By the time it was 4 am I decided it was time for me to sleep. I opened the sliding door that lead into my bedroom. It's toasty in here. Taking off my shoes and pants, I climb into bed. Wait, I almost forgot to take off my necklace. I never sleep with my pocket watch on, it's to precious for me to break. Lying back into the covers, I realized just how tired I really am. Quickly, my eyes are closed and I'm fast asleep.
-----
The ground began to rumble. There was a set of muffled voices, a man and a woman. Then, the voices stopped and it fell silent. All that could be heard was the crying of an infant. The voices came back, still as inaudible before. The picture of them was blurry but, she could tell they were holding on to each other tightly. The dream seemed to be in act of panic. Nothing could be understood from what was happening. A loud thunder happened, and then it all went black.
------
I wake up panting. "What the hell was that?" I asked myself. I turn to my pocket watch to see what time it is. 10 am, I must have slept in. Thank goodness we're on Christmas break. Back to my dream, what was that? Where was that? What the hell was gong on? I wanted answers, but I knew I wouldn't find any soon. I decided it would be best to let it drop, for now.
Shuffling out of bed, I reach for my slippers. The floor is cold despite the fact the sun is shining through my blinds. I guess I should go down for breakfast or is it lunch? Brunch maybe? Anyways, I was hungry.
I took a step on the stairs, trying my best not to fall down them. I pass my cat, Dollie, along the way. She meowed as I stooped down to pet her. This cat has been with me for a while. She's my best friend. Yes, my best friend is my cat. I remembered I was hungry so I continued on. I made it to the kitchen in one piece. Making toast was the first, and only option, I had for food. I'm not going to go in detail about making toast because we all know how exciting that is.
I will tell you that I put a chocolate spread on my toast instead of butter.
I couldn't get that dream out of my head. Who were those people? And what was even happening? I knew it was probably something I shouldn't worry so much about, but I couldn't help but think it was more than just a dream.

My mother called for me. She came rushing down the stairs in her satin night gown. Her hair in kinky mess. Despite being adopted, my mother and I both have terrible bed head.  She had milky skin in contrast to my caramel. Her eyes were emerald green and her lips were always a peachy pink color. My adoptive mother was drop-dead beautiful.

"What is it, Mom?" I asked. "Oh, I thought you were still upstairs.", She confessed. "Well I just wanted your help this morning. We have to set up the Christmas tree and place all the decorations around the house. There is a lot of work to be done around here to make this place more festive. Next we have to plan your 16th birthday party. I know you told me you don't want a Sweet 16, but maybe you'll consider having a party?", My mother suggested. "Will there be cake?", I boomed. My mother sighed and nodded her head a wary yes. "There will be plenty of cake, now while I get ready think of a guest list." With no hesitation she left the kitchen. I was alone again. There was no possible way I can make a guess list, as I have no friends. I mean there is my neighbor, Jessa, but we don't talk much. I can always invite my cat.

While my  mother was a great distraction from my previous thoughts, they still managed to find their way back into my mind. What was that dream?
