Fallout -UNSECRET, Neoni

Lana.

I'm not one to resort right to violence, but right now? It is being seriously considered.

"Are we almost there?"

"No."

"I'm tired."

"What am I supposed to do about that?"

"Take a break."

"Absolutely not."

"I won't have any energy to fight when we get there."

"Then I guess you're gonna die."

"But-"

"No."

"What if-"

"Lucas."

"Would you just-"

"Lucas, shut up!" The outburst came from everyone in unison and he immediately went quiet.

His complaining has cost my sanity, focus, and patience. Since we got off the jet, Lucas has complained about everything. Being hungry, tired, he even complained about Europe not being as good a view as he thought. Somehow in his mind, he's convinced himself we're all here on vacation. We're not.

I turn to Noah who is a few steps behind me. "How much further up?" I ask.

He wipes the sweat off his forehead and looks at the map in his hands. "Almost twenty feet." His response is sounding slightly out of breath. I just nod my head at him and continue hiking up the side of the mountain.

"How come she gets to ask?" Lucas's sarcastic question is answered when he lets out a groan of pain, after Parker elbows him in the side. I shake my head slightly at the children behind me and keep my eyes ahead.

"Do we have any idea what we're walking into?" Izzy's question is a good one.

No.

"No," Noah shakes his head. "Just take the normal precautions. We'll be fine."

"Famous last words." Kali's comment makes me smirk.

"Dude, are you sure you're reading this thing right?" I can hear Parker jog to catch up to Noah and take the map from his hands.

"I know how to read a map, Parker." Noah responds sarcastically.

"Well maybe we should all look over it together." May suggests.

I ignore all of them as they stop to fight over the map, and make my way further up the sandy hill. They're all wasting time with that stupid map. "Yeah maybe some new eyes would do us some good." Lucas says sympathetically.

They're voices begin to fade as the land in front of me becomes more visible every step I climb. Once I'm standing on top of the hill, I let my confused eyes wander over the dry terrain. I shake my head to myself and squint my eyes as if it would magically change anything. "What the hell?" Apparently I'm not very good at whispering, because the rest of the team is soon standing next to me.

"What is it, Lana?" I can hear Izzy ask me before her face mirrors my cautious expression. Soon the rest of the team will share this look as they take in the sight before us.

There's nothing. Nothing but a loan building that seems to be abandoned.

As soon as I take a step to continue forward, an arm shoots out to block me. I look over at Noah. "We don't know what we're walking into." He says.
