The Club

As we walked out the door, something popped in my head.

"Wait, Zara, you never told me what happened under the bleachers with you and Adam," I said as I peered over her shoulder.

She turned away, with a slight blush. "I don't really feel like-" she started, but I cut her off. "Zar, you can tell me. Whatever happened, you can tell me." I put a calming hand on her shoulder.

"I-I kissed him!" she blurted out loudly, hands clenched.

"What's wrong with that then?" I ask.

"Well . . . after we kissed, I ran away, and I've been seeing him ever since."

I smiled. "That's great! I don't think a boy has ever been that interested in me."

"That's not true," she argued, "Alex gave you his phone number. He's totally into you! I wonder if he's still waiting for you to call him?"

"Yeah, right. Like he'd actually still be waiting."

Just then, Zara's phone vibrated in her pocket. She took it out to check what it was. "Pierina's asking us if we want to go to an all-ages club tonight. You wanna go?"

"Sure," I said, "Why not? I love a good party."

Zara laughed. "I know. Let's go and get changed," Zara suggested excitedly and ran off in the direction of her house.

That night I waited on my front porch in a white cropped top, skintight leather pants, and the silver necklace that I still haven't taken off.

Pierina pulled up in her Chevy with Zara. Zara climbed out looking like she was about to burst with excitement. She had on a floral top that was tied up to show her midriff and jean shorts. "Come on! Let's go! Let's go!"

We both got in the car and Pierina started driving to our destination.

We got to the club in a little less than fifteen minutes. Pierina covered our fees and Zara and I rushed in to join in the party.

The music was loud, the lights were bright, and everyone was dancing. It was the perfect party.

The DJ played song after song. They just kept on coming. Pierina, Zara, and I sat out the slower songs and got sodas from the bar. The bar didn't serve any alcohol if you were wondering. There was even a sign that said "No Alcohol" above the bar.

"Zara, se supone que habrá una banda tocando aquí esta noche," said Pierina. Zara, there's supposed to be a band playing here tonight.

"¡Enfriar!" replied Zara. Cool!

A few songs later the DJ introduced a country cover band that I've already forgotten the name of. The band was made up of guys from our school. They started playing, and I was instantly enchanted by their sound.

After that one of the guitarists started playing a riff that absolutely everyone knew. It was one of my favorites. I turned to look at the band because I'd been facing the other way to see If I could recognize any of the boys.

My eyes immediately went to the lead guitarist as he played whole-heartedly with a huge grin on his face. His green eyes were shining in the stage lights. His hair was tousled like he hadn't even tried to tame it. My insides were starting to flutter as I watched him.

Zara nudged my shoulder. I turned to look at her. "What are you staring at?" she asked.

"Nothing," I replied. Then I continued watching the guitarist.

Zara followed my line of sight and smirked at me. "Looks like your true love is here."

"Would you please stop calling him that!" I scolded her. I swatted at her, but she got out of the way quickly, giggling.
