My Date

The week could not have gone by any slower. It was excruciating to have to sit through lectures and lessons. Why couldn't I just go to sleep and wake up on the weekend?

After school on Friday, Alex caught up to me as I was starting to walk home. Zara had tech club again, so I was by myself.

"Hey, Raven," Alex said.

"Hey, Alex," I said more calmly than I felt.

"You know how you said you'd go on a date with me?" he asked.

"Yes and I can't wait," I answered.

"Um, what time do you want me to pick you up?" Alex asked with a hint of nervousness.

I thought for a minute. "How 'bout nine-ish?" I suggested.

He smiled his sweet smile. "Nine-ish it is."

I couldn't help but giggle.

On Saturday, I was sitting on my front porch in ripped, dark jeans and a white tube-top. I had also decided to keep on my moon necklace.

I heard an engine coming up the road and stood up.

Seconds later, Alex pulled up in a dark blue Camaro. He climbed out of the car wearing jeans and a black t-shirt. I suddenly felt a little overdressed but at the same time perfectly comfortable. "Hey," he called.

"Hey," I called back.

"You look great," he complimented me.

I smiled and blushed a little. "Thanks." I peered at the car. "Is the car supposed to impress me?"

Alex looked at his car and then back at me. "No, it's just my car," he said with a small laugh.

"So, are we going somewhere? I don't really know how this works. I've never been on a date before," I admitted.

Alex gave me a look. "I would've thought you'd been on plenty. Actually, I would have thought every guy in town would be after you."

I giggled. "I think most boys prefer blondes and brunettes."

"I don't really see the appeal," Alex said, simply.

I blushed harder. I looked straight into Alex's eyes and almost immediately pulled my eyes away again.

Alex and I were quiet for a minute. Then Alex said, "I set up something. You wanna go see it?"

"Sure," I replied.

Alex opened the passenger door, and I climbed in. The inside of the car was pretty nice. It had leather seats, speakers, and plenty of room. Alex got into the driver's seat and turned the car back on.

I watched the scenery whiz by through the open window as we drove past. "Where are we going?" I asked Alex.

"Heh, it wouldn't be a surprise if I told you, would it?" He stirred the car around back to face the street.

"You can stop staring out the window, now." Alex tapped on my shoulder, and I was wrenched out of my thoughts. I twisted around and remembered the moment. Alex then walked around the car and opened the car door. I stepped out watching his eyes shimmering in the moonlight. And right in front of me was the most alluring sight I'd ever laid eyes on.

The gates of the Jewel Central Park were open, leading to a concrete path into the park. The trees were wrapped with fairy lights, some even hanging from the branch. Small lanterns were hung from tree branches making them seem like they were suspended in midair. I was completely speechless.
