Aidan sighed sitting at the detective agency desk he had come accustomed to. His ears softly flicked as he flipped through pages. Half humans were fairly accepted... And they accepted humans but something about the recent case pop up. Ryuichi... A man who came all the way from an island in Japan just to kill humans... why? He thought to himself. The sound of footsteps echoed through the otherwise quiet office. Aidan looked up from his paperwork and was met by the sight of his grizzled senior detective, Harrison, entering the room. "Knight... I have a new assignment for you," Harrison said gruffly, a folder in hand. Aidan perked up, setting the paperwork aside. "A new assignment, sir?" he asked, his tail twitching with curiosity. "Yes," Harrison grunted, tossing the folder onto Aidan's desk. "We've received reports of a series of murders in the city. All victims were killed in an identical fashion... and all of them were human." "Your referring to the Ryuichi case yes? I overheard some gossip if you will." Aidan spoke up as his ears flicked. Harrison raised an eyebrow. "Ah, so you've heard of him," he said, his tone slightly impressed. "Yes, I'm talking about the Ryuichi case. He's been leaving a trail of dead bodies all over the city. And the way he kills... it's like nothing I've ever seen before. No matter who we send after him, he always manages to slip away." Aidan leaned back in his chair and ran a hand through his hair, his feline ears twitching with thought. "Do we have any idea why he's targeting humans specifically?" he asked. "We have some theories," Harrison said. "But nothing concrete. Some people think he's got a personal grudge against humanity, others think he's just a thrill-killer. But one thing's for sure, he's a dangerous man and needs to be taken down before he causes any more damage." Aidan nodded, his eyes narrowing in determination. "I'll take the case," he said firmly. "I'll track him down and bring him to justice." Harrison studied Aidan for a moment, then let out a gruff chuckle. "I knew you'd say that," he said. "Just be careful, Knight. This guy's not like the petty criminals you're used to dealing with." Aidan smirked. "I can handle myself," he said. "Don't worry, sir. I won't let you down." "I know you won't," Harrison said, a hint of pride in his voice. "Just keep me updated on your progress, and try not to do anything stupid." Aidan walked down the bustling streets of the city, his ears flicking at the sounds of people talking and cars zooming by. The city was alive, but beneath its surface, a dangerous killer prowled. As he walked, his thoughts were consumed by the case, and his mind raced with theories and possibilities. He pulled out his notepad looking over the information he had provided to him. "Music fan huh... Might have to check some of the clubs and bars..." He muttered. Aidan knew that if he wanted to find out more about Ryuichi, the night life would be the best place to start. The killer enjoyed hunting in the late hours of the night, so it was likely that he also enjoyed going to the clubs and bars during those times. Armed with this information, Aidan started making his way towards the city's entertainment district. It was already late in the evening, and the lights and sounds of the clubs and bars echoed through the streets. He began walking towards the nearest club, his steps light and cautious. He could hear the loud music already from outside, and as he pushed open the door, he was hit with a wave of noise and flashing lights. Aidan entered the club, his eyes darting quickly around the room as he scanned the crowd. The dance floor was packed with people moving to the music, and the scent of alcohol and sweat filled the air. He made his way to the bar, and took a seat, trying to appear casual and non-threatening. A fairly large half human who seemed to have canine genes sat himself down at the bar with his buddies busting out laughing at Aidan's appearance. "Little kitten are you lost?" the man snarled. Aidan tensed up, his ears pinning flat against his head at the taunt. He wasn't fond of being called a "little kitten" but he knew he had to play along. "No, I'm not lost," he replied with a cool tone. "Just here to enjoy the night." The half canine man chuckled at Aidan's reaction, his buddies joining in. "Enjoying the night, huh?" he said with a smirk. "Or are you here looking for someone?" Aidan feigned nonchalance. "Maybe I am," he said, keeping his voice casual. "What business is it of yours?" The half canine man leaned in closer, his eyes narrowed. "My business is that I don't like half human pussies- in my territory," he growled. "Especially ones like you, who think they can waltz in here and act all tough." Aidan could feel his pulse quickening, his hackles rising with irritation. He didn't like that the man was talking down to him, but he knew he couldn't afford to start a fight, not here at least. "You should scram putty tat-" The man continued before a sharp gruff tone made him pause. "oroka na onna..." Ryuichi purred waltzing his way right over at the canine man. "Is that anyway to speak Richie.?" The half canine man, Richie, bristled at Ryuichi's sudden appearance. "Yeah, what's it to you, freak," he sneered. "We were just having a little conversation here." Ryuichi chuckled, his voice silky smooth and dangerous. "Oh really? And what kind of conversation might that be?" He leaned against the bar, fixing Richie with a cold glare. Richie glanced at his friends, who suddenly seemed uncomfortable and looked away. "Just talking about how we don't like unwelcome guests in our territory," Richie grumbled. Ryuichi raised an eyebrow, a sly half smile playing at his lips. "I see," he said, stepping closer to Richie. "And who exactly is considered an unwelcome guest to you and your little friends here?" Richie puffed out his chest, trying to look tough. "We don't allow lowlifes in this club," he sneered. "And that includes freaks Ryuichi's ears flicked as his tail fluffed up letting out a low hiss. Richie