Bongbong always knew what to do. Except this time.
"Has she answered?" He asked his assistant, Lisa for the nth time. She shook her head.
Since that fiery night they shared, she became aloof. The morning they woke up, she offered him breakfast without talking to him about what happened. She even drove him out of her condo as soon as the typhoon was over.
"Mga anong oras ang dating natin sa Manila?" He asked his driver in an annoyed tone.
They were on their way back to Manila from their outreach program in Cagayan where they stayed for three days. It had also been three days since they last saw each other. He was worried.
He kept tabs on her but he had other responsibilities to attend to. Fortunately, Lisa was there to call the former vice president for him. His secretary was ringing her non-stop since they departed for the outreach.
"Mga isang oras nalang, Sir." The driver replied — glancing at the mirror.
It was obvious that the president was nervous. He had been tapping his hand on his knee impatiently. Everyone inside the car knew that he had been waiting to see the DSWD secretary. They had no idea what happened between the two but her name was all he could talk about when inside the car.
The president had been asking for her whereabouts and what she was doing for the last three days. Lisa had been very helpful with keeping him updated. He was even asking what Leni ate for lunch and dinner and who she was with.
What kept him on edge was the fact that Kit Belmonte was with Leni almost during her day. The congressman was even driving her home. He had no time to get angry but his heart wanted to burst every time.
What am I to her?
"You okay, sir?" Lisa asked, her hand reached out for his — taking it from the top of his knee.
His brows furrowed as he snatched his hand away. "Stop the car." He ordered which was immediately followed by the driver — no questions asked. "Get out." He calmly commanded Lisa.
She was startled. Her eyes were wide open as she was trying to process what he just said.
"GET OUT!" He snapped.
Lisa flinched and walked out of the car.
He watched her as the car moved away. He sighed — knowing that she was a wasted potential. Despite that, he did not feel guilty at all. He dialed one of his staff and asked for a replacement right away.
He instructed his driver to bring him directly at Leni's condo since they would arrive around 6pm. "Then, sunduin mo nalang ako bukas. I need some rest." He added before instructing his PSG's to come with the driver tomorrow.
After a few more minutes, they arrived at the building. There were few caution signs since the drainage system was being fixed since he asked them to. He was dropped at the entrance by his driver who did not ask about who he was going to meet.
Not long after he was left at the entrance, a familiar car passed by. Leni stepped out of the passenger's seat before Kit could open it for her.
"Leni." Their eyes met but she avoided his gaze quickly.
"Thank you ulit, Kit." She said and gave the congressman a tap on his shoulder.
It was a small gesture but Bongbong could feel steam coming out of his ears. Kit refused to leave but Leni told him that she was going to be okay. The congressman had no choice but to drive away.
"Anong ginagawa mo rito?" She said as she passed by him — still avoiding his eyes.
He followed her. "Leni, kausapin mo naman ako. What happened?"
She stopped and looked at him — her eyes were welling. "You got what you wanted. Now, leave me alone." She said and turned away from him again.
They tried to not get any attention but there were people already taking pictures and videos of them arguing. Thankfully, when they rode the elevator, no one was there.
"What are you saying?" He asked and grabbed her wrist. "I mean it when I say 'I love you'."
She punched his chest softly and began sobbing. "You did not even call me for days and now you're saying that you love me?"
"I-" He paused when the elevator opened.
He continued following her. "I asked Lisa to —" He realized what happened. His eyes went to the ground. "I asked my secretary to call you."
She also stopped when she felt that he was not following her. "Liar. I did not receive any calls from you or from anyone in your office!"
"Leni, listen." He held her arms and made her look into his eyes. "She held my hand on our way here. So, I fired her and left her somewhere I was not sure of. You can ask my driver."
"Wait." Her brows crossed. "You left a woman alone somewhere you did not know?"
"A-yeah?" He was confused.
"Call your PSGs and drive her home!" She ordered and walked away from him.
"Y-yes, boss." He replied and fished his phone from his pocket using his trembling hand to dial the head of his security to order them exactly as he was told.
After that he continued to follow her to her unit. She did not lock her door so he was able to enter — finding her seated on the couch while removing her coat.
"Sorry, mahal." He apologized sincerely and sat beside her. He hugged her sidewards and leaned his head closer to the nook of her neck.
She sighed before answering. "Change your clothes. I bought you some inside the cabinet in the bedroom. Try them on."
He smiled and kissed her cheek. "Okay!"
He stood from the couch excitedly and marched towards the bedroom like a kid. He found their shorts and t-shirts for him. Finally, he was able to get rid of his long sleeves and wear something comfortable.
When he left the bedroom, he found Leni at the kitchen preparing ingredients for cooking. He did not approach her immediately. Instead, he watched her from afar — his eyes were welling up.
This is the life that I want.
