I noticed that Heather wasn't at the food court for breakfast. I looked around.
"Caelan?" Samjhana stared at me. She seemed to have noticed my confusion.
"Are you looking for Heather?" Aria teased.
"No I'm not."
Burning. Was there a fire? I felt myself burning. I could feel the warmth radiating from my cheeks. They all raised their eyebrows in my direction.
I guess my flushed cheeks confirmed their suspicions.
"Caelan, it's obvious when you're lying~"  Luke cooed, as if he were calling to a baby.
"Luke." I gritted my teeth.
"Now Caela, don't act so tough, remember you're just our little baby," Samjhana laughed.
"I'm not a baby and- HEY I thought you guys said you'd stop calling me by that stupid name." I exclaimed. There are times when my three childhood friends I've known my whole life can honestly piss me off. That's mainly most of the time. Whenever I'm upset or angry, my frustration only riles them further, feeding them fuel to wind me up.
Samjhana and Luke laughed, their chuckles being released in harmonies. With Samjhana's laugh sounding like a series of untuned piano notes and Luke's sounding like an old engine turning over, a choir comparable to 3 year olds was made.
"Caelan, why don't you buy her breakfast then? Or something to fill her up," Aria shrugged, pointing to a vending machine.
"I told you, I wasn't looking for- wait. That's a good idea.." I muttered. I could buy Heather something as an act of compassion, and it wouldn't be suspicious because she skipped breakfast. The three of them grinned.
"Heather likes strawberry milk. I'll buy her some." I stood up to leave, before Aria pulled me back down.
"Caela. We want to know about how the story."
I clenched my jaw. Why are these buffoons wasting my time right now?
"What story?"
They looked at eachother.
Samjhana grinned. "The story of how you grew to like her of course!"
They waited eagerly for my response, like puppies waiting for food. I sighed.
"There isn't a story. I grew to like her. She's bold and daring. Smart and hard working. She doesn't care about my status or my looks, she doesn't care about me at all. She's intriguing, she lures me in."
They swallowed up my reply, bewitched by every word.
"Ooo," Luke cooed (again).
"Who knew our baby would be such a romantic?" Aria sniffed, wiping her fake tears.
"You're so grown up now Caela," Samjhana sighed, as though she was watching her own son grow up. "Go get your girl."
"Thanks guys-"
"Did you not hear us? GO GET YOUR GIRL."
I rushed to the vending machine.