chuckled at Ryuichi's reaction, thinking he had found a way to rile up the cat half human. "What's wrong freak? Hit too close to home did I?" he taunted. "You sound like the humans..." Ryuichi muttered with venom laced over every word. Richie's expression tightened in annoyance at the mention of humans. "And what's that supposed to mean?" he snapped. "You got a problem with humans or something?" Ryuichi's voice lowered to a dangerous rumble. "Let's just say I have a bit of... personal beef with humans," he sneered. "And I don't take kindly to being treated the way they have treated me." Richie raised an eyebrow, slightly intrigued by Ryuichi's words. "So...you're some kind of human hater huh?" he asked, his tone more curious than hostile now. Aidan was also listening intently, his ears perked up and his pen moving furiously across the page of his notepad. He was taking in every word of the conversation, filing it away for further analysis later. Ryuichi leaned against the bar, his tail flicking agitatedly. "You could say that," he replied, his voice cold and calculating. "Humans are weak and worthless. They're nothing but a plague on this world." Richie's mates shifted uncomfortably, the atmosphere tensing up around them. But Richie himself seemed more interested than threatened by Ryuichi's words. "So what, you some sort of avenging angel for us half humans?" he asked, a hint of sarcasm in his tone. Ryuichi chuckled darkly. "Hardly," he said. "I'm just someone who believes that humans should get a taste of their own medicine. They think they're so superior, so perfect, but they're not." He bared his sharp fangs in a mocking smile. "I enjoy showing them their place in the food chain." Richie's eyes narrowed in thought. He could sense the genuine hatred and anger in Ryuichi's words, and it made him wary. "So what are you doing here then? Looking for your next target?" Aiden's ears flicked a bit as he listened in silently sipping his drink. Ryuichi gave a low, cruel laugh. "Something like that," he admitted. "I have my eyes on a few... candidates, shall we say. Humans who think they're untouchable, and who need to be put in their place." "Big boy Ryuichi going after the big leagues-" A fairly large half human spoke up walking up at the group. His polar bear like ears flattened as he grinned flexing his arm muscles. "If you're going after some big targets i might have a few suggestions. Starting with the human only police departments." Steel deeply gruffed to them. Ryuichi chuckled darkly, his eyes gleaming with interest. "Oh? You have some targets in mind, do you?" he purred, leaning against the bar. "Do tell, I'm always on the lookout for new... prey." Steel smirked, his ears perking up proudly. "Of course I do," he said arrogantly. "Been watching those damn humans for years, and I know just who the most deserving targets are." "Not sure what Steel hates more- humans or Americans ya damn commy-" Richie laughed amused. Steel's ears twitched in irritation at Richie's jab. "Shut up, mutt," he snapped. "I don't tolerate insults like that." Richie barked a laugh, clearly enjoying getting under Steel's skin. "What, can't handle the truth? I thought you commies were supposed to be thick skinned." Steel's face twisted in anger at Richie's mocking tone. "Watch your tongue, dog," he growled through clenched teeth. "You don't know what you're talking about." "Both of you zip it-" Ryuichi hissed irritably. "What time is it Rich...." Ryuichi coldly gestured his hand. Richie grumbled and pulled out his smartphone, glancing at the time. "Almost midnight..." he replied, his tone a bit subdued. "I got a reservation. Must be off- this cat won't get sashimi if i don't. Steel text me those addresses... We will be in touch my icy friend." Ryuichi nonchalantly ordered heading for the door only to bump Aiden a bit who tried to stand up to go to the bathroom to record his findings. Aiden's ears flattened as his tail grew spiky and fluffed. "S-sorry-" Aiden stammered clenching his notepad. Ryuichi glanced down at Aidan, noting his ears and tail standing on high alert. He smirked, amused by the young cat half human's nervous demeanor. "No worries, my feline friend," he said casually, his voice smooth and velvety. "Just watch where you're going next time." Aiden's lavender eyes met Ryuichi's cold bright blue eyes a brief second as he nodded before collecting himself when Ryuichi moved on forward. Aidan let out a shaky breath as Ryuichi left the club, his heart still racing from the encounter. He had just witnessed a deadly killer up close, and somehow had managed to survive the interaction. He glanced down at his notes, his mind racing with thoughts and theories. He knew now that he had a lead, and he was determined to follow it. Aidan quickly paid his tab and exited the club. He didn't want to risk running into Ryuichi again, not with the killer's sharp senses and keen instincts. As he walked down the street, his mind replayed the conversation he overheard between Ryuichi and the half canine men. It was clear that Ryuichi had a deep seeded hatred for humans, and was targeting them specifically. Aiden's ears perked up as he processed the information. A Japanese restaurant? It made sense considering Ryuichi's Japanese heritage, and the fact that he was looking for sashimi. Aidan decided to try and narrow down some possible locations that fit the bill. He knew that with some research, he could possibly find out where Ryuichi was headed. Aiden knew that his search would likely take him through some of the city's more affluent neighborhoods, where many high-end Japanese restaurants were located. He pulled out his phone and began to browse through different listings and reviews, trying to find any information that could lead him to Ryuichi. As he scrolled through the various options, one particular restaurant caught his eye. It was known for its extensive selection of sashimi and fresh seafood, and was located in a high-end part of town. Its name was Kiku. Aidan's heart skipped