After hanging my herb bundles up neatly in both the kitchen and my bedroom, I grab my laptop and go to sit in the living room looking at the cover art pictures the artist sent me. I frown when they look nothing like how I had first imagined and described. They were worse than the last drafts. I at least somewhat liked the last drafts. I quickly email the artist back and (try to) politely explain what needs to be in proved. I scowl at the images again while rubbing my temples. I mean it wasn't awful, but it just wasn't what I wanted. I close my laptop and head to the porch. Bucky and Sam are now out in the yard playing with AJ and Cass. I smile as I watch them run around and roughhouse. Bucky looks so relaxed and happy while playing with the boys. He's strangely cut out for the nice slow domestic life.
"Checking out our guest?" I hear Sarah ask behind me.
"Nope, just watch the boys roughhouse," I half lie.
"Mhmm, sure," Sarah hums. "Bucky seems to be rather infatuated with you."
"I haven't noticed," I say. "What makes you say that?"
"He has been helping you out as much as possible," Sarah remarks. "How have you not noticed?"
"He's just being nice," I shrug. "Besides, he could have a pick of any woman. Why would he pick me?"
"I don't know, maybe because you're beautiful in every perceivable way possible?" Sarah sasses. "Stop putting yourself down, (Y/N). It's rather annoying."
I ignored Sarah's statements. I didn't tell her how my heart and soul are too broken to find and hold onto love. She has too much faith in me to believe it. I just continue to watch the boys play with Bucky and Sam. I hear Sarah sigh in slight frustration, but mostly resignation. She probably knows my inner most thoughts. She's my sister and best friend after all.
"Come on. Let's make some tea," Sarah offers.
I smile wryly and nod. She always knows how to take care of everyone. She's just like Mom and Daddy in that way. I follow her to the kitchen. She sets the kettle on the stove while I fix each of us our own tea infusers. I put lemon verbena and rosemary in hers. In mine, I put rosemary, lavender, and eucalyptus. Sarah grabs our mugs and hands them to me. I put the infusers in the cups and we wait for the kettle to finish. Once it's done, Sarah pours the water into the cups. I smile and grab mine to add my honey. Once we got our drinks sorted, we head over to the porch again. I sit down on one of the rocking chairs while Sarah takes the other.
"Seriously though. Are you ever going to settle down and start a family?" Sarah asks.
"Are you ever gonna get remarried?" I shot back.
"Maybe. If I find the right man," Sarah answers. "Now stop avoiding the question."
"Maybe, maybe not," I shrug. "I'm just waiting on the right man."
"How can you find the right man if you don't put yourself out there?" Sarah asks. "Look, you know I've been on the online dating sites and I know you haven't even tried it. Why not start there?"
"Because I..."
"Hey, Sarah! What's for dinner?" Sam interrupts as he approaches.
Sarah flashes me a look that says "we're not done with this" before turning to Sam. "I was thinking we get take out some pizza."
"Awesome!" Sam says. "Pepperoni and sausage?"
"One half pepperoni and sausage, half cheese, one half (F/T) and half mushroom and pepper," Sarah agrees. "Will that be enough?"
"Maybe," Sam shrugs. "I don't know how much Bucky will eat."
"Fine, one pepperoni and sausage, one cheese, and one half (F/T) and half mushroom and pepper," Sarah says.
