The groups have scattered all around the campus to do their tasks. Some chose to finish first the task that would be easily done, some went to the open court and did the runs first, and some followed the order of the tasks.
Seolha, Soobin, Miji, and Sunoo went to the botanical garden, where some of the other groups are too.
"Seolha, may I know if I should call you unnie? Or maybe you're a bit younger than me, which is very rare. Like, you know?" Miji clings to Seolha's arm while walking past the plants.
"When were you born?" Seolha asked her.
"2005," Miji answered.
"So I should be the one to call you unnie!" Seolha smiled while she could see how Miji's face slowly turned unexcited.
"Why, of all of my friends, I'm the oldest one!" Miji said in exaggeration.
"Oh, come on. Miji-unnie, I'm just one year younger. You're not that old."
"Oh, stop it."
While walking, Sunoo sees a sunflower and takes note of it. Well, sunflowers are commonly associated with the sun's vibrance and personality. They can't deny it is his characteristic.
Miji stopped chattering and focused back on the tasks as she saw a lily flower on the small pond just beside the mini grass field where Sunoo is. She immediately takes note of it and lists down her characteristics.
Soobin and Seolha continued to find a flower in the garden as they separated from the group. But as Soobin noticed the two of them were alone, he suddenly pulled Seolha's arm and went to the part of the garden where the trees were many. Just like a mini forest, perhaps.
Seolha was startled by the thought that she had been suddenly pulled away. As he was following Soobin's prints, they both stopped under a tall tree filled with pink flowers all over it.
"Lee Seolha, right? Still remember me?" Soobin gently took off his hand and placed it on his side.
Before Soobin could say something, Seolha doubted to herself that she knew this person.
"Mac & Cheese?" Soobin randomly uttered these words as it made Seolha dig up her memories.
"Binnie?" Seolha remembered.
"Yes!" Soobin's face lightened.
"Actually, I was doubting my memory when I saw you since you're much shorter than me way back then--"
"Nu-uh. Forget that. I've grown taller, you see," Soobin said proudly while turning around.
"Yeah, my bad that I didn't recognize you at first."
"It's okay. We'll both catch up on each other's lives. How are you?" Soobin asked in a sudden change of tone. He feels nostalgic upon leaving their neighborhood in Incheon, including Seolha, his childhood friend.
"I'm fine, Soobin. I just can't believe that we see each other again--" Seolha's words were interrupted by Soobin as he gently hugged Seolha in his arms.
Seolha didn't budge and hugged him back. "I missed you so much, my Mac." Seolha closed her eyes within Soobin's embrace.
Seolha remembered how they both created nicknames for each other when they were kids.
Soobin always loves to eat food that has cheese all over it. Seolha sometimes calls him "cheesy" way back since he would brought up jokes to her while eating cheese.
And one time, it was the word "Mac & Cheese," where Soobin explained that they are always together and since then, he would always remember that Seolha will always be her Mac and he will be the Cheese. Sound corny to an adult maybe, but they're still kids way back.
"You will still use that nicknames?" Seolha laughed while she remembered the origin of their nicknames.
"Of course! Don't you like it? It's unique."
"Of course, I like it. I love it," Seolha assured him.
"You know why I brought you to this part of the garden?" Soobin asked her while gazing into his eyes at a tree.
"Because you have something to say to me?" Seolha jokingly answered.
"No, not just that."
"See this pink flower? It's like you." Soobin touched the pink flower just above him.
"A sakura?"
"It's not a sakura, actually." Soobin said while lowering his hand and continually gazing at the flowers.
"It's a plum blossom,"
"A Japanese apricot flower," he added.
"First time hearing it," Seolha replied to him.
"Really? You could have encountered these flowers in traditional paintings and poetry around Asia." Soobin wandered his gaze around the trees, and Seolha followed him while walking.
"This tree?" Soobin said while touching the rough surface of the tree.
"It's called Prunus mume. It's a Chinese tree species in the Armeniaca section of the genus Prunus subgenus Prunus."
"Making this flowers be sometimes called Chinese plum, Japanese plum, or Japanese apricot," he added.
"Wow, your blowing my mind with your knowledge--" Seolha was interrupted again.
"U-uh. I did not stop there. This tree blooms even in the severe cold like any other tree with its flowers. Plum blossoms are considered an ideal symbol of a life of enduring adversity, resilience, and perseverance. They are a symbol of hope and renewal, emerging from the darkness of winter to signal the arrival of spring."
Soobin faces Seolha and walks near her. "You're like that, Seolha."
Seolha didn't know what to do as her heart beats faster, leaving herself frozen in front of Soobin.
She feels like the time has stopped as she didn't even worry about anything else. Her mind was blank.
"I think you should start taking notes about that." Soobin said as he gave a pouting smile, making his cheeks squishy before facing his back to Seolha and leaves.
Seolha was still stunned by the occurrence that just happened.
It did take her a while before returning back to reality. She shook her head a little.
"Okay. Focus. Did he just make me freeze? Like, what the hell was that?!" Seolha came back to her senses and took out her writing notebook.