a beat. Could this be the place where Ryuichi was headed? There was only one way to find out. Aiden quickly began to make his way towards the location of the restaurant, his heart pounding in his chest. He had a feeling that Ryuichi would be there, and he couldn't shake the sense of dread that accompanied the idea of encountering the dangerous killer again. He kept his eyes peeled as he walked, scanning the streets for any sign of Ryuichi or any suspicious activity. As he moved through the streets sheepishly his heart sank to his stomach getting a cold chill down his spine when his hand touched the restaurants handle when a familiar voice hummed from behind him. "Didn't know you enjoyed the finer things kitten- ?" Ryuichi chimed up. Aiden froze, his ears pricking up as he recognized the voice behind him. He slowly turned around, his heart racing and his stomach in knots. Standing before him was Ryuichi, the dangerous killer he had been trying to find. Aidan swallowed hard, trying to keep his voice steady as he spoke. "S-sashimi..." he managed to say, his voice barely above a whisper. Ryuichi chuckled lowly, his eyes narrowed in amusement. "Sashimi? Is that why you're here, little cat?" he asked, his voice smooth and sly. "Looking for some fish, perchance?" "Why don't you come sit with me yeah?" His head tilted a bit amused as his tail swayed as he walked. Aidan felt a shiver of unease run down his spine as Ryuichi invited him to sit. But he knew he couldn't refuse, not without making himself look suspicious. Aidan cautiously followed Ryuichi into the restaurant, his eyes darting nervously around the room. The restaurant was upscale and elegant, with traditional Japanese decor and low lighting. The smell of sushi and seafood filled the air. Ryuichi led them to a secluded booth in the corner, tucked away from prying eyes. He slid into the booth, gesturing for Aidan to sit across from him. Aidan perched on the edge of the seat, his senses on high alert. He was painfully aware of Ryuichi's presence and the fact that they were now alone together. "Relax." Ryuichi chuckled, noticing Aidan's tense demeanor. "You look like you're about to jump out of your skin." Aidan took a deep breath and tried to relax, but his heart was still racing and his nerves were frayed. He fidgeted with his shirt, trying to focus on something other than the dangerous killer sitting opposite him. "This place, Divine selection really. Not as good as back home though. But who can beat locally caught right-" Ryuichi laughed deeply his fangs gleaming in the low light. Aidan attempted to keep his cool, despite the fact that Ryuichi's fangs looked almost predatory in the dim light. He tried to focus on the conversation. "Y-yeah," he stuttered. "Fresh fish is always better. Um... where are you from?" Ryuichi leaned back in the booth, taking in Aidan's nervous demeanor. He found the young cat's unease amusing, like a mouse caught in a trap. "Japan born and raised," he replied casually. "Used to catch some of the freshest fish you'll ever taste, right off the coast of Hokkaido when I was younger." Aidan's ears perked up at Ryuichi's mention of Hokkaido. He had spent some time studying different Japanese dialects and regional accents, and he recognized the distinct accent of northern Japan in Ryuichi's voice. "Hokkaido...? Must be some good fishing up there..." He said, trying to keep the conversation going. "Are you here on vacation or... business?" Ryuichi chuckled lowly, his icy blue eyes studying Aidan intently. He seemed to find the cat's attempts at small talk amusing. "A bit of both," he answered cryptically. "Just trying to enjoy some of the finer things this city has to offer before I head back. The food here is just one of the many... perks." "Newyork has much to offer... Bronx zoo for example- such and such-" Ryuichi purred going on a soft rant. Aidan listened intently, trying to keep up with Ryuichi's soft purring rant. The sound was almost soothing, despite the fact that he was sharing a booth with a dangerous killer. He tried to keep his mind on the conversation, trying to glean any information he could. "The... Bronx Zoo...?" he repeated, trying to sound interested. "You- you were born here weren't you-" Ryuichi chimed amused. "You got that that accent- hey- curse at me... just once- tell me to fuck off or somethin-" Ryuichi chanted immaturely a bit. Aidan's eyes widened a bit in surprise at Ryuichi's odd request. He wasn't sure if he should comply or not, but the last thing he wanted was to piss off a dangerous killer. Taking a deep breath, Aidan tried to channel the typical New York attitude. "Uh... screw off," he muttered, his voice low and sheepish. Ryuichi barked a laugh at Aidan's half-hearted attempt at cursing. He leaned across the table, his eyes glittering with amusement. "Oh come on, that was weak," he taunted. "You can do better than that. Let loose, little kitty." Ryuichi's eyes glimmered with an idea ordering beer's for the table. "We need to help you let out the inner beast a bit. You could sound loud and threatening if you tried-" Aidan felt a chill go down his spine at Ryuichi's words. Letting out the inner beast sounded dangerous, especially in the presence of someone as dangerous as Ryuichi. But at the same time, he felt a strange thrill at the idea of letting go, of embracing a more aggressive side. He took a deep breath and attempted something more convincing. "Shut up, prick," he said, his voice gruff and edged with anger. Ryuichi's eyes widened in mock admiration at Aidan's sudden feistiness. He let out a low, satisfied hum. "There we go, much better," he chuckled. "Looks like there's a bit of a wildcat underneath that timid exterior, eh?" "What kinda job you got kid?" Ryuichi mused curiously as their plates were being served. Aidan shifted uncomfortably in his seat as Ryuichi's line of questioning shifted to his own career. He knew he had to tread carefully, especially since he was supposed to be there to gather information on the killer. "I- I'm a junior