If you asked me what the best part of the East coast was, I wouldn't be able to give you a straight answer.

There's so much to include, but as I sit here on my little corner of the beach, I can single it down to each and every thing. There's the breeze which flows through your hair and divides each strand into their own. The warm sand, never changing its temperature under your feet, the sound of the waves washing over the shoreline, but the one thing that I love the most about it, is the people. You could get to know them in an instant, and your relationship would keep growing the more you knew them. You would get to see how they worked, and how they changed. Like butterflies.

A lot of change had happened since I last came to this spot. Me and my best friend had reworked our entire lives because of her plans to go to a year-long boarding school. It was this fancy private school that she won the lottery for that was all the way out in Illinois, but don't get me wrong, I get that she needed to focus on her studies and to make herself better, but it would be so long before I got to see her again. Phone calls wouldn't be enough.

Thinking about it made me almost sick to my stomach. I felt my insides just twisting and squeezing, it was horrible. Otherwise, this morning, I was out to take photos of the sunrise. I made a plan to print her out a photo she could hang in her dorm so she wouldn't forget about how beautiful it was.

And so she wouldn't forget me.

I had taken a few photos before, but the sun was t showing well in them, until I got a pretty good one without glare, but I noticed a figure in the bottom corner. I looked up, placing my camera down and saw it was a boy, staring as the horizon. He took a breath, turned around and checked out his surroundings before seeing me and smiling. I smiled back to be polite.

I turned to look at another part of the sky to figure out what else I could do for Maia before she left, and speaking of her, I can't just not compliment her. She's probably the biggest know-it-all I know but in the best way. She's so comforting to everyone and she can be so fun once she gets out of her shell. She told me that this summer, if I didn't meet anyone else to hangout with 24/7 that she'd set me up, and don't overlook that, because when she says something like that, she follows through.

I looked back at the other part of the shoreline to see that the boy who was once there had, I guess, left. He didn't seem like a creep, but you never know, because anyone can be a creep now, but really, he didn't seem like it. I was honestly just wondering who he was and why I didn't know him. I knew almost everyone near this spot, but him...

I had no clue.

I got home around 7:00 A

I got home around 7:00 A.M, which gave me enough time to relax before work. I ate whatever my mom was cooking, making sure that my brothers wouldn't take it all before I got to snag any. They were already packed for their conditioning that week, and I thanked the sports administrator gods that it would last until after work.

My brothers played two separate sports, but were both really good at what they did. Connor was usually midfield in lacrosse, and Carter played defense for soccer. They were great for middle schoolers, and I'm sure they would make JV as soon as they got to high school.

Their bags were packed and sat by the doorway of our house as they hurriedly put on their shoes to go.

"Thea are you ready?? We're gonna be late if you don't get your butt over here!" Carter yelled out to me. Punctuality was a thing they did not want to lose when it came to these things.

"Coming!" I said back, putting my plate in the sink and giving my mom a kiss on the cheek bye. "Love you guys, have a good day! Connor, don't take the snacks I bought for your brother or I'm cutting your allowances again." Mom was very strict about the antics they pulled, especially on each other. They had almost burned down the house because neither of them wanted to check in what was burning in the kitchen. It was a whole thing.

We all hopped in the car and I started to slowly back out of the driveway, just to tick them off. In return, I got a slap to the shoulder and a nice push on my seat. Honestly karma on my part, but I immediately pressed the gas and sped out of the driveway, speeding down the road to their school.

It wasn't far, maybe a couple of miles, but as soon as they hopped out I started blasting some Midwestern Princess and yelled out the lyrics to everyone who could hear (they wouldn't be able to after my one-woman show).

Coffee started to play and I started to think about the whole end-of-summer situation. I couldn't stop thinking about it, being the one huge change to happen since I stopped wearing plaid with polka dots. I didn't want it to happen so I thought about the pictures I would give her, which led me to think about the guy from the photo. Who could he have been? All I really remember was that he was blonde and didn't seem like a total weirdo. What if I ran into him again? He was definitely a new face in the area, but maybe he was just a an exploring tourist. We have a lot at this time of year.

My thoughts were abruptly stopped by a honk behind me. I guess I didn't see the light turn green and I sped onto the town road, hoping the person behind me didn't get too mad. Downtown was the best though, where all of the life of the city really was. There were a billion gift shops and definitely a lot of new cafes. Those were a huge cash grab in places like this, but there was an old one that still hadn't changed since I used to go as a kid. I knew the owner well and he let me pick up a job as soon as I was the age, which paid but not that much.

I would pick up some night shifts at a restaurant down the street, but not waitressing or hosting. I sung with the band some weekend or Friday nights just for the fun and lucky for me, the extra cash. I made a load in tips which gave me an opportunity at staying to sing longer.

The cafe job was pretty chill on weekdays. Especially the Mondays at the beginning of June. It was usually because of the rest of the town going into a bed rotting kinda state, but sometimes some of the thrifty girls would visit to get a latte or a pastry.

It was one of those chill days, with few customers and light music from a random station being played in the background. I was chilling for the most part. Just reorganizing, or cleaning the shelves and baking new pastries for them, until at 10 A.M when the door rung as it opened. I got up from my resting pose and looked up at who walked in the door. I noticed the hair first. Blonde curly hair.

Was this the boy from the beach?

A/N: me after rewriting this because I had a story plot change and it changed the entire beginning to the book AGSJDJSKDMDKFK anyways!!! I finally made backstory and had the arc start to develop!!! I have ideas for how I'm gonna word and do perspective for the rest of the book and I'm gonna make sure that it's not too short but not too long, like a good enjoyable book you get from Barnes and noble. Anyways I hope you enjoy the rest thanks for reading!!!!
