Chapter 10: The Stray

WARNING:

It was nighttime in the Headmaster's office. Professor Ozpin is seated behind his desk across from the seat you are sitting on, with the moonlight illuminating through the clock-decorated windows.

"Thank you for taking your time to be here." Ozpin acknowledges. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything."

"No worries, you didn't exactly. And even if you did, it wasn't important. More like you got me out of a situation." You state with honesty.

"Splendid." Ozpin then leans closer. "Before I bring up the Goliath in the room, mind if I ask a question?"

You look with curiosity before nodding.

"Out of all of the other academies, what made you choose Beacon?" Ozpin asks.

"Compared to the other kingdoms, Vale's well-governed, there's low discrimination and the training is effective." You explain.

"True, but I believe that you have a more...personal reason for enrolling in Beacon." Ash interjects.

Without any reason to cover the truth, you sigh and decide to reveal:

"Both of my parents graduated from Beacon, they recommended me to become a Huntsman through this academy. I wish to be just like them."

"Elysium Märchen and Regalia Empyrean." Ozpin recalls. "I'm not surprised those two got together."

You stare in shock upon hearing their names again.

"I know they were once your students, but I'm surprised you remember them." You admit.

"Of course!" Ozpin then states. "I can see your father's confidence and your mother's kindness in you."

"Thank you, Professor. But why bring up my parents into this conversation?"

"Y/N." Ozpin goes straight to the point. "I would like you to join our cause, just like your parents once did."

"For what?"

"There is a hidden evil in this world we've been fighting in secret, in order to protect the peace we all have now."

"Then who's the evil lurking in the shadows?"

"We'll fill you in on the details once we know you're with us." Glynda responds with.

"I don't know, still seems really vague." You begin to doubt.

Ozpin gives you time to think this through.

"But...I'm sure you have your reasons." You understand. "And if my parents trusted you, then so will I."

The headmaster smiles, although you add:

"But on one condition...that my team gets to know about this and that you give them the same choice whether to join or not."

"I'm afraid we can't do that." Glynda states. "The only reason why we told you this secret is because we're willing to trust you."

"And I'm willing to place that same trust on my teammates, they deserve to know just as much as I do."

"Why?"

"Because they're like family." You then describe. "They say 'blood is thicker than water', but I say that it's the bonds we'll make that'll forge us stronger than iron."
