"Do you cook?"
"No. I mean yes, I can cook, but I haven't since a very long time. I'm too busy to do that anymore."
"Yeah, I can relate to that. Although, you do realize it's not healthy living on takeouts and packaged food, right? Anyways, I suppose that gives you time for the cleaning chores and other stuff?"
"Oh no, I have a caretaker for that. I do depend on takeouts but most of the times, I just eat what our caretaker cooks," Jeongguk answers while cutting a smaller piece of his steak.
He hadn't had a chance to put anything in his mouth, since he's been answering questions that he's sure he was supposed to ask the girl, Veronica, and not the other way around.
"Hmm... That's smart," she nods. "I'm sorry if I've already asked this, but mind telling me again where do you live ?" She asks grimacing and quickly takes a bite of her food.
"The Trinity tower on Camsville street. I occupy the penthouse."
"Good Lord! The rent must be sky high!"
"Wouldn't know, I bought it rather than renting," Jeongguk replies while separating the carrots and lettuce from his salad.
It's true, the rent would've hurt his account every month, so he saved up ever since he started working and bought the place. He's not sure why though, since he has never done there anything, except for sleep.
She looks up from her plate and stares at Jeongguk amused. "I see..." She nods in admiration, before taking another mouthful of food.
There's rustling of paper and just before Jeongguk brings the fork to his mouth, the girl has something more to say.
"I actually did some digging into your background before agreeing to meet, I'm sure you understand," she says not meeting his eyes.
And Jeongguk understands, because he's sure Mr. Kang did the same with her, before setting them up.
He nods his head in approval, and urges her to continue.
"It's impressive- your growth, I mean."
"Well, thank you," he quickly fits in.
"How many shares do you hold currently? I'm assuming it wouldn't be much considering your recent promotion, but still," she is curious and Jeongguk can see because they're looking at each other. He frowns.
Realizing how bad it sounds, she quickly adds, "Of course, only if you don't mind telling me! I'd just like to know how you manage your financial matters, that's all."
"Oh! Umm... yeah! It's okay." He agrees understanding why she'd ask that - because if all goes well tonight, that's something she should be aware of. "About 50k, that should be around what...10 percent of the total?"
"Hmmm!" She smiles nodding again. "That's ... Nice!"
It's a quiet corner they're sitting in, away from the windows and dimly lit with the fancy mini-chandelier hanging above them. The lo-fi music is barely audible, all together making the place feel like a business meeting.
It feels like one, by the way she's throwing one or another question at Jeongguk. He feels like he's being interviewed and it's a tad bit embarrassing how he's sitting in his chair, his food untouched while his date for the night sits in hers, with a bunch of papers in one hand and cutlery in another.
Any other day Jeongguk would have been impressed and appreciated her for the multitasking, but this is no place for that. It's a simple dinner, and it's common courtesy to not make the other feel anything less.
