Mikasa Ackerman lay on her deathbed, her body frail but her mind sharp, surrounded by the last of her surviving comrades and their families. Levi, her former squad captain of the Survey Corps and distant relative had passed away years ago. The world had changed drastically since the days of The Rumbling. Peace had been hard-won, but at a great cost. Now, with time's relentless passage, she was now at her limit. The faces around her blurred as tears welled in her eyes. She could feel the end approaching.

Her thoughts drifted to Eren, the boy she had loved and lost so long ago. The boy who had carried the world on his shoulders, and who had sacrificed everything for a future he believed in. Mikasa had lived on, honoring his memory, but now, at the very end, she yearned for one last reunion. She wanted to see him again, to tell him she loved him, even after all he had done.

As her vision dimmed, she whispered his name, a final plea to the universe. Then, everything went black.

When Mikasa opened her eyes, she was met not by the face she had longed to see, but by an unfamiliar, gentle one. Dark eyes gazed down at her with a mixture of love and surprise. Mikasa blinked, her mind struggling to process what she was seeing. This wasn't Eren. This wasn't anyone she knew.

A woman held her close, speaking softly in a language Mikasa recognized as Hizuru, which she understood. She suddenly realized how small she felt, how helpless. She tried to move, but her limbs were weak and uncoordinated. Panic surged through her until she looked down at herself and saw tiny, delicate hands—hands that seem to belonged to a newborn.

What...where am I? Am I a baby?

Then, realization hit her like a thunderbolt. She had died, that much was certain. But instead of reuniting with her loved ones, she had been reborn. Reborn as a babe in an unfamiliar world.

The woman cradling her smiled warmly. "Mikasa," she murmured, her voice a soothing melody. "Welcome to the world, my darling."

This woman is her mother.

The sound of a door opening is heard, and a gruff male voice spoke.

"Mikoto, are you alright?! How is my son?!"

"Fugaku, I'm fine. And your son also...as well as your daughter."

"Daughter?"

"Yes, it turns out that we have twins!"

Mikasa's newborn mind struggled to comprehend the situation, but fragments of her past life lingered, creating a tumult of emotions within her. The man, who must be her father, approached the woman—her mother—and peered down at the tiny figures in her arms. Mikasa felt his gaze, intense and evaluating, but there was a softness in his eyes when he saw her.

"Twins," Fugaku murmured, his voice a mix of surprise and pride. He gently reached out, brushing his fingers against her cheek. The touch was unfamiliar yet strangely comforting. "A son and a daughter. How unexpected... and how fortunate."

Mikoto smiled, the warmth in her expression radiating a sense of peace and contentment. "They're both strong, Fugaku. They will grow up to be remarkable."

Fugaku nodded, his face thoughtful. "Yes, they will. Our clan's future is secure with our three children."

A few knocks were heard, followed by a small, childish voice.

"Father, mother, can I come in?"

"Yes Itachi, you can come in now."

The door creaked open, and a small boy with dark hair and deep, thoughtful eyes entered the room. He couldn't have been more than five or six years old, but there was a maturity about him that is unusual for his age. As he stepped closer, Mikasa's infant eyes tried to focus on him, her newborn mind instinctively recognizing the importance of this boy—Itachi, her older brother.

Itachi approached slowly, his gaze flickering between his mother, father, and the two tiny bundles in his mother's arms. His expression was calm, but there was a glint of curiosity and wonder in his eyes.

"These are my new siblings?" he asked softly, his voice filled with an innocent curiosity that matched his youthful appearance.

Mikoto nodded, smiling at her eldest son. "Yes, Itachi. This is your brother Sasuke, and this is your sister, Mikasa. You're their big brother now."

Itachi's gaze settled his baby brother first, then on Mikasa, and for a moment, their eyes met.

Carefully, Itachi reached out a small hand to gently touch Mikasa's tiny fist. She felt the warmth of his fingers, and instinctively, her hand grasped his. The simple act seemed to please Itachi, and a small smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.

"I'll protect them, Father. I'll protect our family," Itachi said, his voice carrying a seriousness that seemed almost out of place for a child his age.

Fugaku nodded approvingly. "I know you will, Itachi. You are already a fine brother."

Mikoto looked down at Mikasa, who still held onto Itachi's finger with surprising strength for such a tiny infant. "Mikasa will need you, Itachi. She and your brother will both look up to you as they grow."

Itachi nodded solemnly. "I won't let them down."

As the family shared this quiet moment, Mikasa felt a sense of calm wash over her. The strangeness of this new world, the confusion of being reborn, and the remnants of her past life began to fade into the background. For now, all that mattered was the warmth of her new family, the comfort of her mother's arms, and the protective presence of her new older brother.

While she had hoped to reunite with her friends, parents (both her biological and adopted ones), and the man she would always love, Eren, she had no choice but to accept her new life. There must be a reason why she was reborn.

Could it be because of Ymir? No, it couldn't be—she's gone.

She thought of Eren, of Armin, of her comrades who had fought so bravely by her side. Their faces flickered in her mind like distant stars, their voices fading like whispers in the wind. And yet, she couldn't dwell on them now. Her new life was beginning, and whatever had brought her to this place, she would face it with the same resolve she had always shown.

Mikasa's thoughts were interrupted by the gentle sway of her mother's arms as she was rocked back and forth, her eyelids growing heavy. She felt the rhythmic beat of her mother's heart, the soft hum of her voice, and the quiet strength of her father's presence nearby. Her older brother continued to stare at her and her twin like they were the most precious things in the world.

Perhaps this was her chance to live a life without the threat of Titans, without the weight of war, and without the burden of carrying the fate of the world on her shoulders. Maybe, in this new world, she could find true peace.

With that thought, Mikasa allowed herself to succumb to the comforting embrace of sleep. As her eyelids finally closed, she felt a profound sense of tranquility, a quiet acceptance of her new beginning. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, she let go of her past fears and anxieties. In the warmth of her mother's arms, with the presence of her father and the tender gaze of her older brother, she surrendered to the gentle lull of her new life.
