No matter how hard life can get, there's always one specific night that manages to put a smile on my face. Baking night with the girls.
It usually ends up with us getting flour everywhere in the kitchen, or messing up the recipes, or improvising them if we don't have all the ingredients. But, honestly, it brings me so much comfort and it heals me mentally. It distracts me even for a few minutes from my anxious thoughts.
I would rather die than admit to anyone that a girl like me is obsessed with such thing as baking, though. They'd mock me forever. No, thank you.
There are times that I'd be sitting in my room, studying and doing my homework until I would get this sudden urge to bake cookies at 3 am without reason. No regrets, honestly, it's worth it every single time.
We decided to gather at Cami's house today to bake brownies in her kitchen. My favorite. We divided our tasks according to our level of skill in baking. They gave me the easiest task out of them. Mixing the ingredients.
Okay, I know that I burn my brownies almost every time, but it's the taste that matters. Never judge things on the outside. They always taste amazing, as if a true chef made it.
Cami is the most experienced one out of us, so she's in charge of the recipe. She wore a cheerful yellow apron, and measured the ingredients. Madelyn and Gabriella are probably going to handle the baking part in the oven and getting brownies out.
"Okay guys, we need butter, white sugar, and... Oh we don't have brown sugar. We'll just scratch that." She giggles awkwardly, scratching it from the ingredients list. Improvising time, I guess. "Do we have cocoa powder? We can't scratch that, it's one of the main ingredients." Her eyebrows furrow as she looks up at us.
"Hold on, I'll check!" Gabi says as she searches through the cabinets, but she eventually shakes her head and sighs. "No cocoa powder here."
"Do we have flour and eggs at least? I can find a solution for the cocoa powder problem." Cami says. Madelyn checks in the fridge, "Yes, both are there. Can't we just put chocolate instead of cocoa powder?"
Cami hums softly, thinking about it. "I never tried that before, but it's worth a try. What's the difference anyway? They're both chocolate. It'll be fine."
We nod in agreement. "Well if it helps, we can just give it to Henry if it turns out horrible. He won't notice a thing since he eats pretty much everything. Problem solved." I suggest with a small shrug.
Cami giggles, "Stop being mean! No, he doesn't—" I cut her off with a scoff, "Did you forget what he did last time? Mom prepared three bowls of Roz Be Laban for me, you and him. One minute, I look away, and when I turn around— the three bowls? Empty. Henry? Satisfied and patting his full stomach."
