[Elijan Montague's Point of View]

I massaged my temples as I sat on my swivel chair trying to alleviate the pounding headache that was beginning to form. Is there even a person who don't have any social media profile nowadays?

As I lifted my head, my breath caught in my throat. Standing in the office doorway was Khan. Her presence is as unexpected as a ghost. She's staring at me intensely.

A wave of panic washed over me. Did she saw me rummaging through her desk? My heart raced as I tried to compose myself.

"What do you want?" I managed to blurt out as she continued staring at me.

She leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed. "Looking for my secret lair, huh?" Her voice was dripping with sarcasm. "Did you find out how I kidnapped beggars and secretly harvested their organs?"

I was speechless. Her words were absurd, but the way she said them sent a shiver down my spine. There's no way she could be serious, but her expression says otherwise.

She laughed. A high-pitched, almost hysterical sound. "You should have seen your face," she said as she wiped a tear from her eye.

Before I could respond, Dr. Chua walked into the office. The transformation on Khan's face was instantaneous. Her manic laughter vanished and was instantly replaced by a sweet and innocent smile. What the?

She turned to him with her voice so soft and gentle. "Good morning, Dr. Chua," she said with her eyes sparkling.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. One moment she was a cold, and the next she was a sweet and harmless colleague. It was like watching a chameleon change color.

I was utterly baffled. Who was this woman, really? And what was her game?

"Good morning, Dr. Khan," Dr Chua beamed as he approached her. His approval of the new arrangement is evident on his smiling face.

Khan, the chameleon, offered him a bright smile. "I love the office, Dr. Chua," she said with her voice dripping with sweetness. "And I think I'm getting along just fine with Dr. Montague here," she glanced at me as she showed me her sweet smile. A fake one. I couldn't believe the audacity of this woman. She was playing me like a fiddle.

"Sweet! I didn't expect you two to click sooner knowing that Dr. Montague here is egoistic as ever. But I'm sure he's willing to learn a lot from you in the future," the old man smiled at me too. Tsk.

I just sat there as a response with my jaw clenched. Dr. Chua transitioned to praising the new arrangement as he walked around. They talked and exchanged sweet words as the old man examined the room.

As soon as Dr. Chua left, Khan's demeanor changed instantly. The sweet smile vanished and was replaced by a cold and calculating expression. She walked towards me with her steps deliberate.

"Stay out of my desk and mind your own business," she said with her voice low and menacing. So she really did saw me rummage her desk? What a fool, Elijan.

I retorted, "I think I'm the one who should be setting the rules here."

She laughed, a short, mirthless sound. "Oh, please. Let's not pretend you're in charge here."

I was about to retort when she reached out and placed her hand on my shoulder. I stiffened, my body reacted instinctively to her touch.

"Listen," she said with her voice softer now, "I'm not here to make enemies. But I won't tolerate any interference. Got it?" she warned me.

Before I could respond, she turned and walked out of the office. I was left alone with my thoughts, feeling like a defeated chess player.

Just as I was beginning to calm down, I heard the familiar sound of my sister's voice. She burst into the office with her eyes wide with curiosity.
