A large serpent barreled through the woods with an arrow piercing one of its eyes, and a dagger protruding from the center of its head, hissing and spitting venom so strong it melted the surrounding plant life.

As the snake coiled and hissed, a large brown bear leaped on top of it, crushing the snake's head with her paws.

Vex'aliha Vessar shuddered at the sound of cracking bone. "Ugh! How many of these snakes are left, brother? I don't know how much more of this I can take."

"It should be nine, but there's no telling how many he has taken care of by now." Her brother Vax'ildan sighed, his eyes trained on three other serpents that were approving them from the shadows. "...Then again, we also don't know how many were in that cave. How did they find us anyway?"

"Trinket dragged one of them out." Her bow fully drawn, Vex tracked one of the snakes with her arrow.

Half-elf twins had tracked the snakes in the forest to gather their venom, only, the information they had was far too outdated. As they approached the cave, a snake that was twice their size ambushed from a burrow hidden by the green undergrowth. It kind of went out of control from there.

"I just wanted to give him a nice, thoughtful, gift... Why is it never easy to get him presents?"

"Because he never truly wants anything. Well, there's us, but he already has that." Vax chuckled quietly, thinking about their mutual friend who'd been with them for almost as long as his memory went back. He pulled a new dagger from his belt, just as a bolt surged through the air and collided with the head of one snake, causing it to go crashing into the second, and then the third.

The blinding arrow bore through the serpents' sturdy scales as if slicing through butter, and caused all three to fall limp on the leafy terrain.

Meadow exhaled, lowering his bow as he approached. "Are you alright?"

A half fae/phoenix had followed his friends after they disappeared. He happened upon them in their predicament, and immediately joined the battle, which attracted more snakes to their location.

"Has anyone been poisoned? I have anti-venom."

"No, we're both fine. Mostly unharmed." Vex gestured towards the fallen serpents. Their sharp fangs oozed the venom she'd been searching for, and while she was grateful that her friend had taken them down, for him to do so with such ease was a little disheartening.

Meadow nodded, turning his attention to the quiet sound of crackling leaves. "Great, now, if you two don't mind telling me why the fuck you're here and not at the Inn, I would be most grateful."

He had no quiver or arrows, just a bow made of a Phoenix's bone and tendon for the string. It was a beautifully crafted piece, created by his own hand.

"Meadow, would you be a dear and hold off on scolding us until we're off this damned mountain? Please?"

"...Tssk... If you weren't my friend, darling..." The half-fae grumbled with a quiet chide, "Oh fine, whatever. Vax, on your left."

At his word, Vax'ildan's attention shifted to a snake that was hidden by the brush and appeared ready to strike. The moment the serpent lunged for the attack, Vax threw his dagger into the serpent's open mouth.

For a split second, the blade seemed to have swallowed the snake, only for it to pierce through the back of its neck and get stuck in a tree behind it.

The serpent's limp body landed at Vax's feet, oozing a mixture of blood and greenish acidic venom.

"That was almost too easy."

"Don't get cocky." Meadow sighed while nudging Vax with his elbow.

To anyone that might glace over the odd group, the half-elves would appear completely identical. They had dark brown messy hair, fair skin, slender builds, practical clothing, deadly weapons, and were weathered/weary well beyond their years.
