Rei's eyes cracked open as the first rays of dawn shone in through her white curtains into her dorm room.
Rei groaned sleepily and climbed out of bed, rubbing the fatigue from her eyes, slapping her cheeks lightly to make herself wake up. Rei walked over to her closet and pulled open the doors, pulling out some sweatpants, a tank top and a hoodie. She slipped them on before opening the door to her room quietly and slipping out.
Rei strode down the hallway, her sneakers barely making any sound on the smooth, polished floor.
Rei left the school dorms and headed to the forested area of the school grounds. She liked to run there in the morning. It was peaceful, with the sound of the woods and the birds singing their early morning anthems. Rei liked to be alone with her thoughts, that way she could process what was happening and what would be the next step to take.
Rei heard some grunting, grumbling and groaning, and the sound of someone falling over. Rei's eyes narrowed, her body tensing and going on high alert, ready to fight and take down her opponent if needed.
Rei approached the area cautiously, her eyes scanning her surroundings for threats.
"Ugh, it took you six years to learn how to use these binding cloths. Does someone like me really stand a chance at mastering them like you did?" someone asked. A boy, by the sound of it.
Rei tilted her head. "Hm, he has a nice voice, and it's deep. He must be a second year or something. I wonder who he is talking to."
Rei's body relaxed when she heard Aizawa speak. "I practised a long time, but I was learning from scratch. No one was there to shepherd my progress," he replied, looking at the boy on the ground. Aizawa was leaning against a tree, his arms crossed over his chest. His usual long, black unruly hair was tied back in a ponytail, which surprised Rei.
"Ok, why does Aizawa-sensei look good like that?" Rei thought, staring at Aizawa.
"People like you and me have to be resourceful. When the time comes, if we can't look out for ourselves then we're as good as dead," Aizawa added.
Rei had been so focused on Aizawa's words, that she had barely looked at the boy, but she glanced at him now in curiosity. He is a relatively tall young man with messy, indigo-colored hair that flares out in large tufts around his head, notably straight teeth. His eyes are purple with white pupils and are thin and somewhat triangular, pointing downward, with no visible eyelashes. They're usually half-closed, and he has dark eye bags underneath them.
Rei tilted her head. "Hm, I wonder what his Quirk is," she thought, assessing him with her cold, calculating eyes. "He could either be a valuable ally, or more competition."
"Keep on practising. And remember, I'm not the type to waste my time on hopeless cases," Aizawa said, before turning and walking away, leaving the purple haired boy to try and untangle himself from the white bindings that were trapping him.
"Need a hand?" Rei's voice cut through the silence, cold and aloof. Her eyes, usually so sharp and calculating, softened slightly with curiosity.
Shinso looked up, his purple eyes narrowing in surprise. He was still struggling with the bindings, which seemed to only tighten the more he moved. His voice, though tinged with frustration, held a note of hope. "If you could, that'd be great. These things are more trouble than they're worth."
Rei raised an eyebrow as she came closer, her graceful stride betraying no hint of urgency. "Aizawa-sensei's advice seems to be more about perseverance than practical help. You might have to learn to handle it on your own eventually."
