Suguru had cleaned up after the mission, and returned to school. And while Aki was helping Toge unpack in his new room, Satoru and Suguru went to report to the principle.

"So, tell me, how'd it go?" the teacher asked, as the two boys sat down in his office.

"That was probably the fastest mission we've ever been on," Geto said honestly, "Aki instantly paralysed almost fifty curses, leaving a couple for the two of us. And I was able to absorb some of the strongest ones, before exorcising the others."

The teacher nodded, impressed.

"And what about Aki's cursed technique? What were your impressions?"

Gojo and Geto looked at each other for a moment.

So this wasn't a briefing about how the mission had gone, it was a way for the principle to keep tabs on his new student.

"It was remarkable to say the least," Geto said, "she could fully control the targets of her technique, while avoiding the two of us."

The teacher nodded, pondering.

"I see. So the reports from Kyoto were correct."

"Sensei, it was very impressive, but it backfired." Gojo said, worried, "She took everyone down easily, but by the end she was literally couching up blood."

The teacher stayed silent for a second, "Power comes at a cost, this is just the price Aki has to pay. And she's shown again and again that she can handle it, from what I've heard from Kyoto's principal."

Gojo was fuming, how could the man in front of him be so heartless? Of course the girl was powerful, if Gojo had to guess, she's probably on his level. But saying that she should handle that much pain for others' sake?

After seeing the shift in his friend's expression, Geto placed a hand on Gojo's shoulder, trying to calm him down without making it obvious.

"Sensei, what are you saying?" Geto asked.

"This is just a means of telling you that she'll be sent out on missions alone from now on. She's the only special grade in the school, and we sure as hell are short on sorcerers."

Gojo was ready to scream at the teacher, but Geto interrupted.

"Thank you for letting us know, Sensei. Now, we have things to attend to." he stood up, bowing, waiting for Gojo, who reluctantly did the same without saying a word.

It was unusual for Gojo to be genuinely upset, but Geto could see that he was.

"Her clan was massacred days before she came here." Gojo said in a deep voice, "she's powering through everything like nothing ever happened, but she's not okay. But who cares? Let's send her out on more missions, this time without anyone there to make sure she's okay!"

Geto became concerned. Both for the girl, and for his best friend.

It wasn't uncommon for sorcerers to get killed. And, though Geto doubted Aki would die any time soon, considering how powerful she was, he was concerned with how quickly Gojo had become attached.

"Let's go check on her." Geto suggested.

The two walked to where she'd been helping her cousin settle in.

The room her cousin had was in a different wing, so he wouldn't be living with the actual students.

"Which room was it?"

"230." Gojo answered, "here it is," he knocked.

"Salmon!"

Gojo opened the door, remembering that "salmon" meant agreement. He'd have to learn the whole onigiri glossary one of these days.
