~~*~~ = time skip
As the first rays of sunshine touched the horizon, birds began chirping their morning songs. Despite the early time, the streets were bustling as usual.
Althea ran towards her train station, dressed in a red beret and stylish clothing, her red heels clicking rapidly on the pavement. She anxiously glanced at her watch with a piece of toast clamped between her teeth. She was running late, yet again.
The final call to enter the train was blaring in her ears, it was near departure time. She weaved through pedestrians and finally made it onto the platform, just barely before the doors shut. In the middle of trying to steady herself, her bag got caught in between the train doors. She tugged at it trying to get it unstuck, but instead, it ripped causing her lunch to fall to the floor.
"My lunch..." she said sadly while looking at the splattered remains of what used to be a neatly wrapped tuna sandwich.
Althea felt something brush her legs causing her to jump a little. Looking down, her eyes widen when a familiar black and white cat comes in and eats the crumbled remains of her tuna sandwich from the floor.
"Ahmed Ibn Al-Shisha Falafel?!" she exclaimed.
It was the beloved company pet for her workplace, quiet and cute as always.
Ahmed Ibn Al-Shisha Falafel sniffed the air, he glanced up at Althea and, to her astonishment, began to speak.
"Understand your own cosmic insignificance," he said, his voice calm and oddly soothing. "Then, you can understand that nothing matters. There, you see? Because nothing matters, you can be free to be yourself."
Althea looked around, making sure if anyone else had heard him speak, though everyone seemed to be unbothered. Her mouth was agape in shock, unable to comprehend what had just happened, but before she could even respond, the doors to the train opened and the wave of people made her lose sight of the mystical cat.She stepped off the train and walked up the stairs, still mulling over the cryptic words of Ahmed Ibn Al-Shisha Falafel. Her fat ass couldn't climb up all the stairs though so she had to take a breather in the midst of going up. Finally, after that hectic commute to work, she ended up at her destination.
"Another day on the job.." she'd sigh as she tilted her head upwards. In front of her a building towered over her. It was none other than Cupids Creations, a famous clothing corporation located in New York City.
As she entered the lobby and pressed the button for the elevator, she heard a familiar voice behind her, causing her to grimace. Kari, her eternally emo co-worker even though he's in his 20s, starts grating on her nerves.
"Morning," muttered Kari while sweeping his bangs to the side.
Althea seethed through her teeth and muttered, "I hate this stupid twink."
Kari looked at her confused, which she noticed quickly, leading her to plaster a fake smile on her face, "I said it's a sunny morning huh?"
Kari fidgeted with his thumbs while looking down, "I can't tell because I live in eternal darkness, every day is the same, honestly I don't even know why I'm still working this job anymore. It's not like I need the money since I can't even see past tod-"
Althea's face deadpans as she quickly put the volume up on her earphones before the elevator doors finally opened. She stepped out, still being able to faintly hear the depressive muttering of Kari behind her. Thank god they were in different departments.
As she headed to her desk she saw her co-worker, Dash, making a horrible joke and letting out a cartoonish giggle. Her other co-worker, Grayson, just stared at him wondering what the joke was supposed to even mean.
