THERE WAS A BURNING BEHIND HER EYELIDS, a light so bright that Emma briefly thought she was in  heaven before finally she opened them and realized that thankfully, she was not.

Instead of the pearly gates, Emma was greeted by the color green, belonging to lush trees and shrubs that were rare near the city.

She was in a forest of some kind, one that she had no memory or knowledge of how she entered. The last thing Emma remembered was driving down the country roads, towards the city until...

Oh.

Emma suddenly gasped as the memories of the car crash came flooding back, making her stand up abruptly. Pain and dizziness overcame her body at once, making Emma groan as she panted and held onto a nearby tree to keep from collapsing.

The world went blank for a second before she blinked, gaining her bearings and wincing as she looked around her.

As far she could tell, Emma was somewhere in the forest where the accident happened. She couldn't see the car, but she must have stumbled away looking for help and that was how she ended up here.

She didn't exactly remember the details, but it seemed like the most plausible explanation.

After all, from what she did remember, it was bad. The images of what happened were sort of blurry in her mind, but she was still able to recall the sickening sight of her sisters lying there, upside down and unconscious.

Blood was everywhere. Lana wasn't breathing...

Emma sighed as she stepped forward. The pain and the guilt for what happened weighed her down as she walked as best as she could, trying to ignore the beating of her heart as it thumped rapidly.

Her whole body seemed to be burning from the inside out, aching with every step she took. It was hard to even try and breathe, but she did for the sake of trying to calm down.

She needed to focus so she could get back to the car, and fast. It was obvious from her memories that Lana and Lilah were in no condition to call for help, which meant that if she wanted to save her sisters then it had to be her that did it.

Obviously, the plan her half-conscious mind came up with of trying to find help around them didn't work. As far Emma could see, there was nothing here but grass, trees and the occasional bush. There were no houses, and barely any signs of life.

Oddly, enough, there were no cell towers either.

She looked and she looked, but Emma couldn't see anything except for trees and clouds in the sky.

There were no signs of civilization, which made her worry. Surely, she couldn't have wondered that far in her injured state. She could barely walk now, and she couldn't imagine getting very far immediately after the crash.
