"Xavier!" I called him as a wanderer ran to attack him. I stopped to watch. He is good with his sword.
I sat on the grass. It was like a losing game for the wanderers. They are unlucky that Xavier found them.
And of course, I only have one or two kills. I sighed. This guy...
I clapped sarcastically. "Good job, PARTNER," I grumbled as I cleaned my not-so-dirty hand.
"A-Are you mad?" He asked uneasiness in his eyes.
"Oh no." Raising my eyebrows I crossed my arms. "You just finished every wanderer around." I looked away from him.
"I'm sorry.. Can you forgive me?"
I quickly turned my attention to him and saw his face-- Like a bunny. Like an innocent bunny.
"S-Stop looking at me like that." Checking my hunter watch, I saw it was almost time to go home.
"Ulfa." He called me as I turned away.
"It's almost time to go home," I looked at him as he jogged towards me. "You coming or what?"
"Let's go home together," Xavier said as he walked beside me. I smiled.
"I need to do grocery shopping."
He hummed. "Do you... Want me to come with you?"
"Won't you be busy?" I asked as we walked out of the park's tree line.
"No. I won't." I saw him brush his fingers on the dangling star tassels of his sword.
"Alright." We walked towards the city center and entered the grocery store.
Xavier took a cart and pushed it beside me. I took my grocery list in my pocket.
"Hmm.. This.. This.. This.. And t-this--" I can't reach the box of cereals on the shelf. I even stood on tiptoes, but.. yeah. I am too. Small. I sighed.
"Allow me--" Xavier stood behind me and reached for the box easily. "Which cereal, Ulfa?"
I looked at his hands.. "T-That one."
After he got the cereal, I quickly went to the cashier. I wanted to go home already.
"Ulfa," Xavier spoke behind me. "I have to pick something up..." He looked around. "Wait for me here." He glanced at the long line.
"H-Huh? O-Okay.."
"I'll be quick." He kissed my head and ran off.
I think my ears are hot... I looked at the basket with my groceries. Also, I can hear the teenagers behind me giggling.
"That guy looks so handsome." "Yeah! He kissed the girl!"
It's not helping. The blush slowly creeps into my cheeks.
It's been almost ten minutes, and I am still standing in the line. And Xavier isn't back yet. I frowned, "What's taking him so long?" I grumbled under my breath.
After a minute, Xavier arrived.
I looked at him, curious.
"W-What-- what's that?" I was surprised. "D-Do you have a date?"
He's holding a bouquet, a small box of chocolates--
"U-Ulfa.." sweat rolls down from his forehead.
"You looked like you ran around the mall..." I whispered. "Are you okay?" I pulled my handkerchief and wiped his forehead.
"Because I did run around the mall." He smiled sheepishly, he took the bouquet between us. "For you."
The girls behind us are now squealing. I blinked. "W-Why--"
Xavier smiled at me. "I think you forgot... Happy birthday, Ulfah."
"B-Birthday?" I asked then it hit me. It's today. I've been too busy with work, I forgot.
"Yes. Happy birthday," he repeated and chuckled. People are now looking at us, gathering around us.
"Uhm.. Xavier... Is it necessary to do this here?" I roamed my eyes and blushed. "People are looking at us," I mumbled.
"If I can show them how special you are to me, then let them look." He then pulled a medium-sized velvet box from his back pocket. "Here.." He gave me the box, and I slowly unraveled the yellow ribbon; opening the box, a cute bracelet showed itself to me, with a little star dangling from it.
"It's so cute.." I whispered as I ran my fingers along the beads.
"I had a hard time choosing, but I guess... You liked it." His gentle voice reached my ears despite the noise around us.
"I love it." I grinned as I took the trinket out of the box.
"Allow me?" He reached for the bracelet, and I happily put it in his hands. He gently wore it on my wrists.
I jumped, hugged him, and giggled. "I almost forgot it's my birthday; thank you for this, Xavier." My voice broke a bit as my eyes teared up.
She chuckled and hugged me tight. "This is PDA but I don't mind now--" kissing my forehead, he looked at my face. "It's your turn to pay." He gave the cashier his card.
The girl by the cash register woke up from a daze. She's looking at Xavier as if he's an illusion or a dream.. I took Xavier's card and sighed. "Miss, wake up," I laughed softly. "The line is getting longer.
"O-Oh yes! I'm sorry."
"Look at what you've done," I grumbled as I waited for my groceries to be put in the bag.
"B-But you like it?" Xavier teased.
I smiled. "Yes, I like it," I admitted.
His hand found mine. "Happy birthday again, PARTNER." He teased.
