As I walked out my door I see Austin standing by my tree. I walked up to him and out of nowhere he picks me up and hugs me.
"(Ha,ha,ha) good morning Mercedes, my its a lovely day outside shall we walk. " I nodded. He sat me down and we both laughed.
" you seem cheerful this morning, did you find anything in your cereal? " I laughed As I listened to her voice. I quietly put my hands in my pockets.
" no, im just happy to see. My bestfriend this morning. " she punched me in the arm and said.
"I missed you too." Just then a couple of boys came towards us.
"Hey Mercedes, Austin, how are you guys? Wait I forgot ones a pathedic geek and ones a low life piece of shit no one likes. Am I right Mercedes? "
"Hey enough okay, she didnt do anything to you so leave her alone. " the guy got close to us. I felt someone grab me from behind.
"Please stop!" I looked at Austin as he looked at the guy. He got into Austin's face and said,
" no one cares about your life." He backed away and walked up to Mercedes.
"As for you..." he just then punched her in the stomanch.
"Grab him." I looked behind me as two guys grabbed me. He smiled and looked at me.
"Drop her." The guy let me go As I fell to the ground. I laid there confused and in pain. He gave her a kick in the stomach.
"Noo!" He kicked her once more before his friend said,
"Their not even worth it. " the guy looked at the both of us and said,
"Your right lets go." They backed up and ran down the street. I ran up to her. I fell to the ground and laid her in my lap.
"We need to get you to the hospital. " I pulled out my phone when she grabbed my wrist.
"No." He gave me that look.
"Fine." I dialed my moms number.
(10 minutes later) As. I looked up I saw my mom getting out of the car.
"Austin what happened?"
"She got beaten up by these guys, they didnt bother touching me but they hurt her. " she looked down at Mercedes and frowned.
" looks like we need to take her to the hospital. " we stood her up and walked to the car. Mom opened the back and said,
"Get in Austin, im going to lay her down on your lap until we get to the hospital. "
"Okay." As she laid Mercedes on my lap she ran to the drivers side and beginned to drive. I looked at the spot before it faded.
( a half hour later)
I pictured injuries like a ghost trying to take pain and give it to the helpless. It irritates me. Im at home when I should be at the hospital with Mercedes. I. Walked up to my dresser when I found a picture sitting on top. I took the photo frame and just smiled. I looked at mine and Mercedes face smiling with beauty, well her face was smiling with beauty. The picture was taken on our family trip up to Georgia for camping. Mercedes and I went for a walk when we ended up playing in mud. She called It a mud war. (Laughing) our parents saw us playing in it and thought it was a good idea to take a picture. Mercedes gave me that look, like an (oh no) kind of look. I pulled her to me and we hugged. I must of said something funny in order for her to have a cheshier grin on her face. We had a good, scratch that we had a great time.
"Austin!!" I herd the voice of my mother calling me down.
" give me a minute im changing. "
( 5 curious minutes later)
As I jogged down the stairs. I waited on the edge of the stairs and Wondered.
"Where are yeah mom.?" I turned my head instantly and saw mom coming in the living room.
"Hey im going to the hospital to see Mercedes, do you want to come?" I felt in insainly feeling of humanoid behaviour rushing through blood stream.
" duh thats a weird question come on silly boy." I laughed as mom messed up my hair. I pulled my hair back to the way it was.
(45 minutes later)
I walked into the hospital to the front desk as My mom said,
" Can we see Mercedes Korlov please. "Sure shes in room 304" we both smiled at the lady in the front desk. Mom looked at me and whispered.
"I think we already knew that. " I tried not to laugh. As we reached her room I frozed in place.
I thought as I laid there I turned my head and saw Austin standing outside the door. I sat up quickly and smiled.
"Hi Austin!!" He took a step in and walked towards me.
"How are you feeling?"
"Lousy and in pain." We all smiled. I sat down on her bed, just beneath her feet when her mom said,
"The doctor said she might have broken a couple ribs. But she can leave here real soon." I looked up at her mom and nodded.
"Thats good."
( half hour later)
We all sat there waiting, it seemed like we were chickens running around with our heads cut off. It seems like hours without a notice not one word from the doctor. All this has been a blur I was just thinking in my head was this all just a dream. When I first walked in here I saw her lying on her back just staring at her parents.
"Judy can I talk to you?" My mother looked up at Mrs. Korlov And nodded. I looked at Mercedes when they walked out.
"Whats up?"
" David and I have to Go out of state for a month."
"What happened?"
"This morning I found out that my mother has passed away and they want us to come down there."
"Im so sorry Karen."
" they said it be best if Mercedes didnt come, they think she would be frightened by the open casket. So we were wondering if you could have Mercedes stay with you. Would that be okay with you?"
"Of course We'd love to have her. "
"Thank you." Seeing the moms out there hugging got me questioning. Just as they came in, the doctor was right behind them.
" so Mercedes how are you feeling?"
"Tired."
" Thats the medicine talking (ha,ha,ha,) well it looks like she's stable enough to go home. " my dad stood up and shook the doctors hand, it seemed like they knew him. Mama turned to him and hugged the man.
"Thanks Roland."
"No problem Karen. Take care Mercedes, you to Austin!!!" I looked at Austin as he waved at Roland. I looked at dad when Roland left, he patted my leg.
"Mercedes honey we have something to tell you."
"Yes?" She took a step towards me.
" your father and I have to leave out of State for a month." I felt tears coming through my eyes.
"So soon?" My dad laid his hand on mine when I pulled it away.
"Dont!" Everything and everyone was was as silence as could be. I laid there letting the tears drip from my face. Was I cold from this? The fear from me accepting the dangerous feeling of being alone haunts my presences.
( a half hour later)
I looked at my suitcase , all filled up with my clothing. It had one book and my favourite shows.
(Knock,Knock,Knock)
"Come in." As I turned my head I saw Austin coming towards me. He grabbed my suitcase and said,
"Ready?" I shook my head and beginned to cry. I stood there seeing Mercedes crying, so I sat down the suitcase and wrapped my arms around her bringing in a hug. I started stroking her hair calmly as she cried into my shoulder.
"Your okay." I looked over her shoulder as she grabbed my shirt. She pulled back and looked at me and said,
" promise me...."
" what?"
" never leave me alone."
"I promise bird brain (ha,ha,ha)." She smiled as I wiped away the tears that fell from her small blue eyes. I leaned in and gently laid my lips apon hers. She jumped at first but she smiled and wrapped her arms around my mid section. We both pulled back instantly and looked at each other.
"Sorry!" We both said at the same time.
"I think that will change everything." I grabbed her hand and interlocked our fingers together. I picked up her suitcase and we walked out of her bedroom.
"Would we be friends still even though we kissed?"
" of course why wouldnt we?" I shrugged my shoulders as I walked out the door. I opened the car door and climbed in. Austin was behind me when he climbed in the passenger side.
"Did you get everything okay?" I looked at Mercedes in the rear view mirror and she gulped.
"Yes I got everything."
