The doctor takes a deep breath and looks away from us. Not a good sign. He sets his clipboard aside and begins to rub the back of him neck. Again. . . not a good sign. "I'm sorry." he looks at Beck finally. "The metal lodged into her main jugular artery, causing her to lose more than 75% of her blood. We tried to give her a blood transfusion, but her body was just too weak." he stands and I can feel Beck crying beside me. "I'm sorry, son, but she didn't make it." he places his hand on Beck's shoulder then begins to walk off.

Beck  stands and calls after him. "Can we at least see her?" his voice is rough. The doctor hesitates and looks back and forth between us."Please? It'll only take a minute. She was my mother, for God's sake!" he cries.

"Fine, fine." the doctor puts his hands up. "But you won't like what you see." We nod and follow him to her room. I decide to wait outside and let Beck see his mother by himself. He'd want some space with her anyways. I wait in the hallway for about thirty minutes before I decide we need to leave.

"Beck"I look in the room. He's sitting in the corner of the room rocking himself and staring at the bloody sheet covering half of his mother's body. I look away as I feel the bile rising in my throat. I walkover to Beck and place a hand on his shoulder. "Beck, c'mon. We need to leave." I say gently to him. He says nothing and walks outwith me after one last look at his mother. I see a single tear rundown his face, and my heart breaks for him. The woman that's been there for him his entire life just died. She was there for him when his abusive father beat them both. She was the one who forced him out of the house. She was the one who helped him when he was sick, or with his homework. When he was scared, terrified of the monsters in his closet at night, she was always there to scare them away. She was everything to him when he needed her.

And now she's gone.
