i slipped away from my team and latto, feeling a wave of relief now that the main event of the night was behind me.

the exhilaration from my performance still buzzed through my veins, but i was ready for a moment of quiet. the crowded room, with its pulsating lights and thumping bass, was starting to feel overwhelming.

making my way through the throng of people, i headed towards the vip bathroom. the music from the club faded slightly as i approached, but i could still hear beyoncé's heated blaring in the background.

the bathroom was a welcome contrast to the chaos outside—a small sanctuary of tiled walls and bright overhead lights. i pushed open the door and stepped inside, taking a deep breath of the cooler, more tranquil air. the room was lined with mirrors and marble sinks, and i made my way to the nearest one.

i was in the middle of touching up my makeup, humming softly to heated when i heard the bathroom door swing open behind me.

i glanced up in the mirror's reflection, half-expecting one of my friends or someone from the team. instead, i saw dani enter, her presence immediately filling the space.

dani's eyes locked onto mine in the dim, flickering light of the bathroom. a lump formed in my throat as the reality of our proximity hit me hard.

"skai," dani's voice was low and heavy with emotion as she took a step closer, her eyes never wavering from mine.

my hand shook slightly as i snapped my small mirror shut and stuffed it into my bag, trying to break free from the magnetic pull of her gaze.

"nuh-uh," i said, trying to sound firm as i moved away from the sink. i attempted to sidestep her, but her long arms reached out, effectively blocking my path. "danielle balbuena, move."

her lips twisted into a faint smirk, but there was a hard edge to her eyes. "wow, full government name and everything?" she said, but her voice was tight with frustration. i frowned, feeling a mix of anger and longing.

"ma'am, can you please move?" my voice carried a sharp edge as i tried to emphasize each word, my frustration growing.

"skai, you blocked me everywhere without giving me a chance to explain myself," dani said, her head leaning slightly as she tried to get me to look at her. i turned my gaze away, unwilling to give in.

"we have nothing to talk about," i said, crossing my arms defensively. my gaze finally met hers, trying to hold my ground.

"skai, come on, you don't even want to hear what happened? i know how everythin' looked."

"nope, i'm over it, to be honest," i said, my voice final.

"yeah, well, your performance up there said otherwise," dani said, her voice rising in frustration.
