The creature looked over the family. Its long claws outstretched. It watched and waited. It saw everything. Everything.
"Mom, can I go upstairs?" The middle child asked.
The mom nodded in approval. The mischievous boy ran to his room, leaving the rest of the family to finish their supper.
There were three kids in total, which consisted of two sons (aged 14 and 11) and one daughter (8). Their father died on duty, a tragic story.
"Chris, could you pass the cider?" The mother asked.
Tick..
Tok...
Tick..
Tock.
It felt as if time was going slower now. The creature drew one long claw, darkness shrouding it. Each echo heard upstairs was an eternity long.
There were screams of terror, blood being drawn from each person in its way. No sympathy or remorse.
Pure evil.
Jamie heard this, and ran downstairs. But it was too late. It was as if nothing was there, his mother lay limp on the ground, her body contorted, and blood dripped from her mouth. The Christmas tree was on fire, broken ornaments scattered on the ground. Chris, his older brother was strangled, his eyes were missing, and in their place were maggots.
"No." Jamie whispered. His family couldn't be dead. But then like a glimmer of hope, through the great tragedy he saw someone hiding in the corner of the room.
Karie, his little sister.
"Karie." Jamie gasped and ran to his sister, he hugged her and promised he would be strong. For her.
...
"Sheriff, we just got a call from a young man, he claims someone attacked his family"
"Survivors?"
"Just the boy and his sister."
"Something strange is going on here. Just last night an old lady got attacked while walking her dog, and a young man got killed on his way to the post office. The Christmas festival is right around the corner, who knows what will happen with a murderer on the loose."
The ambulance and police were already at the scene. There wasn't hope for the mother and son. As the police investigated they couldn't find the other siblings.
...
"Hello?" Jamie asked through the complete darkness. He couldn't see. The last thing he remembered was waiting for the police to arrive.
Jamie wandered aimlessly around hoping he would run into something, but it was a never ending landscape of complete darkness.
But then he saw what looked like a person. He walked closer.
"Hello?" Jamie asked again.
Jamie walked even closer, Jamie could recognize the face, Chris.
Jamie felt a boost of hope and extended his hand and realized he was just looking at darkness.
His heart fell to his stomach.
"Help me!" A high pitched voice cried out in agony.
Jamie remembered Karie. His sister. She needed him.
"Help me!" The voice cried again.
And just like that, Jamie was pulled back to reality and woke up surrounded by trees covered in snow. His sister, Karie was sitting in front of him, crying.
