MONICA ARTHUR

" He dropped my case!, why?! ". I ask on the phone, waking up this morning I was met with a phone call from the police department, the last thing I wanted to be told was that detective Lewis dropped my case.

"I'm not sure Ms. Arthur , I can go get him if you'd like. He would be able to answer these questions better than I can." The man suggested.

While waiting on hold, I place my phone down onto the bathroom counter . The large rectangular mirror before me displays the entire bathroom but out of all the beautiful decor this bathroom has in it only one thing catches my eye, Dominic.

His tall figure on display for my wandering eyes, the black ink stretches across his muscular chest.

" you okay?" . He asks, walking towards me.

"Detective Lewis dropped my case".

"Why?".

"I don't know, that's what I'm waiting to hear". I say pointing down to the phone screen. As time passes I tell Dominic about the last conversation detective Lewis and I had, he understood where I was coming from but as well as where the detective was coming from.

My phone screen suddenly switches from being on hold to another phone call coming in, detective Lewis appearing on the screen.

"Detective Lewis?".

"Monica". He says in a bored tone as if I'm bothering him.

"You dropped my case, why?". I ask, confusion written all over my face. Dominic stands to the side of me waiting to hear his answer as well.

" I'm sorry ". He responds with a dry laugh. "But do you not remember the shit you pulled last time we talked".

"I remember but you're dropping me over a question I asked that's not even fair!". I yelled into the phone. Dominic grabs a hold of my shoulders and start to rub them. The tension in my neck and shoulders begins to loosen.

"No!" He yells. "What's not fair is you running your big ass mouth on shit you don't know about!, what's not fair is trying to get a word out of me when I told you I wouldn't!".

I stand completely dumbfounded, not understanding why the detective was making such a big deal over something so little.

" and I apologized for that! You and I both know after the conversation we had, I didn't call you back or text you once about it but now you're doing this shit to me, that is not fair!".

I take a breath, my emotions are starting to get the best of me.

"You know how scared I was about my case, you can't just drop it!".

"There has not been any activity in your case since the tombstones or attack and the attack barely counts since you told me so late but all this was still how long ago?" He asks.

"Just because there hasn't been any fucking activity doesn't mean nothing can happen, what kind of bullshit is that?!" I yell.

The phone conversation went silent for a minute, Dominic and Monica both thinking the line disconnected until the horn of a car began honking.

" Monica...I've made my decision."

"But-". The phone call is hanging up.

Silence. Silence is all that is heard in the large bathroom. My breathing starts to become heavier than before and I began to hyperventilate, tears cloud my vision and water starts to stream down my face like a fountain.