detective," he managed to say, trying to sound nonchalant. "Just started out a few months ago." "A junior detective, eh?" Ryuichi repeated, his eyes narrowing a bit. He seemed interested in Aidan's profession. "So you must be a fairly young then. How old are you, twenty-two, twenty-three...?" Aidan's heart skipped a beat at the accuracy of Ryuichi's guess. He tried to keep his face neutral, not wanting to give away any more information than necessary. "Twenty-three," he replied cautiously. "Why do you ask?" "Tell me... Do you- actually like your job?" Ryuichi commented as he rose a piece of fish to his lips. Aidan hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to answer. On one hand, he didn't want to give Ryuichi any personal details, but on the other hand, he didn't want to seem too suspicious. "I... I like it well enough," he finally said, trying to keep his tone neutral. "It's challenging and I get to help people, so... yeah." Ryuichi hummed in response, studying Aidan as he chewed his meal. He could sense the unease and hesitation in the young detective's voice, and it intrigued him. "Helping people, eh?" he purred. "How noble of you, little cat." Aidan bristled a bit at Ryuichi's sarcastic tone, but tried to keep his cool. "It's a job, like any other," he said, trying to brush off the comment. "I just happen to enjoy the sense of satisfaction that comes with solving a case and bringing justice to the victims." The second the word victim was said Ryuichi had to suppress a laugh as he ate another bite. Aidan noticed the subtle change in Ryuichi's demeanor when he mentioned victims. He could almost sense the dark amusement in Ryuichi's eyes. It sent a shiver down his spine. "What's so funny..." Aidan prodded, the unease in his voice becoming more obvious. Ryuichi chuckled darkly, his cold eyes meeting Aidan's. "Just the irony of it all," he said, his tone low and menacing. "You, a junior detective, dedicated to helping the victims, sitting across from a killer like me. It makes for an interesting conversation, don't you think?" Before Aiden could speak he was cut off. "I saw the badge horribly hidden on your pants belt and who carries a note pad casually to the bar..." Ryuichi deadpanned gesturing for an answer clearly mocking him. Aidan's heart dropped to his stomach as Ryuichi called him out. He had been careless, too focused on their conversation to remember to conceal his badge and notebook. He stuttered for a moment, his mind racing as he tried to come up with a plausible excuse. "Even cute enough to admit your job with honesty- by the way brownie points. If you think you can take me in, Good luck. If your here to stop me or beg and plead your hippie bullshit save it." Ryuichi spoke condescending. "Oh and eat your meal i paid before hand... don't be more rude than you already are-" Aiden clenched his fists under the table, his anger growing at Ryuichi's patronizing tone. He hated how Ryuichi was mocking him and talking down to him. But he knew he couldn't let his emotions get the better of him. He took a deep breath and tried to compose himself. "I'm not here to take you in," he said firmly. "And I'm not going to beg or plead. I just want to ask you some questions." Ryuichi raised an eyebrow, amused by Aidan's sudden assertiveness. "Questions, eh?" he said, a sly smirk spreading across his lips. "And what kind of questions might those be, Little Detective?" Aidan took a moment to gather his thoughts, trying to remain calm and professional. He knew this was a dangerous situation, and he couldn't afford to mess up. "I want to talk about your victims," he said in a steady voice. "The people you've killed. I want to know why you do it." Ryuichi leaned back in the booth, a lazy smile on his face. He seemed unfazed by Aidan's question, almost as if he was expecting it. "You want to know why?" he repeated, his voice mockingly amused. "Is it to understand me better, little detective? To try and psychoanalyze me?" Aidan nodded. "I want to know what drives someone like you to take innocent lives," he said firmly. "I want to understand the motivations behind your actions." Ryuichi chuckled lowly, his eyes glittering with dark amusement. "Innocent lives, you say?" he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "The people I kill are far from innocent, little cat. They're just as guilty as I am, if not more." Aidan bristled at Ryuichi's words, his ears twitching in annoyance. "Guilty of what?" he asked, his voice edged with anger. "What could they possibly have done to deserve being killed by someone like you?" Ryuichi's cold smile widened as he saw the anger in Aidan's eyes. He was enjoying the effect he was having on the young detective. "They're guilty of being stupid, arrogant, and weak," he said, his tone nonchalant. "They're guilty of underestimating me, thinking they could get the best of me. They're guilty of crossing paths with someone far more powerful than they'll ever be." Ryuichi leaned forward to the table. "They overuse their power.... They hurt and destroy lives... Our lives.... our childrens lives... The requirement of a muzzle kept in schools for half human students who "act feral" what does that even mean- act feral... We are as human as they are-" His tail bristled getting fluffed up. "I saw the voting act about dulling fangs." Ryuichi hissed deeply. Aidan's eyes widened as he heard the anger and passion in Ryuichi's voice. He had never seen the killer so riled up, so passionate about something. "You're talking about the anti-mutant policies," Aidan said cautiously, recognizing the issues that Ryuichi was referring to. "The ones that limit the rights and freedoms of half-humans..." "Limit?" Ryuichi sneered, his eyes blazing with anger. "More like strip us of any freedom and independence. We're treated like animals, like we don't even belong in society. And the worst part is, people just sit back and accept it, like it's normal." "Hey news flash assholes- Humans were once apes- Were all animals!" Ryuichi snapped. Aidan's