closer, resting her forehead against Jennie’s. “I promise, Jennie. I promise to be honest, to trust, and to love you with everything I have.”

Jennie closed her eyes, savoring the closeness, the warmth of Lisa’s presence. “I promise too, Lisa. I won’t let anything come between us again.”

They stayed like that for a moment, their foreheads touching, breathing in sync. The world outside seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them, connected in a way that felt deeper, more real than before.
