Lilac was abruptly woken from her slumber by the blinding light of the sun being shone on her face upon the window being opened by her mother. She sleepily forced her eyes open just enough to see her general surroundings. “Good morning love! I’ve cooked breakfast so it’s time to wake up!” Her mother exclaimed with too much energy for it being only 9 AM. Lilac sits up slowly and tries to adjust to the bright sunlight and the strong smell of bacon and slightly over cooked eggs. “What time is it….?” Lilac asked in a quiet and hoarse voice, still very groggy and unable to match her mothers early morning energy. “It’s…….. I’m not sure… 9:45 I think.” Her mother replied, waiting for her daughter to step out from under her blankets to go eat breakfast. After standing up and rubbing her eyes, Lilac follows her mother into the dining room and takes a seat at the table. Her father comes by and gracefully sets down the 3 plates of food for everyone. Lilac stares at her plate patiently awaiting her father to sit down so she can eat, only to be greeted by the annoying sight of him doing the dishes. With this she begins eating without waiting for him, she doesn’t want to wait for him to finish the dishes, she just wants to eat as fast as she can so she could visit the flower field. Her mother glares at her as she hastily eats her breakfast, “It’s disrespectful to eat before everyone is ready you know?” Her mother claims in an annoying lighthearted tone, Lilac doesn’t seem to get the point though and continues regardless. Her mother rolls her eyes and motions her husbands to come eat with them. “I’ll do the dishes later, come eat honey.” Her mother says softly. Her father then proceeds to place the plate he was holding on the counter and sits at the table, and begins eating his food.
By the time Lilac's parents had gotten halfway through their dishes, she had already finished and was actively rinsing her plate and putting it in the sink. Her parents watched her as she pulled her shoes on and grabbed her small camera, a model from around 2005 that was found in her parents storage that she claimed as her own when they told her nobody planned on using it. She takes endless photos of flowers which shocks her parents because the camera hasn’t notified them about lack of storage.
Lilac walks down the road calmly, the small town already full of people walking or biking to work, along with young children running up and down streets and throwing balls around on the small driveways. Some younger kids also proceeded to wave at Lilac while trying to attract her attention for another player for their games, which she refused to acknowledge and continued walking. It was a bit rude but she was more interested in her own objective rather than playing with kids who weren’t her age. As she wandered down the hill to the massive field, the flowers shimmered brightly, it hurt her eyes but it felt normal for how much she visited this field. The flowers could only be described as ethereal and unreal. They appeared with a few layers of petals, the larger petals resembling purple-ish pearls, and the smaller petals resembling purple stained glass with a poly texture. Everything about these flowers seemed like something out of a crazy fairytale. Lilac pulled out her camera and began to try and get a perfect angle, trying to get the sun to reflect through the clear petals and get a perfect lense flare. She snaps a few photos and admires her work.
She looks at the flowers again and begins to stare blankly at them, they were coaxing her… tempting her, it almost felt like they were possessively lifting her hand and forcing it to reach toward them. She wanted to pick them. Take them home. But the only thing that stopped her was that she knew it wasn’t worth it, it would likely wilt or  die within a few days. She crouched down, cradled one in her hand before standing once more and walking further into the field, taking special care not to step upon the flowers.
After walking for a while, she felt quite bored, so she started to walk back.
The cool breeze slowly becoming warmer as the day progressed. She had walked through that field for a little over 20 minutes, yet it felt comfortably eternal. When she returned home, her mother greeted her while sitting on the living room couch. Lilac waved and quickly removed her shoes before returning to her room. She sits at her desk and begins reading a book about different types of flowers and their biology. She searched through the book thoroughly quite a lot, although she hasn’t found anything regarding the flowers surrounding her town. She’s quite smart for her age, but it hasn’t crossed her mind that perhaps this flower species has more to it than a document or a history…
The rest of her day consisted of boredom and searching online on her.. less than ideal computer… and in her book. At about midnight, her mother came to her room and told her it was time for bed, which Lilac nodded in response to and got up from her desk and got into her bed. “Is everything okay? You hide out in your room a lot and barely speak….. Do you ever want to hurt yourself? Or have any bad thoughts???” Her mother asked, with much concern for her child. Lilac just started at her puzzled. “i just have my own interests….. I don’t see the problem with that.” Lilac spoke with a low volume. Her mother stared with worry in her eyes, Lilac stared back without showing a single bit of emotion. “Are you sure?” Her mother asked. Lilac rolled her eyes playfully. “Mom, don’t worry, I just have a lot of focus on my interests right now…” Lilac replied. Her mother smiled and nodded before kissing her forehead. “Goodnight Lilac.” She said sweetly before leaving the room. “Goodnight mom.” Lilac replied before her mother got too far from the room.
Her thoughts raced, she wanted to figure out these flowers so desperately but she couldn’t. Something was so unique and special about them. So much so that people haven’t even documented them. The flowers. Those crystal-like flowers that…. That she so desperately wanted to pick for some odd reason… they don’t deserve to be picked from their home. Yet she wanted to do so. constantly. Why was this? Eventually she fell into a deep slumber, it happened so suddenly as well. Endless thoughts and then she was asleep.
Upon entering her slumber she was met with a dark room. With nothing but a wooden table that was wonderfully carved with intricate details, and a stool with black steel legs and red leather padding on top. In the distance she could see a tall, lengthy, and skinny figure. She couldn’t see who it was but something about them felt deeply unsettling. Were they walking? They were approaching. They were walking towards Lilac ever so slowly. They intend to do something to her, she could feel it. The vibe they gave off was like that of a demon that a girl her age would have nightmares about. The racing thoughts and feelings about this strange feeling distracted her from its movement. Before she knew it, a bony hand reached at her with nails much like claws. However, she abruptly awoke before it could touch her.
Lilac quickly glanced around the room in confusion. It was humid and she felt like she was melting in sweat. She throws her blanket off to cool down and then sits up.
After a while she gets up, and looks in her mirror. She stares. She knows something is off. Markings on her face, like something clawed at her. They weren’t too visible, more of a scrape than anything. But it was still oddly concerning.
She knows this probably has something to do with her nightmare. She knows she had a bad dream, however she can’t seem to remember any of it. After trying to recollect what she had dreamt about for over 5 minutes, she eventually gave up upon hearing her parents' bed sheets rustling, indicating their awakening to start the day.
She gets up from her desk and exits her room to get her day started, planning to ignore those previous events for now.