heart ached as he listened to Ryuichi's outburst. The anger and pain in the killer's voice was undeniable, and it was clear that this issue was something close to his heart. "Yeah," Aidan said quietly, trying to show his support. "We are all animals. We're all the same, despite our differences." "People like them are the reason my family is dead. So screw them. I will take every one of those pompous assholes until they leave us the fuck alone- and i ain't alone..." Ryuichi declared. Aidan felt a shiver run down his spine at Ryuichi's declaration. The killer's words were chilling, but there was a certain fire and determination in his voice that was almost admirable. "You have others who... think like you?" Aidan asked cautiously, curiosity getting the better of him. "Oh, there are plenty of us who share my sentiments," Ryuichi said, a sinister gleam in his eye. "Mutants and half humans who are sick and tired of being treated like second-class citizens. We want justice, and we're not afraid to take it into our own hands." Aidan's mind reeled at the implications of Ryuichi's words. If there were more people like him, people who were willing to resort to violence to fight for their rights, things could get ugly fast. "But violence isn't the answer," Aidan protested, his voice uncertain. "There has to be another way to achieve equality." "You try your way little kitten... But don't cry when the big bad felines come in and fix things with force." Ryuichi spoke coldly. "If you'll excuse me... I have a politician to handle." with that he got up and left leaving Aiden eye wide with confliction and panic. "Wait-" Aidan called after Ryuichi, scrambling to get up from the booth, but the killer was already out the door. Aidan's mind was racing as he sat back down, his heart pounding in his chest. Should he have tried to stop Ryuichi? Should he have followed him? Or should he have stayed and continued his investigation? Aidan's hands trembled as he speed dialed the director, his mind racing with questions and worries. "Come on, pick up, pick up..." he muttered under his breath as he impatiently waited for the director to answer. After what felt like an eternity, the director's voice came through the phone, sounding tired and annoyed. "What is it, kid? I hope you have a good reason for interrupting my beauty sleep..." Aiden swallowed nervously, trying to collect his thoughts. "Sir, I've made some progress on the case," he began. "I've met with the killer, Ryuichi. He's uh... he's a half-human, sir. A Maincoon." The director was silent for a moment, surprise clearly evident in his voice. "...A half-human, you say?" he repeated incredulously. "And you've met with him already? Tell me everything. Don't leave out a single detail." Aiden took a deep breath and proceeded to recount the events of the night, leaving out only a few details that he felt were irrelevant or too personal. He described their initial encounter at the bar, the conversation they had over dinner, and the bombshell revelation of Ryuichi's true nature. "He's not alone, sir," Aiden concluded. "He said there are others who share his sentiments, who are willing to fight for their rights through violence if necessary." The director was silent for a few moments, processing the information. When he spoke again, his voice was tight with concern. "This is bad, kid. Very bad. We can't have a group of vigilantes running around killing politicians. It'll cause chaos and draw too much attention our way... You say he mentioned going to meet another politician right after he left you, yes?" "Yes, sir," Aiden confirmed, feeling a sense of urgency at the director's words. "He said he had a politician to handle, and then he left. I don't know where he was going, or who he was going after." The director swore under his breath, clearly frustrated by the situation. "Alright, listen to me carefully," he said, his voice firm. "You did well to gather this information, but I can't have you out there on your own any longer. You're too close to the killer, and it's too dangerous. I'm sending a team to pick you up and bring you back to headquarters. You'll continue your work from there." "But sir-" Aiden protested, feeling a pang of disappointment. He had been making progress, and he didn't want to be forced to the sidelines now. He wanted to help catch Ryuichi, to make a real dent in the case. "No buts," the director snapped. "Your safety is my main concern, and I don't want you getting involved in something you're not qualified to handle. Besides, you've given me all the information I need to begin my own investigation. Leave it to the professionals, okay?" "Yes, sir," Aiden relented, sighing in defeat. He knew the director was right, but he couldn't help feeling like he was missing out on something important. "I'll be waiting for your team, sir." "Good. Hang tight, and stay safe," the director said firmly. "We'll be over to pick you up shortly." With that, the line went dead, leaving Aiden to wait and wonder what the night would bring. Aiden settled back in his booth, feeling a sense of resignation. He knew he had done his duty in reporting his findings to the director, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he was letting the killer slip through his fingers. He silently cursed himself for not going after Ryuichi or calling for backup when he had the chance. Now all he could do was sit and wait, feeling powerless and frustrated. As soon as Aiden felt the chemical spark jolt through his body, his instincts kicked into high gear. He abruptly stood up and bolted out of the steakhouse, his heart pounding in his chest. He had to find Ryuichi. He had to catch up to him before he could reach his next victim. Aiden's senses were heightened, his vision sharper and his ears more sensitive. He picked up on every sound and scent in the night air as he sprinted down the street, following the direction where Ryuichi had disappeared. He raced through alleys and down side streets, his mind focused solely on catching up to the