He's Not Your Setter

Chapter 4

Kageyama stared at Hinata waiting for an answer.

"Tell me, Hinata! What's really going on with you and Nekoma's setter?!" He said.

"I can't tell you." Hinata said quietly.

"What?" 

"Let me just text him first!" Hinata said. He whipped out his phone and typed at lightning speed. Kageyama could see the fear in Hinata's face, causing him to get nervous as well, but he refused to let it show.

"What is there to text him about?!"

"Alright, he didn't want you to know, but I can tell you now."

"Me specifically?!"

"When I first met him, I said that you were a big, mean, scary setter, and the first time he met you I guess you just stared him down or something and since then he's been kind of scared of you."

"Whatever, get to the point!"

"Me and Kenma," Hinata stared at the ground as he said the last part. "He's my boyfriend." Kageyama stared at the short, orange haired boy in front of him. He felt an overwhelming dread fall over him, and he was wishing he could somehow go back in time and stop himself from asking.

"Oh, alright then." Kageyama said, trying not to sound as sad as he was. Hinata started walking back to the teams bedroom. Kageyama stood still in the hallway, staring at the place where his best friend was standing moments ago. Everything suddenly clicked in his head, all the texting, Hinata being overly happy on the bus, the parking lot conversation, always stopping to talk to each other, eating all their meals together. He felt the overwhelming urge to cry, so he walked as fast as he could to the end of the long, white hallway. He turned the corner by staircase and a set of doors, crouched down, and buried his head in his knees. I should've known, I should've fucking known! How could he hide this from me, how could he choose that lazy weirdo from a different school in a different prefecture over me! We were best friends, and they randomly met on the street! He thought. 

"Kageyama?" Sugawara said, suddenly appearing at the corner. He sat down next to Kageyama and watched the stairs. "Y'know, the coaches or managers might see you if you stay here."

"What do you want?" He choked quietly through his tears.

"To know what's wrong."

"It's nothing."

"Do I have to point out why it's not?"

"Just leave me alone."

"You know I won't, but if you want I can just sit with you in silence." Why did someone have to come over here and find me? I know I wasn't being that loud! Whatever, just calm down. You and Hinata will still be friends, and there's no way this can last, Kenma goes to a school in Tokyo, that's so far away from the Miyagi prefecture! Slowly, Kageyama calmed himself down and brought his head out of his knees.

"Don't tell Daichi."

"Why would I?"

"You tell him everything."

"Well I won't tell him about this, I promise. Now, if you really don't want him to know, go wash off your face."

"I don't want anyone to see me."

"I'll make sure the coast is clear." Sugawara said, standing up and and walking down the hallway to the bathroom. "You're all good!" He said once he came back. Kageyama stood up and walked as fast as he could to the bathroom, washing his face, and then locking himself in a stall. Damnit! I'm so fucking pathetic! Of course they we're dating, you should've known that just by seeing how they reacted when we got off the bus! Kageyama took a deep breath and went to wash his face one more time before leaving the bathroom. When he got to the bedroom he saw his team in different groups around the room talking to eachother. He saw Hinata sitting with Tanaka and Nishinoya on his phone. Probably texting Kenma. Kageyama thought. He sat down on his bed and stared at his phone. He thought about texting his sister, but he knew she was busy, she always was, so he just pretended he was doing something. He felt a tap on his shoulder and quickly turned around.
