There was no greater punishment than jealousy, Lyla knew that for a fact. Every time something went wrong in her life, she always fantasized thinking about if she was someone else. Sometimes it was celebrities, book characters, or the people surrounding her.

She wished and wished she had a normal life. One that didn't resolve around silly family feuds and mafia business.

There was something that felt normal in her life once, it felt like a different lifetime.

She remembered what it felt like to be loved by someone, or what she imagined it to feel like. In reality she knew the love was one sided, but the feeling of obsession was enough for her.

Her background with Landon King was long, sick and twisted. But it was something she would never forget, even if she wanted to.

He was her best friend, the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. He had her wrapped around his thumb, as he toyed with her.

He truly did love her, just not in the way she wanted. And she knew that, she was fine with it at that time.

But what she didn't expect was for him to toss her aside when things got too much for him to handle.

She hated her brothers for ripping her away from him, she hated Landon for breaking her heart, and she hated herself even more for letting herself fall for his games.

She would've done anything for him, and he just left. She wished he stayed, more than anything.

Over time those feelings of desperation turned into hatred, and now she couldn't imagine feeling anything for Landon other than resentment.

Lyla laughed blankly at another one of Annika's jokes. She didn't mind Annika, but it sucked that she was the only source of company Lyla had.

Lyla was quite envious of Annika actually. Annika pursued her dreams to dance, and she was actually very good at it.

Lyla liked to believe she was a beautiful ballerina as well, but she would never truly know. No one but Landon knew about her passion for dance. Lyla could never tell her family, they would find it pathetic.

She truly did love her family, but they wouldn't understand. Her mother would pretend to be interested but would deep down believe it was just a pass time. Her father wouldn't know what to say, and her brothers would just laugh at her.

"Lyla!" Annika squeals, brushing her hands down her purple dress, "I have an idea."

Lyla rolls her eyes, "I don't want to hear any more of your ideas."

Annika sighs playfully, "It's a good one I promise."

Lyla knew to never trust Anni's promises again. She couldn't believe her eyes as she stood at a Royal Elite party. She knew Annika went here now, but she still felt like she wasn't supposed to be here.
She knew she wasn't welcome here, not anymore.

Annika dragged Lyla through the crowd, Lyla stumbling on her black flats. She had on a long light blue dress. She blushed when she noticed all of Annika's friends staring at them expectantly.

Lyla had never actually met any of them. When Lyla was friends with Landon, no body knew about it.

"This is Lyla Carson." Annika smiles, pulling Lyla out from behind her.

Lyla smiled at them all, trying to seem friendly, she wasn't very good at making friends, she had no options usually.

Most of them gave her a welcoming smile, but the one that stuck out to her the most was Glyndon King. Not due to her kindness, but due to the fact that she looked just like Landon.

Glyndon was the same age as Lyla, but she reminded Lyla of Landon. The same dark brown hair, and the deep blue eyes.

Lyla frowned, taking a step back from her, not that Glyndon even noticed. She told Annika she needed some water, and she wandered away.

Lyla rushed toward the door, needing fresh air. She didn't think it would affect her as much as it did, but she could feel his presence everywhere.

She stumbled onto the balcony, the cold december air whipping against her flushed face.

She sucked in a deep breath. Her arms shook against the breeze.

She needed to calm down, she couldn't have another freak out here.

A footstep started Lyla, she turned her head so quickly it hurt her neck. There was no one there, she furrowed her eyebrows.

She moved to go back inside but before her hand could touch the door, a strong arm had put her in a headlock.

She couldn't tell who it was by appearance, but the familiar smell of minty musk gave it away. She squirmed against him, nervously.

Landon chuckled lowly, "Following me again?"

Lyla blushed despite the fact that he couldn't see her. Right after he had ended things, she tried to see him, but he practically slammed the door on her face.

"I don't ever want to see you again." She swallowed a lump in her throat, trying and failing to slam her elbow into his stomach.

He loosened his hold on her neck a bit, "Why are you here?"

She shrugs bitterly, slipping out of his relaxed grip.

"You're leaving now." He warns, getting closer to her face.

She clenches her jaw as he leans down to talk to her as if she was a child, "You don't have the right to tell me what to do."

"It's my party little dancer." He whispers, shoving her away from him.

She glares up at him, but doesn't say anything. He was the leader of the Royal Elites, and she was crashing his party.

"Go to hell." Lyla mutters as she storms inside, not sparing him another glance.

His lips quirk into an amused smirk, "I'm already there."

Lyla breathes heavily as she looks for Annika, just wanting to get the hell out of here.

"Lyla?" Annika's voice comes into sound, and Lyla lets out a sigh of relief.

"We need to go." Lyla mumbles, grabbing her hand.

Annika's brows furrow, "We just got here."

Lyla just mutters under her breath, most likely sounding crazy.

Annika seems to realize something was wrong, so she nods and pulls Lyla along.

Lyla's steps are slowed as she stumbles to the car, looking around frantically.

Annika yells at her to get in, but Lyla is still looking around.

She stops when she sees two familiar blue eyes staring back, they're narrowed. But when she notices the threatening smirk on Landon's face, she feels a shiver go down her body.

As they drive back to the dorms, Lyla's eyes are clenched shut. The encounter between her and Landon shook her up, more than she wanted to admit.

All of the old feelings rushed through her. Love, confusion, betrayal, hatred. She couldn't deny the way her heart beat a little faster when he held her in his arms.

She hated him, so much. But a small part of her wanted her Landon back.
