Tobio Kageyama walked down the street, making his way towards Karasuno highschool with only one thing on his mind. Shoyo Hinata. A short, orange haired, sometimes annoying, middle blocker. He used to hate him, then he didn't mind him, and then he started to like him, until he started to love him. He hated that he liked Hinata as more than a friend, because Hinana was someone on the team, and if he didn't like Kageyama back, he wouldn't be able to focus on volleyball, and volleyball was more important than a boy.
Kageyama looked straight ahead of him, at the bus Takeda had rented so the team could take a long drive to a week long training camp with Nekoma, Fukurodani, Shinzen, and Ubugawa High.
"Hey, Kageyamas here!" Nishinoya shouted.
"Hey, Kageyama!" Hinata shouted. "Come on we want to make it there in time to have a match!"
"Stop shouting!" Daichi said. "People who live near the school might hear you!" Kageyama jogged over to the bus and stood next to Hinata.
"So, you excited to play against Nekoma?" He asked. "You're friends with their setter right?"
"Oh, uh, yeah." Hinata said, stumbling over his words. "And Inuoka!" He quickly added.
"Are you trying to get close with their whole team or something?!" Tanaka said loudly.
"No!"
"Alright everybody on the bus!" Ukai called. Kageyama and Hinata gave each other a look before sprinting towards the bus door. They both tried to squeeze past each other through the small door but ended up getting stuck.
"Come on guys!" Sugawara said. "Don't hold up everybody else!"
"Ennoshita!" Daichi called. Ennoshita sighed and walked over to the duo, pulling Hinata away from the door and letting Kageyama pass.
"Ha! I win!" He declared before making his way down the isle. Hinata sprinted after him and nudged him just enough to squeeze through for a window seat.
"That's fifty three wins for you, and fifty one for me." He said.
"You made it to the window seat first, doesn't that count as a win?"
"Tobio Kageyama, telling me I won, this is the greatest moment in history!"
"Shut it shrimp! I just want it to be fair!"
"Can you guys please be quiet?!" Tsukkishima said. "The sun hasn't even come up yet."
"Seriously you two, I don't know where all that energy comes from." Daichi said, sitting down. The two first years quickly sat up straight and stopped talking.
"Sorry Daichi!" The said in unison.
"It's fine, just please at least try to fall asleep on the ride there." Everyone finished boarding the bus and Takeda started the long drive into Tokyo. Hinata quickly fell asleep, much to Kageyama's dismay, on his shoulder. He didn't really hate it, infact he enjoyed it a lot, but he was terrified of anyone finding out he liked him. After trying to 'act cool' for a few minutes he gave up and closed his eyes.
Kageyama was awakened by the sun shining into his eyes, and Hinata's laughing.
"What's so funny?" He muttered, still in the process of waking up.
"My mom gave her phone to Natsu so she could text me, but none of what's she's saying makes any sense!" Hinata responded.
"Kind of like you."
"Be quiet!"
"What's she saying?"
"Something about stealing my volleyball." Hinata said. Kageyama watched as he switched over to Kenma's texts. Nekoma's setter, Kenma Kozume, Hinata somehow managed to befriend him the first time they met, and Kageyama hated it. He was Hinata's best friend, he was Hinata's setter, he was going to be Hinata's boyfriend, not some lazy second year on a different team. He looked back at Hinata and his phone every few minutes, until he noticed the look on Hinata's face.
"Hinata?" He asked.
"What's up, Kageyama?" Hinata asked, turning to face him. They stared at each other for a minute before Hinata turned green.
The whole bus heard as Kageyama screamed, "Not on me! Not on me!" He stood up and moved into the isle.
"Kageyama sit down!" Daichi ordered. He quickly sat down next to Sugawara across the isle from Hinata.
"I am not getting puked on!"
"Takeda, pull over by a gas station." Ukai said. Everyone cringed as they heard Hinata lose his lunch on the bus.
"Y'know, you could try comforting him." Sugawara said as Kageyama sat next to him. He just nodded and looked over at Hinata slumped over on the seat. Takeda eventually found somewhere to pull over and Yamaguchi helped Hinata to the nearest bathroom.
"Everytime we drive somewhere this happens." Tsukkishima said.
"It's not his fault he gets car sick." Tanaka replied.
"Maybe he should stop staring at his phone!"
"He was texting his mom and sister!" Kageyama said loudly.
"Alright calm down!" Ukai said stepping between them. "It's really not that big of a deal, specs needed a break from driving anyways, and you guys definitely don't want to be sitting in there for more than and hour at a time."
"He's going to live guys!" Sugawara said walking back towards the team with Hinata and Yamaguchi by his side. Hinata was glued to his phone, with a huge smile on his face that he was failing to hide. Everyone boarded the bus again, which had been cleaned by Ukai, and the trip resumed.
"What are you so happy about?" Kageyama asked.
"Nothing!" Hinata responded quickly, still smiling.
"Don't lie to me!"
"I'm not!"
"Yes you are!"
"Am not!"
"Stop lying!"
"Both of you shut up!" Tanaka said from the seat behind them. "We're only thirty minutes from the training camp now so argue when we get there!"
"Sorry!" Kageyama said. For the rest of the drive Kageyama sat silently, staring ahead at the seat Infront of him, and occasionally sending a text to his sister. They finally made it to the training camp, and the other teams were waiting outside for them. Hinata jumped up, climbed over Kageyama, and sprinted out of the bus. The rest of the team got out at a normal pace and talked with the members of other teams. Kageyama watched as Kenma and Hinata left the crowd and started talking in a secluded corner of the parking lot. He suddenly felt worried and angry, although he cooled down when he took a minute to think. They're just friends, right? He thought.
