I was walking with my son back to our cottage, until I heard a twig snap behind us. My fear spiked up at this and my eyes went wide. I didn't want to freak my son out so I told him it might have been an animal.

I felt a very strong presence following us. I feared that it may have been a hashira or demon slayer at the least. I didn't want my precious baby boy to die, not him..

I placed him down on the ground and he tilted his head up at me. "Momma?" He asked. I kept the tears back as I told him to go a head of me and find his uncle. He knew something was wrong so he listened like the smart little boy he is.

I turned and faced a pink haired woman. She was very pretty but I could not let that distract me. "Please.. kill me instead.. don't hurt my baby please?" I pleaded with her. She looked saddened at this. "I'm sorry but you both are demons. I'll be sure to make your deaths quick, so you can live in peace even beyond the grave."

She raced toward me but I didn't move to fight. I couldn't nor I wouldn't, humans are not meant to be harmed. I raised my arms over my head to brace for impact. Then suddenly my head went rolling.

My body started to turn to ash, my clothes being left behind. Tears welled in my eyes as I look at the hashira, who in turn looked at me. I guess this is when I die.. but.. I just wish that my baby would live..

Suddenly, my body that was gone, regenerated at lightening speed from my severed head. I and the hashira were both shocked by this. My body never did this. Is this what demons experience when about to die?..

The hashira tried again but my body came right back at the same time as before. She was shocked and I took her shock as time to run and get my son. She didn't take long to snap out of it and follow suit. "Wait come back!" She called after me.

I didn't listen to her though and kept running. Every little thing up til now racing in my mind. How? Had I really drank that much human blood? Or maybe I had drank a lot of merechi blood on accident?

Whatever, that doesn't matter right now. Only my son does...

Soon enough, I caught up to where my son was after following his scent. My fear was replaced with utter horror instead as my eyes laid on the scene before me. Another demon slayer was on top of him and trying kill him.

I run even faster, trying to reach him before it was too late. Before I could though, webs sprung out and killed the slayer right as his sword was about to cut my son. My son took this chance to run to me and I cried, holding him close to me.

"My poor baby.. it's ok.. momma's right here.." I cooed to him. He buried his face into my neck, crying quietly. I hushed him as a voice from above was heard. "You were ready to risk your life for him.." the sound of a young voice sounded out.

It sounded like it came from the trees. I hurriedly look at who this could be and to my horror, it was Rui. Lower moon 5..

My heart sink as I clutched my son closer to my chest. "We're so sorry.. we'll go just please don't kill my darling boy.." I beg to the upper rank. He merely tilts his head as he jumps down from his webs. "I can protect you both.. so long as you both agree to join my family..." he bargained.

My eyes went slightly wide as I thought for a moment. We needed protection at the moment and I knew, I wouldn't be able to fulfill it. I look over towards him and nod, "we'll join you.."

It seems like he's trying to hold back a smile as he comes closer. I freeze up just a bit as he hugs me. It confuses me but I hug him back. I blink away the confusion when I heard footsteps. Rui walked in front of me, "Go somewhere safe, I will handle this.." he said calmly.

I looked at him before running off. I needed to put my son somewhere safe so I can help Rui. It's the least I can do for him.

I place my son in a nearby cave and cover it with bushes. 'This will do for now' I thought as I ran back to Rui. He was struggling to keep this women at bay. Slowly. I find an opening before chopping the woman's neck. Just like that, she slumped to the ground in a dead faint.

I look over at Rui to see if he was ok and,  he was looking at me in utter shock. "You... you came back for me.." he muttered. I frown a bit, he was still a child who wanted love. That's all he wanted, the love of a family.

"Of course I did.. I joined your family.. family does not get left behind.." I said. I could see the tears welling up in his eyes. In an instant though, he wrapped his arms around my waist. His face buried itself into my stomach as he could only let out silent tears. Poor baby...

I stood there for minutes, gently petting his head to comfort him. He was just a child at heart, no matter how old he was in demon years. He looks about the same age my son was turned. So young but still so strong.

After a bit he let go and looked toward the demon slayer. He was about to kill her but I stopped him. "Wait.. I'll take her down the mountain.. please.." I begged. He looked at me, slightly irritated.

"Mother, why do you insist on saving a human, a demon slayer at that?" He asked me. I could see the hurt even though he hid it well.

"Life is precious for both humans and demons alike. All because you'll never know when or where it'll end." I told him, patting his head. He leaned into my hand before nodding. I smiled and kissed his head, before picking up the demon slayer on my back.

She was quite hefty despite her appearance but I could manage. I ran down the mountain side to the nearest town. All I needed to do was drop her off. That's all. 

I pant a bit, not use to carrying anything heavier then my son. All I need to worry about was keeping my sons and the slayer safe. That's All...
