Silica had been flying for days. Her malnourished wings felt as if they may explode if she had to fly anymore and her legs were no different. Her arms held her only two eggs, a pale blue one and a pale pink one. Behind her she could hear Java grunting and mumbling about how dumb and risky this flight was.
But Silica knew she had to do this. For her children; they would never survive in the harsh environment of Paradoa, if not being poached by a couple of hungry idiots first. She knew that even if they did manage, they would never be able to bear the weight of starvation, as well as the weight of their unwell father, who had gone crazy after years of endless hunger and little food.
Java finally managed to catch up with Silica and said, "Are you sure you should be doing this? The only dragonets you'll ever have?" her face told Silica that this wasn't a good idea, and she knew that, but she persisted nonetheless.
"I can't just leave them in that place," She said, getting strange energy just thinking about it. "You know how corrupt that place has made Vintage. He'll never be the same again."
"How did he even get like that anyways?" Java started but dropped the subject after she saw the glare Silica had flashed her. "Even if you have to do this, why did you make me come with you?"
Silica didn't have time to think about her previous actions, but it wasn't like she didn't have the time. She just didn't want to think about it. "You're trustworthy. If I die, you're strong enough to spread the word. If dragons really care." That wasn't really why, though. She liked Java; she was the only thing she had left after Vintage went crazy.
Silica could now smell the salty, pungent, seaweed smell of the ocean and she knew they were close. She pushed her wings to go as fast as she could and finally, her talons felt the gritty sand she was looking for. She quickly put her eggs down into the water, praying they get to their destination safely.
Java landed beside her, not even looking remotely tired. "Are you sure you want to send your, I cannot stress hard enough, only dragonets out to sea?"
Silica nodded slowly as if she was also questioning herself. But that was fine. They were gone now. That's all that mattered. She flopped down into the chilly sand, soothing the aching in her joints and her brain.
I did it. I know that they will never forgive me for what I have done, but it doesn't matter.
They're safe now.
