4 Years Later
"Mia, wake up, you're gonna be late for school!" I woke up to the sound of my mother yelling at me through my bedroom door. Feeling groggy, I hauled my ass up and went to the bathroom to do my morning routine. I had already taken a shower last night, so now I'm just gonna brush my teeth and try to tame the lion mane in my head called hair. When I was done, I walked into my walk-in closet to pick out an outfit that will be acceptable in the eyes of my overbearing mother.
Don't get me wrong, I love my mother, but she can be a little too much at times. Who am I kidding, she is a lot.
I get that we are the family of Julian Saint Clair, the multi-billion dollar CEO, and therefore we have to act accordingly so we won't mess up my father's image and all. But boy, does it get tiring, with all the charity events, exclusive parties, and balls we have to attend all the time. I never get time for myself to be a teenager.
Some of you may say I'm ungrateful because being rich is amazing, but it's truly not. There is so much more to life than money, but hey! That's just how I feel.
I finally found an outfit that my mother will be happy with. It's black wide-leg leather pants with black Chanel strappy heels and a black long-sleeved bodysuit. For accessories, I put on my silver Gucci watch and lastly, I took my Miu Miu beige backpack, the only non-black item in my outfit.
As I made my way downstairs, the smell of fresh toast, bacon, and eggs greeted me. "Good morning, Mom," I said as I kissed my mother on the cheek, and she just smiled too engrossed in her book.
Our housekeeper, Edith, looked up from the stove where she was busy making eggs for breakfast and smiled. "Good morning, dear. Sleep well?" she asked. I nodded, watching as she served me a plate of toast, bacon, and eggs.
I quickly ate my breakfast at the speed of light since I was running late for school. When I was done, I grabbed my car keys and said my goodbyes.
I got inside my black AMG, buckled my seatbelt, and pulled out of the driveway. I couldn't wait to see my friends.Twenty minutes later, I arrived at my school with a few minutes to spare, thank God.
Welcome to Grove Hill Prep, where the wealthy elite send their kids to mingle with the equally affluent.
You'd think it's just another high school, but with a little twist. In our school, we don't have cliques; it's just a sea of entitled faces.
Everyone's parents are billionaires, and their inheritances are already guaranteed. But of course, every school has its queen bee or someone who thinks she's the queen bee, and ours is the infamous Victoria King. She's convinced the world revolves around her, but trust me, it doesn't.
What's worse, she's had it out for me since freshman year, and I still have no idea why. I've spent years trying to figure out what I did to earn her disdain, but the answer remains a mystery.
Victoria's hatred has become a constant in my life, and I've learned to navigate it, but it's always there beneath the surface.
As I stepped out of the car and onto the school grounds,I made my wsy to my locker, where my friends were already waiting for me,chatting and laughing.
As we catch up,I notice a hushed buzz in the hallway.Carson raises an eyebrow."What's going on?"he whispers,he's eyes scanning the crowd. We exchange curious glances, but no one seems to know.
Shrugging,Carson stuffs his books in his bag and and we head to our first class Math.Ugh!just what what I needed to make this day complete.
I trudge behind my friends,my mind still on the strange whispers, little did I know, this day is about to get a lot more interesting, and yes me and my friends have the same classes.
The morning seems to go by in a flash and fortunately for us it's now lunchtime.
As we make our way to the cafeteria,I noticed how the buzz from this morning has intensified people are staring at us and whispering among themselves."Is it me or are people staring at us?" I ask my friends as we make our way inside the cafeteria."Yes,you're right but what could they possibly be staring at us for?"Sophia asks as she moves up the food line,I don't even know why we're in this line because we usually just eat out of school.
Right after Sophia asked her question someone enters the cafeteria doors and everyone goes completely quiet,I turn around to look at what has everyone's attention and when I tell you my heart stopped for a sec I'm not being dramatic, there stood my long lost best friend in all his glory.
Alexander Black the person who left us and went to London in freshman year.Alexander's piercing blue eyes scanned the room, his gaze locked on to mine with an intensity that made my heart skip a beat.It was as if no time has passed at all,and yet everything was different. He looked...older,his features chiseled, his presence commanding.
The room seemed to hold it's collective breath as he confidently approached us,his eyes never leaving mine.
"Alexander" I whispered,my voice barely audible over the sudden silence.
He stopped in front of me,a hint of a smile playing on his lips before it disappeared."Hey long time no see", he said, his deep voice sending shivers down my spine.
The room erupted into a flurry of whispers and gasps, with students taking pictures and videos.I was in a daze unable to process the sudden return of my former best friend.
Sophia noticed this and stepped in her voice firm."Alexander, what are you doing here?.We thought you were in London."
Alexander's gaze flickered to Sophia and the guys, then back to me."I'm back," he said simply, his eyes burning with an unknown emotion and then it was quickly gone.
I felt like I was drowning in his eyes, unsure of what to say or do next. Then he turned his back on me and left without saying anothet word and he was once againg gone but not for good this time.
Little did I know,Alexander's return would set off a chain of events that will change everything and I was not ready for that.
After he left, the bell rang, and we had to get back to class.I didn't even get a chance to grab good.Ugh,who am I kidding? After seeing Alexander,I lost my appetite.
I mean can you blame me?The guy's been gone for four years and now he's back. Why?Well,I'll have to find out some other time .Right now I've gotta go to class.
During class time dragges by agonizingly slow,it's like the clock knew I wanted to escape. After what felt like hours of never ending toture the final bell rang, and we could go home.
But first my friends and I usually hang out at this cute little coffe shop called,Sally's to chat and unwind,to other people it might not look like our style but we love it because we get to escape our reality for a few minutes, making it look like we are normal folk.
Who am I kidding we stick out like a sore thumb but we don't care,it's been years now for me and my friends to go to Sally's after school you might it's some kind of tradition.
After school we met in the parking lot,Sophia turned to me with a sheepish grin.
"Hey,Ameli, can I catch a ride with you to Sally's?....I'm sorry to ask again, but...." she trailed off, looking embarrased.I raised an eyebrow, curious."What's going on,Soph?"
Sophia sighed."I failed my driver's test again." she shook her head laughing wrly."My mom is refusing to buy me a car until I pass, and I'm starting to think I'll never get it."I sympathized with her remembering how frustrating it was when I was learning to drive."Don't worry,Soph you'll get it eventually! And in the meantime,I'm happy to drive you around,"she smiled happily.
"But seriously though Soph, how many times has it been now?"I asked her with a smirk,"I think about five times now."she said sheepishly, the guys who were standing nearby laughed and made fun of her,good-naturedly about her driving skills(or lack thereof).Sophia playfully rolled her eyes and we got inside the car and drove off to Sally's.
