This story starts a few years ago, well, aeons depending on who you asked. fourteen-year-old Y/n Allen sat on the couch and paged through his book, he was reading a detective novel that he had picked up from the library and when it was said that he paged through the book it was meant to be taken literally, Y/n would spend ten to fifteen seconds on the two pages before paging to the next one.

Barry and their mom were busy talking about some bullies that picked on Barry and Y/n didn't want to get involved so instead, he just listened to their mom explain to his brother that he was the real winner because of his choices and whatnot but Y/n disagreed, closing his book and grabbing his fourth one for the day, opening it and started reading.

"Y/n, why don't you and Barry spend some time together?" Nora asked as she smiled at her oldest son. Y/n looked at his mother from over his book before letting out a sigh and looking at Barry, standing up and putting his book down. "Oh, Y/n, did you get any news yet?"

The older sibling let out a groan before looking at his mom. "Metropolis University has reviewed my paper and they are considering an early admission," Y/n muttered, watching his mother suddenly get excited, clapping her hands in front of her face. "And no, I didn't tell you because this was the reaction I knew you were going to have..." He answered his mother before she could even ask her question, watching her cock her head to the side, opening her mouth to say something else. "No, I'm not getting smart, and no, I don't think that any university in this town could match Metropolis so I will not be reconsidering it," He added as he walked past her, placing his hand on Barry's shoulder and guiding him to the door. "And yes, I will tell you and Dad when I get the letter to come visit them," He added, glancing over his shoulder before guiding his brother out their front door.

Y/n had been visiting his family for his break this year. Fifteen-year-old Y/n inspected his room, they hadn't changed anything since he left for college, his posters of formulas and his designs still hung on the walls while his desk had books on physics and quantum mechanics.

Y/n had finished having dinner with his family and was currently going over some work he had to get done before heading to bed. "Hey, Champ," A voice called out from the door and Y/n looked up to find Henry Allen standing there.

"Hey, Dad," Y/n greeted before looking back at his work.

"College work?" Henry asked as he walked into the room.

"No, some personal stuff," He answered before closing one book and opening the next, eyes scanning the page before turning back to the contraption he was working on. "Just some final touches before bed," Y/n added with a sigh.

"No problems, you're a college man now, don't think I can give you a bedtime," Henry joked as he sat on the chair next to the bed and watched his son. "Not that you would listen to it anyway," He added with a chuckle as he picked up one of the books discarded on the bed and looked at the diagrams inside it, eyes squinting and then widening before he shook his head and put the book down again. "What's this?"

"It's just a Core Stabilizer, the rest of the device is back in my dorm," Y/n let out a sigh as he started packing his stuff away. "That's it for the night," He added as he put the stuff on his bedside table and looked at his father. "No, it isn't dangerous and no, it's not a health concern."

"How do you do that?"

"Do what?" Y/n furrowed his brows, eyes twitching back and forth slightly. "Oh, I just figured out what's the most likely thing you are going to say and then respond to that," He answered his father's question, confusing the older man even more, Henry opened his mouth but Y/n nodded. "I get it, it can be a little tiring but you would be surprised at how few possibilities conversations like these can have so creating a scenario for each is simple enough... And no, it doesn't take me too long to do that, it's instantaneous..."
