I debated with myself all day. Do I go to Jamie's game or not? He's been home but I haven't seen him. I haven't really talked to him. Well, he hasn't really talked to me. I texted him a few times and never got a reply so I didn't push the issue. I assume she's in town. That's probably a really good reason for me not to go to his game. I miss him, though, and it would be nice to see him. He doesn't even need to know I'm there. I've been watching his games on TV and I think I'm ready to see one in person. It seems like a good time. It feels a little pathetic, not like that's anything new. I've been back and forth all day. Do I go or do I stay home and wallow in self pity?
I call Pooh for some advice. I can always count on him. "Should I go to Jamie's game tonight? I can't decide if it's a good idea or not."
"You might as well get it over with. You're gonna do it no matter what." Pooh is always hitting me with honesty. "I'll buy you the damn ticket."
"Do you want to come with me? I have a meeting downtown and can pick you up after."
"Can't. I have that date tonight."
"Oh yeah! I lost track of what day it is. Are you excited?"
"I am actually."
"You'll have to tell me how it goes."
"Always do. Ok. Let's get you a ticket. Where do you want to sit?"
"I have no clue. I've never been to a hockey game. Where's a good spot? Wait. Don't pay for it. I can buy my own ticket."
"You aren't taking your girls with you?"
"Not this time. I think I need to do this alone. I'll figure out the best spot."
"Too late. Already bought it. I'll send it over to you."
"I would have figured it out, but thank you."
"I got you a seat with a good view of the game so you can see everything, but if you wanna see him up close get there early and go all the way down to the glass for warm ups."
"I can do that?"
"Yeah. They let you."
"I'd like to see him, but I don't want him to see me."
"You should let him see you, then flip him off."
"There's no reason for that. I knew what I was getting into."
"He's stringing you along and I don't like it."
"It's my decision to stay friends. I could walk away."
"No you can't, because you're too far gone and you think there's a chance it could still happen."
"I'm still living my life. I had that date."
"And are you going to see him again?"
I sigh. "No, but that has nothing to do with Jamie."
"Right."
"It really doesn't. The vibe was kinda off all night and after everything it was actually him who said he wasn't interested in another date."
"Because you were thinking about another man all night, I'm sure."
"Give me some credit."
"I know you too well."
"Well, I had a good time but sometimes you just don't click with someone like that. That's all it was. Struck out yet again."
"My poor, poor Veronica. You're gonna get fucked up at this game, aren't you?"
"No. I'll be alone."
"What you really should do is bring a guy and make him jealous. Give him a little taste of his own medicine."
