The first rays of the sun filtered through the gaps in the curtains, painting the room with a soft golden glow. The air was filled with a serene calm, and the birds' song outside added a tranquil melody to the morning. I woke up slowly, feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. I turned to see Nu, deeply asleep. His tousled hair fell in soft strands over his forehead, and his hands rested under his cheek, giving him an innocent and tender look, like that of a small child. I could never get used to this sight; it always managed to stir my heart.
I watched as his long, dark eyelashes fluttered slightly, and a small smile formed on my lips. I moved a little closer, enjoying the peace of that moment, feeling a deep gratitude for having him by my side. "Good morning, love..." I whispered, but stopped when I saw him suddenly get up and rush to the bathroom.
My heart raced, and a wave of panic washed over me. What was wrong? I quickly got up, fear tightening my chest, and followed him to the bathroom. When I arrived, I found him laughing between retches. "It's just the baby saying hello," he said with a pale smile. I relaxed instantly, feeling a mix of relief and overwhelming love.
Every time I saw him like this, so vulnerable and strong at the same time, my love for him grew even more. I approached and hugged him gently, resting my head on his shoulder. I felt his warmth and strength, and I knew there was no place in the world I'd rather be. "I love you," I whispered, feeling that those words weren't enough to express everything I felt. Nu smiled and kissed me on the cheek, and at that moment, I was certain that Nu had the ability to make every moment perfect.
It had only been a few days since our stay in the North. We stayed there while his health stabilized and to be by Charlie's side when he took the throne. The atmosphere in the palace was solemn, with an air of anticipation and nervousness.
That afternoon, Nu finally understood the true nature of the relationship between Babe and Charlie. Apparently, Charlie still hadn't been clear with Jeff. The revelation was so shocking to Nu that he had no doubts. Although, to be honest, I knew he suspected it deep down.
That same morning, Nu had told me with a radiant smile that he was very happy that Babe and Charlie had become such close friends.
"Friends?" I asked, frowning, feeling a pang of confusion. Hasn't Charlie told him anything? I wondered internally.
"Babe has helped him a lot, and they're very close. I want to give Babe a gift in gratitude. Not just for Charlie, but also for his help last time. What do you think he might like?"
"Last time? How did he help you?" I asked, my curiosity piqued.
Nu looked at me with doubt. He opened and closed his mouth several times, unable to articulate a word, and finally looked away.
"Nu, how did Babe help you?" I insisted, my concern and suspicion growing as I searched his gaze.
"Nothing, nothing really," he said without looking at me, a slight tremor in his lower lip. He was hiding something from me.
"Nu, I thought we would tell each other everything from now on. Don't you trust me?" I asked in a plaintive tone, completing the act with a small pout. I could see his conflicted look and how he swallowed hard.
"Please, don't tell him I told you," he asked in a whisper.
"I won't," I assured him with a soft smile.
"He... he gave me the... the... handcuffs for your birthday," he said in a barely audible whisper.
I took a deep breath. Calm down, Alan, calm down, I told myself internally as I felt the anger grow inside me. The betrayal and surprise mixed in my chest, creating a storm of emotions difficult to control.