killer. He knew he was putting himself in danger, but he couldn't stop himself now. He had to keep going, no matter what. Aiden's heart raced as he spotted Ryuichi on the rooftop, swiftly leaping across the buildings. Determined not to lose sight of him, Aiden grit his teeth and grabbed onto a water pipe, clinging to it desperately as he began to climb the side of the building. The climb was harder than he had anticipated, and the smooth surface of the pipe was difficult to grip. But Aiden was determined to catch up to Ryuichi, and he refused to let anything stop him. He pushed himself higher and higher, his mind fixated on the killer in his sights. With a final push, Aiden managed to hoist himself up onto the rooftop, panting heavily and his fingers aching from the effort. He took a moment to catch his breath, glancing around to see where Ryuichi had gone. He spotted the killer not far away, moving gracefully and confidently across the rooftops. Aiden's heart jumped, and he knew he couldn't lose sight of him now. He took off running across the rooftops, following Ryuichi's trail as best as he could. The gap between the two was closing, slowly but surely. Aiden pushed himself to his limits, his muscles burning and his lungs aching as he forced himself to keep moving. He couldn't let Ryuichi get away, not now. Ryuichi seemed to sense Aiden's presence gaining on him, and he glanced over his shoulder with a mixture of surprise and irritation. He muttered something under his breath in a language Aiden didn't understand, but he got the sense that it was something rude. Without missing a beat, Ryuichi picked up his pace, leaping from rooftop to rooftop with lightning speed, his agile form moving with grace and power. Aiden gritted his teeth and pushed himself harder, refusing to let himself fall behind. The gap between them was widening again, and Aiden could feel the adrenaline pumping through his veins as he desperately chased after Ryuichi. He couldn't let the killer out of his sight, not when he was so close to bringing him in. His breathing was labored and his body ached, but he pushed through the pain, determined to catch up. Just a few more rooftops, a few more leaps and strides, and he would have him. Aiden stopped abruptly as he saw Ryuichi pause on the edge of the rooftop, his ears flattening and his tail bristling. The loud hissing and feral growling coming from the killer sent a chill down Aiden's spine. Something was about to go down, and it was not going to be good. Aiden's heart pounded in his chest as he watched Ryuichi, trying to keep a safe distance while staying close enough to keep an eye on him. He could see the anger and tension in the killer's body language, and he knew that he had to be careful in how he approached this situation. His mind raced with possibilities. Should he try to talk the killer down? Or would that only make things worse? Should he draw his weapon? Or would that cause Ryuichi to become more agitated and dangerous? "omae wa baka na no ka ?" Ryuichi muttered furious. As Aiden watched the killer, he heard Ryuichi mutter something under his breath in Japanese. Aiden didn't understand the words, but he could recognize the tone of anger and frustration in Ryuichi's voice. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. "What did you say?" he asked cautiously, slowly inching closer to the killer. Ryuichi's gaze flicked to Aiden, his eyes narrowing in irritation. "You think you can just follow me, huh?" he snarled. "You should've known better than to get involved in my business, little kitten." Aiden felt a shiver run down his spine at the coldness in Ryuichi's voice. He had never seen the killer so openly hostile before, and it was clear that he was not happy about being followed. "You of all of us should understand..." Ryuichi snapped with hatred. Aiden raised an eyebrow, surprised by Ryuichi's sudden outburst. "Understand what?" he asked, his voice laced with caution. Ryuichi huffed in frustration, his ears and tail drooping slightly. "You're half human, aren't you?" he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "You should know firsthand how shitty our lives are being what we are. And yet here you are, chasing after me like a little dog." "We deserve freedom and rights- Why are you being their circus animal-" Ryuichi snarled. Aiden was taken aback by the raw anger in Ryuichi's voice. He could feel the killer's frustration and pain bubbling under the surface, and it tugged at something deep within him. "I...I don't understand," he said hesitantly. "What do you mean by being their circus animal?" "You know exactly what I mean," Ryuichi spat back. "The government, the people in power, they treat us like we're nothing but animals, something to be controlled and used. They take away our freedoms and our rights, and we're just supposed to sit back and accept it. But I won't accept it. I won't let them treat me like a damn circus animal anymore." Aiden's heart sank as he listened to Ryuichi's anguished outburst. He had never considered the depth of the pain and injustice that half-humans faced, and he was beginning to realize that there was a lot more to Ryuichi than just a cold-blooded killer. "But you don't have to resort to violence," Aiden protested, taking another tentative step forward. "There has to be another way to fight for your rights. Something less destructive, less dangerous..." "Don't i... Your with them... I'd run now little kitten..." Ryuichi murmured tilting his head to the side predatory. Aiden's heart skipped a beat at Ryuichi's ominous warning and predatory demeanor. He could feel the killer's eyes boring into him, and he couldn't help but feel a pang of fear. But he couldn't give up now. He had to try to reason with Ryuichi, to make him see that violence was not the answer. "I'm not with them," he replied, trying to keep his voice steady despite the tension in the air. "I'm just trying to do my job," he continued, "to keep people safe. But that doesn't mean I don't understand how you feel. I