Nalini's POV
As I played, the music seemed to draw us closer together, wrapping us in its emotional embrace. Each note felt like it was speaking directly to him, creating a bridge between us. I couldn’t help but glance up occasionally, meeting his eyes and finding a warmth there that made my heart race.
When the final note lingered in the air and the room fell into silence, I looked at him, hoping he felt the same connection I did. “I didn’t expect to find someone who understands music the way you do,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
He smiled, and it felt like the sun breaking through clouds. “And I didn’t expect to meet someone whose playing could move me so deeply.”
His words made me feel seen in a way I hadn’t before. “I think we’ve both found what we were looking for tonight.”
There was a sincerity in his gaze that reassured me. “Yes, it seems so. There’s something special about this moment, isn’t there?”
“Definitely,” I agreed. “It’s rare to find someone who appreciates the little things.”
We sat in silence, the intimacy of the moment settling around us. I could feel the weight of his gaze as I traced the edge of my violin case, lost in thought. Then, a question I’d been holding back surfaced. “Can I ask you something?”
He looked at me, curiosity in his eyes. “Of course.”
“Why were you looking at me yesterday?” I asked, trying to sound casual but unable to mask the hint of vulnerability in my voice.
His expression shifted, a mixture of surprise and thoughtfulness. “I guess I was just drawn to you. There was something about you—about the way you carried yourself—that intrigued me.”
My heart skipped a beat. “Intrigued you? Why?”
He shrugged slightly, a thoughtful look on his face. “I’m not entirely sure. There was just something different, something that made me want to get to know you.”
I nodded, feeling a blend of relief and curiosity. “That’s... good to know. I felt a connection, too, but I wasn’t sure if it was just my imagination.”
He reached out and gently touched my hand. “I’m glad it wasn’t just your imagination.”
I felt a rush of warmth at his touch, and I smiled, trying to steady my emotions. “Would you like to hear more music? I could play something else, if you’d like.”
His eyes lit up. “I’d love that. But only if you’re up for it.”
I nodded, feeling a sense of joy. “I’d be glad to. It’s nice to share this with someone who seems to understand.”
As I began to play again, the music flowed between us, weaving a tapestry of connection. Each note was infused with the emotions I couldn’t always express in words. I watched him as he closed his eyes, letting the melody envelop him, and I wondered what he was thinking.
When the music finally came to an end, he looked at me with admiration. “Your music has a way of making everything feel more vivid. It’s like seeing the world in a different light.”
His compliment made me blush, and I could feel my heart swelling with happiness. “Thank you. That means a lot coming from you.”
We continued to talk and laugh, the conversation flowing easily and naturally. I found myself opening up in ways I hadn’t expected, sharing thoughts and feelings that had been locked away.
As the night grew late, I reluctantly set the violin aside. “It’s getting late,” he said softly, and I felt a pang of regret.
“Yes, it is,” I replied, trying to hide my disappointment. “But I’m glad we had this time together.”
