Chapter 4 | Beyond The Wall
Twenty-nine years ago, a baby boy was born on December 12, 1996, at 3:15 AM. The mother had looked at the baby with such love and joy, but he was soon quickly taken from her. "They're here! Run!" A woman shouts as the doctor looks in fear. "Doctor, please take my baby and run!" The mother exclaimed as the doctor quickly grabbed the baby.
But it was too late as police officers ran into the scene. The mother gasped as a nurse sedated her and watched the doctor give her son up to the police. "No! Please! Give me back my son!" The mother shouted fearfully as she felt herself getting doozy. They placed the baby blanket over her head after she had quieted down, tears falling from her eyes.
"Be careful," Ray says as Val ends the call. Val peeked in the corner to see if there was anyone around. Seeing the coast was clear, she quietly walked to the door with the glued fingerprint her mother had sent her on her thumb. She was about to press her thumb on the scanner, but the door buzzed. She quickly hid as a guard used her back to open the door.
The guard carried a box and walked away, not noticing Val hiding. Val watched the guard walk away out of sight and she quickly placed her thumb on the scanner, which made a small beep. The door unlocks and she enters swiftly before that guard can look over. As Val entered, she kept striding as she walked down a long corridor.
She sped up kept looking behind her came across an intersection. She looked both ways and turned to her right. What she found was an old computer. It was eerily in the middle of the room as Val kept looking behind her to be sure she was alone. She sat on the chair and found the computer locked with another finger scan.
She looked around for a scanner and found it by the mouse. She checked her thumb to see that the print was still there and pressed it against the scanner. The computer granted access and Val navigated through the files. She had to look for a specific year, 1996. She finally found the folder and inside the folder was another folder labeled as her brother's name.
"Mom, have you ever thought that you imagined it?" Val asked as her mother, Nam, caressed the baby blanket meant for her missing son. "I trusted them once," Nam said, "I believed everything they said. That I had lost my son," she shared. "And that the stress had affected my mind and created hallucinations," she added.
She looked at her daughter. "But believe me, Valentine, it was all lies," Nam told her, remembering what had happened to her. The doctor who had helped deliver the baby had been the one who sedated her that night the police took her son. She remembered the facility they had forced her into and forced her to take drugs with other sad mothers.
But she remembered she endured and kept spitting them out so as not to be victimized by them. "The government lied and controlled us. Your brother must live on The Farm with no chance to choose his own life," Nam said and held Valentine's hand. "Please, find him and bring him home."
"Mom... I found him."