do. I really do. I know firsthand how difficult it is to be a half-human." Aiden's words seemed to catch Ryuichi off guard, and for a moment, the killer's hostile expression falter. He looked at Aiden suspiciously, as if trying to gauge the truthfulness of his words. "You think you understand," Ryuichi huffed, his irritation returning. "You think that just because you're a half-human, you know how it feels to be treated like a second-class citizen. Like a piece of garbage that can be discarded at a moment's notice." "I heard from the news reporters when they hired ya- What was it... oh yes- you have human parents.... You don't know how i feel- you fucking hypocrite-" Ryuichi snapped before lunging at Aiden engaging the fight first. Aiden's eyes widened in surprise as Ryuichi lunged at him, his reflexes barely allowing him to dodge the killer's attack. He stumbled back, his heart racing as he realized that he was now in for a serious fight. He didn't have much time to dwell on how Ryuichi knew about his background though. The killer was already on the offensive, and Aiden quickly realized that he was outmatched in terms of sheer power. Ryuichi's tail swayed side to side as he swung at Aiden again. "Fight back kitten- for your right to leave this rooftop!" Aiden dodged another attack from Ryuichi, struggling to keep up with the killer's lightning-fast moves. He knew that he was at a disadvantage in terms of strength and experience, but he couldn't just give up. He clenched his teeth and took a deep breath, gathering his wits and summoning all of his strength. He waited for an opening, and then he swiftly countered Ryuichi's attack with a kick to the killer's gut. The kick seemed to catch Ryuichi off-guard, and he let out a grunt of surprise as he stumbled back. But he quickly recovered, his eyes narrowing in anger and determination. "You've got spunk, I'll give you that," he sneered. "But you're still too soft. Too weak." Aiden bristled at Ryuichi's words. He knew that he wasn't as experienced as the killer, but he refused to be seen as weak. He pushed aside the doubts and fears that were trying to creep into his mind, and focused all his energy on defending himself and finding a way to take down Ryuichi. The rooftop became a battleground as the two men clashed. Aiden fought with all his might, dodging attacks and retaliating with every opportunity he could find. He could feel his muscles straining and his breath becoming labored, but he refused to give in. Ryuichi was a formidable opponent, his moves sharp and precise, his gaze cold and calculating. He seemed to know exactly what Aiden was going to do before he even did it, and it was all Aiden could do to keep up. Ryuichi growled deeply snatching ahold of Aiden's shirt collar raising him up. "kawaii koneko." He mused to himself laughing deeply amused. "You really think you can fight back no? nanto iu piero..." His eyes rolled as he laughed to himself loudly. Aiden struggled in Ryuichi's grip, his heart racing as he realized just how much of a disadvantage he was in. The killer had him completely at his mercy, and there was little he could do to free himself. But he refused to show any sign of fear or weakness. He met Ryuichi's laughter with a defiant glare, his teeth clenched tightly. "kowai desu ka ?" Ryuichi muttered mocking his fear with a pout. "Oh ah boo hoo- You afraid?" Aiden's face flushed red in anger and embarrassment at Ryuichi's mocking tone. He knew that the killer was toying with him, but he couldn't help but feel a flicker of fear and helplessness in the face of his situation. He gritted his teeth, determined not to give in to his emotions. "Shut up," he muttered, hating how weak and vulnerable he sounded. A sly smile spread across Ryuichi's face at Aiden's response. The killer seemed to relish in the power he held over Aiden, enjoying the fact that he had reduced the detective to a mess of fear and frustration. "Aww, what's the matter, little kitten?" Ryuichi teased, his hold on Aiden's collar tightening. "Are you regretting your decision to follow me now?" "S-stop fuckin calling me that-" Aiden hissed trying to stand up for himself as i felt his lips swelling from where Ryuichi had punched him. Ryuichi chuckled darkly, clearly enjoying the effect his words and actions were having on Aiden. "Why should I? You look adorable when you're mad." Aiden's cheeks flushed with anger and humiliation at Ryuichi's mocking tone. He could feel the sting of the killer's punch on his lips, and it only fueled his anger further. "You're just a weak little half-human," Ryuichi taunted, his grip on Aiden's collar tightening even more as he pulled him closer. "You can't even defend yourself against me. How pathetic." "When will you realize i am superior... I will get my way- I get what i want!" Ryuichi snapped viciously into Aiden's face leaning closer he held Aiden close to himself to mock him more. "Poor little kitty... So scared... So fragile- What will the baby kitty do-" Ryuichi softly mocked every word aimed to rip at Aiden's pride. Aiden's teeth clenched tightly as Ryuichi continued to taunt him, his every word like a dagger to his heart. The killer knew exactly how to dig at his pride and make him feel small and powerless. He knew that Ryuichi was right - that he was no match for the killer physically, no matter how much he wanted to deny it. But the thought of giving in to the killer's superiority and mockery was unacceptable. Ryuichi started to laugh louder and louder into Aiden's face only for a surprise of Aiden lashing out clawing Ryuichi's cheek causing him to drop Aiden reeling back. Aiden stumbled back as Ryuichi let go of him, his heart racing. He hadn't expected his attack to have such an effect on the killer, but it was clear that he had caught him off-guard. Ryuichi's hand flew up to his cheek, his eyes wide with surprise as he felt the blood trailing down his face. He looked at Aiden, an mix of shock and anger in his eyes. "You little-" he growled, his voice filled with a mixture of