"Granny I told you before I left with Jasmine that we were going to her friends house." I explained calmly to my granny. She's in the early stages of dementia, I should have never left her alone.

"I know baby, but you know how I get. You're a young smart girl and Im holding you back from the life you deserve."

Oh my poor lady.

"Stop you're my mother, I will never leave you. Im about be on my way home. I love you."

"Okay Suga, I love you too."

With that I hung the phone up. After puffing my hair in the mirror I left the bathroom and returned down the stairs.

"Im bout to leave." A voice I didn't recognize said.

On the last step we looked at each other, I felt his nerves and as I was about to speak Jasmine had to open her huge mouth.

"Rae come sit down, he's a weird one."

And like a docile dog I obeyed. Embarrassing.

Sitting next to Jasmine I leaned back in my seat, working up the courage to say I was about to leave.

I cleared my throat, "Hey Jazz Im about to head home so I can check on Granny."

I peeped she rolled her eyes, but she got her ass up.

"Goodbye everyone, it was nice to meet y'all." I said with a small wave after gathering my things off the floor.

Strange.

"Bye Soul." They said almost harmonious.

"Ummm Im here too? I literally introduced y'all." Jazz spat.

"Guh bye, mean ass." Mahlik said with a bowl of cereal in his hands.

I started heading to the door as Jazz began walking around handing out hugs.

Bring yo ass on, fuck.

Its was the beginning of summer and hot as hell outside. Before I sat in the car on my leather seats I sat a towel down to prevent them from burning my legs. Jazz didn't come out until the car was cooled off.

I should've burnt off on her ass.

"Where you going? Home?" I asked her.

"Nah, can you take me to Slim house please?" She asked kind of shame.

"I told you Im not enabling no nigga to beat my friend ass. I do a lot of shit but I won't do that." I exhaled. "I love you and I don't want to be apart of the reason he kill you one day."

Jazz snorted, "How many times I gotta tell you. He hit me one time, ONCE!"

" If you wanna go over there go, but Im not taking you."

"Oh my God Soul. I swear you do the most, just let me out at the bus stop."

Bitches just don't wanna be saved. Lord watch over my friend.

Pulling up to the bus stop, I grabbed her hand before she could step out. Of course she was too stubborn to look at me.

" You don't have to look just listen, fucking that boy not gone heal you. I love you and I will always be here for you, but anybody who just watch you self destruct is not a real friend. Im praying for you Jasmine." I said sincerely with tears in my eyes.

"Alright Soul, love you too." Jazz said as she got out the car and closed the door.

Now I gotta drive all the way across town.

Me and Jazz been close since grade school, when my Granny took me in she lived next door. She introduced herself to me wearing a yellow tutu. Her big buck teeth and light eyes, were the first signs to me that everything was okay now.

When I was 4 my mom got hooked on drugs and because her brother would enable her when he moved to Mexico, she followed. She got mixed up in some shit that had nothing to do with her and got herself killed. I was left with my Uncle, he didn't even give her a proper funeral. I got a locket with her picture, that was it. I was forced to be with him and the strange men that came around all the time for 5 years.

Finally my Granny came to my rescue, she hadn't even known that my mom had died. Apparently there was a picture of me that got into her hands somehow. A sign from God is what she called it.

Oops, done spaced out, I gotta quit doing that.

As I pulled around the corner there is an ambulance truck and a police car outside my house with the lights on.

Please. I really cannot right now.

"Ma'am you're going to have to turn around and go the other way." An officer said to me, tapping my window.

I parked the car in the middle of the street and opened the door.

"This is my fucking house!" I yelled motioning to house.

I ran in the double doors to see two medics strapping my Granny to the bed thing.

I ran to her side, hearing that she was hysterical.

"Hi Granny, tell me whats wrong? What are you feeling my love?" I said gently and calmly.

"Get off of me! Get off! Tell them to leave me alone! Please get off!" Her voice was scratchy indicating she had been distressed for a long time.

"Do y'all hear her saying get off? Why is she strapped down"

Finally I take a glance around, her couches or ripped up the tv is glitched out and there is blood that looks like it has been coughed into a napkin on the coffee table.

What is going on

"Let her go!" I yelled.

Finally the medics took a step back, "Ma'am we mean no harm, she called us because she coughed up blood but when we got here she began destroying the room."

I don't care, quit talking to me.

"Unstrap her." I looked at them and they looked at each other.

Oh ok, y'all want me to act like her.

I unstrapped her myself and help her up.

"She has dementia, coming in here with hostile energy not gone do nothing but freak her out. Granny do you need to go to the hospital? You have a fever."

"Yes we were going to transport her but had to restrain her due to the state that she was in." The lady said to me.

Hoe move around, aint do shit but make her upset.

"Yea ok, thanks for coming out but I'll drive her myself, can't trust you."

"Ma'am I assure you-"

"I said we good, come on Granny. Lets go for a ride."
