Chapter 26

"Care to explain why your man has been boring a hole in you with his intense stare?" Zee asked in amusement as he placed my morning snacks on the coffee table. We are currently relaxing by the pool, watching Randall and Orion have fun in the water. Jesse and Trevor headed to their other residence with Damien for family-related matters. Mariano was on the other side of the pool, throwing glances at me while attempting to give Hal his undivided attention.

I glanced at Mariano who was getting scolded by Hal for sneaking into our room last night. "What the fuck where you thinking? What if something happened to Arden? You scared him."

Mariano winced and gave me an apologetic look before turning to Hal who was fuming. "I'm sorry, okay? I just missed him so badly."

"Regardless, you could have just knocked at his door first."

"What if he's sleeping? I don't want to wake him up."

"Instead, you decided to sneak like a creep and almost triggered his panic attack? You are better than this!"

"Hal..."

Zee chuckled. "Man, this is very entertaining. Seeing Mariano getting reprimanded like a child never gets old." I looked at Zee and he was grinning, clearly enjoying himself.

I feel bad for Mariano, but he gave me a scare last night, so I had to tell Hal what happened. Although my boyfriend told me that he wants his arrival to be a surprise, still, what happened last night was not good for my heart.

"Pop. I'm thirsty," Orion approached us with Randall behind him. He reached for a towel, handed it over to Randall, and after making sure that Randall was comfortable, he grabbed one for himself.

"That's right. It has been two hours. Thanks, Randall," Zee glanced at the smaller boy who just beamed at him. Orion, on the other hand, appeared to be in shock. "Oh, shut up. I know Randall reminded you. Stop being a baby."

Orion pouted and walked towards Zee, giving his father a brief hug. "But I'm your baby," he said cutely, making Zee roll his eyes. Orion accepted his tumbler from Zee and gave Randall his.

"You're already ten; hardly a baby," Zee replied, chuckling softly at his son's antics, ruffling Orion's hair.

Orion smiled and giggled after. "I have fifteen more years."

Zee blinked and something unreadable crossed his face, but before he could react, a loud thud caught our attention. Randall was staring at his tumbler on the ground, his hand shaking, before running as fast as he could, away from us.

Orion did not waste any time and chased after him, while Zee just rubbed his face in frustration and glanced at me tiredly. "He told me," I said when Zee gave me a look as if he was expecting me to ask questions.

"Oh. That's one less thing to explain about. Anyway, whenever Orion mentions about his 'life span', Randall reacts that way. I told that stupid son of mine to be careful with his mouth but..." Zee groaned and rested his head on shoulder.

"They're pretty close."

Zee smiled fondly. "Yeah. They were like cats and dogs before, but ever since Orion got in an accident..." Zee recalled the accident that almost took Orion's life and the moment they found out about Orion's illness. "Since then, Randall has been staying up all night researching my son's condition. I told him that he doesn't need to worry because we have a capable research team and the Morelli family is more than willing to shed millions to come up with a drug that will prolong Orion's life but... Randall's just a kid, Arden." Zee sat up and squeezed his eyes shut, then stared ahead, his expression tense.