anger and pain. He took a step towards Aiden, his hand still pressed against his wounded cheek. Aiden's heart pounded in his chest as he braced himself for Ryuichi's next move. He knew that he had gone too far, had let his emotions get the better of him. But he also knew that he couldn't back down now. He had to stay strong, even if it meant facing the killer's wrath. Ryuichi's eyes were burning with anger as he advanced on Aiden again. "You think you can just scratch me like that and get away with it?" he snarled, his voice laced with menace. "You're going to regret that, little kitten." Aiden took a step back as Ryuichi approached, his heart racing. He swallowed hard, trying to keep his fear at bay as he prepared for the killer's next attack. Ryuichi lunged at Aiden again, his movements quicker and more aggressive than before. Aiden tried to dodge, but he wasn't fast enough. The killer's fist connected with his stomach, knocking the wind out of him and sending him sprawling to the ground. Aiden panicked a bit and shuffled to get up pushing his legs up when Ryuichi came at him again kicking roughly into his stomach sending Ryuichi off the rooftop. Aiden watched in horrified shock as Ryuichi was sent sprawling off the rooftop, his body falling out of sight. For a moment, he couldn't believe what had just happened. He had actually pushed the killer off the rooftop. When Aiden scrambled to the edge of the rooftop to see if Ryuichi hit the ground he was greeted to the sight of Ryuichi getting himself down safely before hissing up at him. "I will be back- I will bring my friends... This isn't over little detective-" Ryuichi warned before taking off. Aiden felt a chill run down his spine as he watched Ryuichi disappear into the night. The killer's threat echoed in his ears, and he knew that he hadn't seen the last of him. He had only made things worse by fighting back, and he couldn't shake the feeling that Ryuichi would be back soon, with reinforcements. After a good ten minutes of sitting there Aiden's ears flicked to his phone going off. Aiden was shaken out of his thoughts by the sound of his phone ringing. He fumbled for it, his heart racing as he answered. "Hello?" he said, trying to keep the tremor from his voice. "Aiden, where the hell are you?" came the sharp voice of his supervisor, Alex harrison. "I've been trying to reach you for the past half hour. You disappeared after chasing the killer on the rooftops." Aiden winced, realizing that he had completely forgotten about checking in with his supervisor. "I'm... I'm still on the rooftops. I had a run-in with the killer," he said awkwardly, knowing that he would have a lot of explaining to do. "You fought him?" Alex's voice was sharp and incredulous. "Are you serious? I specifically told you to follow him and report his location, not get into a physical altercation! You're supposed to be a professional, not a reckless idiot." Aiden felt a pang of shame and guilt at Alex's words. He knew that he had screwed up, that he had let his emotions get the better of him and ignored his orders. "I know, I know," he said, trying to keep his voice steady. "I just... I got carried away. I wanted to try to bring him in myself." "Good thing is your alive. Do not move this time- i mean it. We are on our way okay kid." Alex sighed. "Yes, sir," Aiden replied, feeling relieved that someone was coming to help him. He knew that he had messed up and that he would have to face the consequences of his actions, but at least he wasn't alone on the rooftops anymore. "And Aiden-" Alex's voice softened a bit. "Be more careful next time, alright? You're a good kid, but you're not invincible. Don't try to take on a criminal of that caliber by yourself." Aiden's heart softened a bit at Alex's words of concern. He rarely got a kind or caring word from his supervisor, and it caught him off guard. "I-I will," he promised, feeling a pang of regret for letting Alex down. "I won't do anything stupid again." "Good," Alex replied, his tone back to its normal brisk manner. "We'll be there soon. Just stay put and don't try to get yourself killed again, alright?" "Yeah, yeah, I got it," Aiden said, managing a faint smile despite the circumstances. "Thanks, boss. See you soon." Alex simply grunted in response before hanging up, leaving Aiden to sit and wait for rescue. The realization of what had just happened slowly started to sink in, and he couldn't shake the feeling of dread and anxiety that the encounter with Ryuichi had left behind. The rooftop seemed much more dangerous now, alone and injured as he was. He could still feel the ache from where Ryuichi's punch had connected, his body sore and his mind in turmoil. He knew that he had made a huge mistake tonight, and he couldn't help but wonder what the consequences would be. He pulled himself to his feet, leaning against the wall for support. The city lights seemed to mockingly flicker in the distance, serving as a reminder of the dangerous world he lived in. He had thought he could make a difference as a half-human detective, but tonight had proven otherwise. Aiden let out a soft bitter laugh. Standing up to Ryuichi had felt good, in a messed-up kind of way. He had never felt such raw power and emotion before, and he couldn't deny the rush of adrenaline that had coursed through him as he scratched the killer's face. He knew that it was dangerous and foolish to be even considering facing Ryuichi again, but there was a small part of him that was strangely drawn to the thrill of the confrontation. He shook his head, trying to push away the thought. He was getting ahead of himself. For now, he needed to focus on getting down from the roof safely and dealing with the aftermath of tonight's encounter. His tail swayed side to side a bit as he lit a cigarette admiring the city lights. Aiden took a long drag of his cigarette, the smoke filling his lungs and giving him some momentary comfort. He gazed at the city lights, lost in thought, the adrenaline from the fight slowly beginning to wear off.
